Why does any company make a video game  ?   lol ya to make money grow a brain.

They have already put EQ in maintenance mode with the announcement of them moving away from expansions. This new server with it costing extra is just a way for them to boost their margins for a short time. In a couple months the server(s) will be dead just as the last ones were. Then they will announce their DLC or whatever it they are calling it now for some more quick cash. By this time next year EQ1 will be bellyup all the while DBG will be laughing at the last minute fleecing they were able to pull off. Much like Turbine and AC2.

I realize that DGC proclaimed Ragefire a success, I'd really like to see how that was a success.  Count the unique IPs that have logged into Ragefire, see how many of those had logged into an DGC product and/or had All Access status in the past 3 months.  That might begin to show an accurate number of 'returnees and new players'.  My gut feeling says that most of the people playing on the new server were already active on one of the other servers, they just moved around -- DGC didn't get new revenue from this.  They aren't going to reveal how many accounts they processed an All Access charge to, so there's no point in wondering about that.  Accounts or Characters never quite give the entire picture, given the popularity of multi-boxing and creating alts.

I just wonder how they quantify 'a success'.

Edit to add:  I do feel for anyone logging into an otherwise dead game and encountering queue times.  Any returnees might wish to pop into their old characters to say 'hi' to old friends, who might have less of a life than they do.  Come, laugh at us!

Logic, my dear, merely enables one to be wrong with great authority.
