Let me put this out there: loads of wild dinosaurs, riding them, pooping, eating it, farming with it, PVE and PVP servers, loads of crafting and progression. 70 players per server for now, with hundreds promised down the road to launch in 2016. Does this sound like a game you might want to try? If so, read on because ARK: Survival Evolved is quickly becoming my sleeper of 2015.

I had fun once, it was terrible.
Its really easy to see what this game offers, just go watch a Twitch stream from one of the popular streamers. Dont forget the popcorn.
Or you can just make up stuff in your head about how or why a game will be good/bad.

Enjoyed the review and looking forward to playing this but there's one line that really struck me, Bill.
"You have to pay your dues."
In no other entertainment service or product do we see such a thing as palatable or acceptable, so why do you feel that belongs in MMOs? And if it is acceptable for a customer to have to work to get to the fun part, shouldn't payment begin only when the fun part starts and not a moment before?
There isn't a "right" or "wrong" way to play, if you want to use a screwdriver to put nails into wood, have at it, simply don't complain when the guy next to you with the hammer is doing it much better and easier. - Allein
"Graphics are often supplied by Engines that (some) MMORPG's are built in" - Spuffyre
Could you imagine a first person shooter like Call of Duty forcing players to shine shoes and do push ups to fill up arbitrary progress bars for 2 weeks before you could start shooting people?
Yeah, that would be a disaster. But, in an MMO, its expected.
RPG to me is about character progression, in order to progress you have to start somewhere and there's a satisfaction that comes from starting with nothing and building a life for yourself in a game like this. Make no mistake grinding is a chore but from what I've seen the grind in this is more about progression than just busy work to keep you playing like a lot of MMORPGs. Each to their own though
More I see and read about this the more tempted I am to jump in, may have to wait for further optimisation as I don't have the best rig but I will be jumping in to this one for sure.
I had already been watching it a couple days on Steam so a review was sort of not needed for myself.
To me it looked boring, the same repeated leaves texture all over the ground and frame rates are apparently bad.I would say it is the over used foliage all over the place that is not needed.I have watched a few players that seem to have shadows turned right off to make it playable.
The building structures are just like H1z1 kind of those boring wooden logs/ sticks structures. It seems to me that first thing everyone wants to do is build a big fort then explore then return. After a very short while it looks like every player is bored.
I remember Reign of Kings was supposed this next great survival game, now nobody cares about it and jumping on the next bandwagon. They all look the same auto generated worlds with ugly crafting. Also some of the so called dinosaurs are fodder they don't much react at all to a player stabbing/poking or punching them,so the AI is lacking.
Originally before i started watching i thought a Dinosaur game would be cool, but nah it looks boring not enough game play.I am not even sure what i would want form a Dinosaur game,i think too many Jurassic park movies have ruined it for me.I think what every game is lacking is the ECO system, otherwise the worlds always look the same like they have been auto generated.
Never forget 3 mile Island and never trust a government official or company spokesman.

If someone is talking in general chat in a language you dont understand, chances are they're not talking to you. So chill out and stop bitching about it!
well lucky for us in Ark you dont have to worry about that. as i spawned in on a server 2 guys where attacking me as the spawn animation was still going lol once that wore off, not only did i beat them both to death with my fist ( because i just logged on ) i took all their stuff and had plenty of food, water, and spears for my next encounter.
that was my first 30 seconds into the game and i was hooked since.
when you die you drop all of your items but you keep your level and skills you have learned.
Player death by another player
Player death by group of players = "Griefing"
repeated death by (player/group)
When it should be....
Player death by another player = normal
Player death by group of players = normal
repeated death by (player/group) = Griefing
With that being said, Official servers aren't the best servers if you are just learning the game. I would recommend starting off and a empty server just to get the hang of the controls and learning the basic needs for survival first.
