New Player Help

meonthissitemeonthissite Member UncommonPosts: 917
Hi! Pretty much sold on this game from watching it progress online in the PC form. I've preordered it for Xbox and will definitely feel I'll get my moneys worth out of the title when it releases soon.

My concern however is that I don't know enough about it. I know that there are options to allow players to choose what type of class they want to be (in that they could be a healer thief if you wanted to be) but I'm really not sure what to choose.

You see I've always been interested in choices like these being able to choose from a complex system of skills makes for a better game but it can get confusing especially for new players. I'm not new to the MMO genre but I am new to this game.

So if any of you out there who are experienced with the PC version can lend a hand that would be awesome thanks in advance for your help I'll be checking this thread to see what is posted.

I am looking for a healer/bowman type, a tanky rogue type, and some ideas for spellcasters that are a bit unconventional if you have any.

Thanks again!

I only have played the Skyrim version and you can be whatever you want to be on that version. Some races has certain attributes that work better for a particular style.

You can play all of those things.  My suggestion to you is to go check out ESOheads character builder.  It allows you to get an idea as to what any character load out may look like at end game.  So, if you want a healer/archer, you can go there and check out all the skills and abilities and essentially build your class before you even create your character.  There are plenty of those types of builds, you just have to search for them.

For a Bow Healer I'd suggest a templar that uses bow exclusively. When not healing with you class line you could deal dps/immobliise/stun enemies.

Other options would be roll any class and alternate between bow and restoration staff.

To OP to get the most out of this game, do not go to build forums, my suggestion is that you will end up with hundreds of skill points, play and enjoy the game and experiment as you go, much much more satisfying, you can allways research meta builds at max level if that's your bag.

    rpg/mmorg history: Dun Darach>Bloodwych>Bards Tale 1-3>Eye of the beholder > Might and Magic 2,3,5 > FFVII> Baldur's Gate 1, 2 > Planescape Torment >Morrowind > WOW > oblivion > LOTR > Guild Wars (1900hrs elementalist) Vanguard. > GW2(1000 elementalist), Wildstar

Now playing GW2, AOW 3, ESO, LOTR, Elite D

I do not agree with this.

While it is true that you will end up with hundreds of skill points in the end, through level 50, you won't have many extra.  So unless you want to constantly respec your character or wait until you're half way through post 50 content to get enough skill points not to care, you will need to be careful how many points you throw around.

For example.  While I haven't reached level 50 (43 sorcerer/archer), I've still gone far enough to be able to tell you without a doubt that you won't have many extra skill points.  I have taken as many passives as my character can benefit from, I've only taken the skills that I wish to use end game (plus a few extra to help increase my class trees), one armor tree, one weapon tree, I'm not a werewolf or vampire, have almost no points in world trees, a few in legerdemain, fighters/mages almost none, and two professions.  I literally only have two skills that I've essentially banked, and that's for the skills that I want when I am finally able to get them.  Now, I can respec and probably grab 4-5 skillspoints from things that I had to take in order to progress those skill lines early one that I won't be using later.. but honestly, that's still not very much.

It never hurts to get an idea as to what a class may look like, at least in theory, before you go about creating a character, leveling it, then realizing that you chose the wrong class.  More information is not a bad thing. I'm not saying you are screwed if you choose the wrong skills, but having an idea as to where you want to go is just smart.  You don't want to be spending all your money on respecs.  You'll need it for bag space, bank space, and riding skill.

    You are wrong.

I have a V6 NB and have more skill point than I know what to do with. 4 crafting professions at max, 2 class skill lines and 2 weapon skill lines as well.

Getting all the skyshards from each zone, doing the dungeons ( all 3 ) for each zone, and doing all the quests which reward you with skill point leaves an excess of skill points.

If you just level up, and not do dungeons & collect skyshards then you probably wont have enough SP. By the time I am at V14 I will for sure have more than i need. I think you can get around 300 total skill points in the game. Which is more than enough to put them wherever you want.

Hey OP, it's easy for those of us who know the game inside out to tell you to just play and figure it out without googling specs and building what others have figured out but I won't tell you that.

Check out Deltia's gaming and look at some of the builds he has there with explicit videos that show you not just the build but how to use it. It used to be that he only had builds for max level characters but in the past few months he has gone back and updated them all with leveling builds that lead to those eventual end-game builds.

The two examples you have in your OP exists and even have names: the Bowplar (Tempar who uses bow and can heal) and the Sap tank (a tanky, self-healing Nightblade.)

Google those two and also head over to Deltia's:  http://deltiasgaming.com/
