Since everyone is chipping in with their opinions I'd like to throw mine in and say i like the direction they are taking.  By changing their game play model they are trying to make the game accessible to a larger majority of the player base.  That's just being smart.  The mistake they made was by initially declaring it to be a OWPvP game and then changing their minds when they realized their ignorance.  Changing it around was sure to upset the hardcore PvP centric crowd but better to do it now than later when this already small niche crowd results in empty servers like the rest of the failed PvP MMORPG games released to date.

Everybody complaining about the grind.  I personally enjoyed the game and would rather play a game where you have to grind out your levels and be rewarded for it rather than play all of these generic wannabe mmo's that are coming out where you can be max level in 2 days and have max level gear.  Those games get so boring very quickily and you are given everything without having to work for it.  I am an old school  mmorpg player where you have to work for what you want.  I started playing mmo's when Everquest first came out and you were not given anything but a crappy sword, one bag and some rations.  You even had to make your own maps for each zone.  Today's generation of mmo players want everything given to them without the risk.  I personally would like it if old school mmorpg's like Everquest made a comeback where you had to work for your skills, gear, and weapons.  Okay rant done.

Reinforces my point that action combat in a MMORPG doesn't work long term. Flashy combat looks pretty the first few times, but in a time consuming MMO all that running around gets boring.

I had high hopes for this but now worried it's going to be a mess in its US release.

I need to hear more about crafting and trading.

/throws you a flame retardant suit

I'm with you partner.  These "so-called" new MMORPGs are MMORPGs in name only.  The FPS/MOBA crowd have taken over and it pisses them off to no end if it takes them more than two days to get to end game and start playing their FPS game.  God forbid they should be required to do a quest or follow a story line to get there.  All hell breaks lose!!!

Disapointed that they have just made things take longer instead of adding some challenge.

I was pretty psyched about Black Desert when I first heard about it over a year ago.  I figured, hey they originally shared a lot of similarities with ArcheAge, maybe they intend to improve what XLGames royally messed up with cash grabs.  Now it seems like not only have they retreated from their former position of having a very versatile fantasy sim world with large scale PvP, they are going full blown WoW mode and making it super easy and filling it with quest progression that hasn't been in style in over 5 years.

    Shame.  Another missed opportunity.

Ugh, sometimes I lose faith in Black Desert. Though I really want it to deliver where Archeage failed.

Generic questing I am fine with, but...

The worst things I took from this article is where we have to resort to grinding mobs for levels. No, that is torture. That isn't "Hardcore" or "putting in effort" that is time-wasting and quite frankly, a lesson in patience. I play a game to interact with players, perform feats for glory, and ENJOY myself.

If normal leveling and quests take you through the world that is enough for me.

And the PvP relying on health potions, I hope that was an exaggeration...

Now Playing: Bless / Summoners War
Looking forward to: Crowfall / Lost Ark / Black Desert Mobile

These days, if you're not 50 (or whatever cap is) in just a few days, you're considered a n00b.

I'm looking forward to this game and I support long / hard grinding. Part of the reason why games suck so bad these days is because there is no feeling of true reward via effort.

    Im with you.

Another MMO to flop in beta.

I wish I could say I am shocked...

I remember in Everquest on my wizard spending hours in Skyfire mountains killing flying sperms with teeth and then medding for like 12 minutes each full drain of my mana bar. That was grinding.

It has PvP? Count me out. PvP in MMO's died years ago, worst thing a company can do to an MMO...

DAUM uses the word casual every single sentence when they describe this game. a good journalist should explain the overall situation of the game. people, just forget this game. its not that what we thought it is. only because information is so sparce.

The purpose of the article is to preview  the RUSSIAN version of Black Desert and how it is being altered from the Korean version to suit its audience. It was intended to be only thus and not a review or comparison of the various versions of the game.

Additionally, the full game has yet to be presented in its full form to the Russian BDO community and the scope of the CBT was very limited for its first event.

the problem is that i bet most people dont even know that the korean version changed so much. it happened during a short amount of time. it goes a long way of mentioning how much it changed and how unsatisfied the players are with the korean version. lets see if some changes for the better happened for the russian beta...kind like that.

Not in a released state, still in Beta?Since when have we seen one Beta actually mean it is Beta? This IS the game you will see and play, without question.

Yes at one time, you had to play games for awhile to learn something, not the case anymore, you can simply watch Twitch streams now a days and see all you need to see. There is always going to be a little bit you can't quite grasp watching but not too much.Thing is by now we have seen it all before,a quality game engine churning out a nice world but that is NOT effort from the developer that is auto generation.

The combat animation movement system is brutally bad.Watch the Ranger class and tell me it doesn't look retarded, super lightning fast movement with identical firing animation on the multi attacks.Females in high heels ,the auto waypoint system is a terrible immersion breaker, last thing i want to see in a game world is a bunch of arrows pointing the direction. What adds to it is when in auto waypoint you see players running right through other players and stage coach's like there is zero immersion at all.

Most of the time i watch streamers are afk,i guess they really do get bored of Themepark games.Typical of lazy game design,i have not seen one moving door yet in the game.I do give them credit for at least having insides of buildings and some assets inside.

Quite possible players have graphics turned way down because i do not see many shadows and draw distance has looked bad.It seems like all the pets are using that same low lod white feather like texture,i see it also used on mounts like Horse tails and even in the player costumes. How much can one take when a player fires hut hut hut hut haaaaaa.

Ranger my usual fave class in games plays like Diablo or POE and that is not a good thing.

Never forget 3 mile Island and never trust a government official or company spokesman.

I don't get how the potion cooldown could be inexplicable. I've yet to play a Korean MMO that wasn't tuned for spamming consumables.

Looks like it's same as early days of Dekaron US. A grind fest!
  • silvaflame08silvaflame08 Member Posts: 2
I remember those days in EQ or EverCrack lol.  Especially when it would take you all day just to get 1 piece for your first epic weapon.  Now, most ppl don't even go after their epic weapons because there are other weapons better.  I wish mmorpg's would go back to being a grind and not like the mmo's or MOBA'S of today where in two weeks I can have every character slot filled with max level characters and max gear.

I have family and Im working.....gimme option/server for easy and fun pvp since i got no time for hard grinding and you got yourself a customer. I need games to relax and have fun not work hard for lvls/gears.....got enough of that at workplace. lol

This is a really bad write up but a person that know's nothing about the game to start.  Problem with someone coming to the game and making it a little outside of the tutorial then writing a column is that they have no clue.  Almost everything here was just bad.

I don't even know where to start...just don't go and write columns before you have a clue what you are talking about.  Come on Bill Murphy, you have always made sure your staff has a clue before writing...this is pathetic.
