Which classes are strong for PvE server ?

FlightFlight Member UncommonPosts: 6

Myself and my wife are going to play again for the first time in years. We have decided to play non-RvR (PvE - Co-op, Gaheris, I think ? Presuming Europe doesn't have a Co-op server and that it has ToA). We play very irregular and unreliable times. image

What would folk recommend as strong solo classes or a good duo, or a good pair of chars with one as a bot ? My friend says nothing is stronger than a Warden with a Bard but he hasnt played since pre Catacombs.

As an aside, does anyone know if the PvE server has the ability to create chars at lvl 20 once you have a 50 ?

Thanks

Before we left, I remember being able to take a trio of 79s in DF as well as many of the mid-high 70s critters in ToA with our Paladin/LW Champ/Shaman combo. The key for us was classes that could survive if they pulled aggro from the main tank and multiple forms of healing with the Pally and two-boxed shaman, although you could probably replace the shaman with a warden and get almost the same effect (lower buffs, better damage reduction with 8 sec. bubble). At the time, a LW champ did the most damage if able to use it's rear positional.

I've always been a firm believer in playing to the strength of a class. If I were returning, which is becoming an option, I'd find the best aggro-holding defensive tank, best high-HP damage dealer and the best buffer with heals and put them together.

You used to be able to create a 20 if you had a 50, I can't say that the ability is still there.

What classes are good depends on what expansions you have available.

For Solo: Vamp, Warlock, Animist, Enchanter,

    Duo/Bot: Animist/Bard Any caster really/Bard.

On the Co-Op you can play all the realms so I am sure there are great combos that will work that are not possible on the regular servers.

/level works on every server except for the Classic servers.

Vamps are PvE king! I have a vamp and they own so hard in PvE. Solo reds easily. A Vamp/bard combo is killer. Expcially when vamps get their CL abilitys and can self heal and get a shield.

Guild Wars - Rorick Aurlith E/Mo pumped up with the best armor and weapon, has all his skills, and runes. PvP King!

Dark Age of Camelot - Leaton 50 Vampiir - Lamorak - Guild: Magic and Mayhem!

One awesome combo that a couple of my friends and I played was Animist paired with a necro. You can chain pull blues to your hearts content. Do drains for power and give the power to the ani who throws up shrooms. We pulled consistantly in DF for hours raking in tons of exp and gold even with /level'd 20s.

Does your guild have a website yet? Find out how easy it is to get one.

Well, from the top of my head I would suggest a melee duo - probably shaman + warrior/hero/any tank class
All buffs, endu, minimum downtime (as endurance reg is much much faster then mana reg)

Other good PvE classes were already named...
    necro, vamp, warlock

Personally I would not advice you to pick a caster class. The downtime gets pretty annoying on higher levels, even with manareg (ofcourse this does not apply to Necromancers). Also a caster benefits a lot from the pietybuff - which you wont be able to get in combination with manareg (= no class that has both piety buff and manareg).

I would have to agree on the melee duo -- Cleric/Paladin for PvE.

Great buffs and good healing from cleric -- don't have the endo buff but you don't need it with the Paladin -- I use this for PvE and have absolutely no downtime. Isn't as fast as necro, but I can chain purps with ease.
