The whole NoFlyGate made me think about how Blizzard, but also the others devs, deals with mounts: basically it's a free buff with zero downside that make you move faster, way faster. Well the only downside (at least in WoW) is a 1.5 sec casting time, oh my!
I understand why: it's fun and fast and instant satisfaction for players but... it's also totally not realist and as I know lots of you are into more sandboxy games, I was wondering if a complex mounting system already exist somewhere?
I mean something that could including one or all of the following mechanisms:
_ Only one mount at a time. You don't have a gazillon dragons in your magical bag, but only the last mount that you used. (some of the others could be in a stable though).
_ A feeding system: your horse eat the grass and could enjoy some carrots, but a dire wolf need you to feed him with raw meat. And a flying dragon would require LOTS of fresh sheep if you want to keep him friendly! Basic rule should be: "glorious" mount == more update needed.
_ Stamina, kinda like in Red Dead Redemption where your mount can go fast but only for a short amount of time, then need to rest.
_ No summoning: your mount is where you last use it. You can call it but it may take time to reach you etc.
_ Mount could be injured, healed and killed in battle.
etc. etc.
Who would like a game with this kind of stuff? I know I would!

You can also breed mounts for their birth traits and breed out defects and stuff.
