Only thing I like about this game was the music. The rest of it was just bad.

I enjoyed this game quite a bit. I don't think the skill system worked very well though, in a game where you are always able to be attacked in a fast paced manner by other players, time based skillups don't work very well. In EvE it worked for some reason, but in this it just doesn't feel right. Plus the combat felt a little clunky. It had quite a few features in place that were actually really cool though, too bad the population died off quite a bit or I might have given it another spin.

The combat was the #1 killer for me as it did feel clunky. I also liked the world design of the game too. It felt open to where you could just go out and explore.

Combat is one of those personal things, I loved it. In fact I loved everything about the game except the cash shop.

The memories I have of my 15 month jianghu in Ming era China are the most fond of all my mmorpg memories. I recommend anyone who is bored with the mmorpg industry to give Wushu a shot, it saved the genre for me.

I really loved Age of Wushu for a lot of reasons, but I had to stop playing it largely for the reasons you stated.  I disliked the combat overall and the lack of a proper role system.  One can argue that there were classes that were more defensive or healers, but I still found it lacking and another example of making every role into a dps class.

Ultimately I couldn't go back for two major reasons.  First was the time based progression, and second was the blatant P2W implementation akin, or even worse than games like Archeage.  I knew soon as they decided to sell new powerful sets of abilities, that the game would not make it.  I also do not believe the passive experience system works well in any game, including Eve.  Its the biggest reason it will never be anything but a "niche" game.

Its really a shame though, because I really enjoyed the world.  It felt very alive, looked nice and the music was great.  I loved the crime system and nighly raids on enemy school, the guild cities and the system of fighting opposing guilds, and the guild alliance system.  Many games could learn A LOT from Age of Wushu, both from the good and the bad.

This game was supposed to get a CryEngine update. What happened?

this game had issues but none of them are the ones your pointing out. 1) the game did have healers emei and tanks wudang . I'm assuming you never did a raid or even a dungeon if you didn't know that lol. 2) the strongest skillsets were the school specific sets or were ingame special sets(ancient tai chi fist for example). Your reasons for not playing this game are incredibly terrible reasons due to them both being untrue. The reason this game sucked hard was that there was literally very little to do in the game and it was infested by bots. No rich person ingame was rich from item malling they were rich from buying a shit ton of gold.

I'm assuming you never read my post in its entirety, or you'd know mentioned the tank and healer class.  That little part about "classes that were more defensive or healers."  You are talking about two classes that could still be used aggressively, while everyone else was basically one form or another of dps.  Its bad.  You can argue that the p2w sets weren't as powerful if you want, but when they first came out, they were very common in arenas and open world PvP.

If you really want to get into the meat and potatos of why combat was horrible, group pvp usually came down to who had the the most people with very particular sets with AE, ie spin 2 win.  The classes were wonderful in 1v1 and some small engagements, but a complete mess in large scale combat.  The fact that they didn't have the foresight to add diminishing returns to stun, control loss, or movement impairment or decrease the AE damage on abilities like that in mass PvP, showed that they were out of touch with how things actually worked in-game.

Furthermore, having stuff to do was never a problem I ran into.  I ran hard level dungeons, hunted bounties, engaged in guild and school raids nightly, and fought over guild bases every weekend.  Ultimately, its mostly subjective, but I just didn't like the fact that a new player had to basically wait to level up because you only gained a certain amount of exp every day and you basically had to leave your character online in the right places to accelerate the rate your xp was applied to your abilities.  All time locked crap that I feel has no place in an MMORPG.  Its an artificial restriction.
