If you have ever gone to Facebook (you don't even have to have a Facebook page) you have all the spyware you'll ever not want.

No need to really worry about Windows 10.

Windows 10 is really evil.  Back in December I D/L some anime (not hentai) pics and sent them to one drive cloud thing and got raided for CP.  I was not arrested or charged because after 3 hours they could not find anything related to that but said Microsoft had informed them I had questionable pictures of minors.  Not nice having DHS and other state and local swat showing up in the morning while getting ready for work waving ar15s or whatever they have in full tact gear with neighbors watching.  BTW they took all my computer stuff just to make sure and  I will never see it again.

8.1 was fine. You can set it to look just like Win 7. Even before then it took just a small download to get the desktop view.

    Ok now that was funny.

The illusion of privacy.  People like to feel as though their lives are private, be it data or otherwise.  They like to think their information is safe and untouched.   A total illusion.  If we really knew how the Government and misc agencies have already obtained every scrap of info about us, we would realize that MS Windows 10 is a joke in comparison.

To keep your info private, you would have to stop using credit cards, cancel your driving license, stop filling out a single form on the internet, never fill out any form in stores, public events, etc...hope nobody takes your picture from the billion amateur photographers out there with a cell phone, and so on and so on.  in short, you would have to move to a cave and hunt for food with a stick.

And even after all that, it would be tough by today's standards with today's technology to keep private.

So, go with the flow.  Stop worrying and enjoy Windows 10 and remember, I know everything about you, including the fact that you like to dress up as a cow and yell moo moo to your loved one.   :)

It's about consumerism - not about "big brother" spying on you because they want to know how many times you went to the bathroom.

Pretty much this.  We lost the information gathering fight before we even realized it was there.  Anything and everything you have that's connected to the internet in any way is going to collect information and then return it to the parent company.  Your television, your cable box, any online game you play, and especially your web browsers are doing this.  Obviously your smart phones and other "smart" connected devices are doing this.

I do draw the line at ads though.  If my television starts trying to pop ads at me, that sucker is getting disconnected and blocked from the internet immediately.  Ditto for other stuff too.  I am perfectly capable of killing the javascript necessary for advertising to work at my router if I need to.

That said, any Win 10 Spyware rumors probably come from version of Windows on PCs that were "free", if you allowed advertising on the edges and such.  Those products ended up being horrible failures, so I don't expect to see anything like that built into Windows 10.  I would expect Microsoft to collect information so they can send you emails or tailor search results to your tastes though.  If you actually use Bing.

Our program would install untracable spyware. And I mean it. No adware , antivirus or anything like that was able to detect this , and if it would, we would pay them to remove us from the list (this is how they make money)

This "profiler" would than gather data on each user. It could even read your emails.

But what we were interested in is user buying habits, what sites he surfs and what he has installed.

We would compose report : This IP is a women age 35 interested in flowers and gardening and is playing these games ...etc

Than  would sell this data to advertizing dealers , in order to do what is called "targeted advertizing"

We were making above 200 million dollars a year. Before the company was bought by bigger one.

So yes. This spyware story. Windows wanting piece of that cake.

    Credible.

what happens when said user's IP changes? :)

I find this very hard to believe. Even in the off chance that it's true, you could definitely take recourse against this assuming you're being truthful about what the pics actually are.

Browser Fingerprinting can come up too because people are creatures of habit. Most everyone has a preferred browser for certain activities - some use one for their whole kit and kaboodle.

Behind your IP address too is a MAC address on the hardware itself. That can be changed but you aren't supposed to do it.

Yea I'm aware of that stuff, I work in the IT field myself. I was just poking fun because you only listed IP which is really easy to change :p

I use the internet. So unless I completely disconnect or be able to write the highest encrypted security measure I am pretty sure somewhere on my pc I got some "spyware" regardless using firewalls/antvirus

I'm also a gamer and play alpha/beta games (often from researched gamecompany aka well known gamecompany's) but regardless I don't check every file I'll download just hoping when there is something fishy my antivirus would detect it.

I dunno, the thing i know for sure is that that windows from now on will be offered "as a Service". I am not aware of how this  model will work at least when it comes to operating systems.

It seems that Cortana will collect almost everything about us. I've installed windows 10 preview on a VMware Player but i did not try it myself though.

One thing it's for sure that you are not able to install new updates when you wish - if you wish. I will stick with earlier versions of windows until all those questions and policies are clarified from Dollarsoft.

    Cortana

I don't know why Linux users need to keep spreading misinformation.

"hey, I heard from "a friend" that windows 10 has spyware, subscription, virus, will kill babies...anyone know if that is true??!?!?!....."

-No, Windows 10 does NOT have a subscription or microtransactons. They have never mentioned that anywhere ever.

-No, Windows 10 does NOT require you to pay for updates or patches.

-No, Windows 10 does not have built in spyware, Cortana uses the Microsoft server, just like Siri uses Apple's servers. Don't use Cortana voice assistant if you don't want to. But this is no different from doing your search through Google.

-Yes, Linux on desktop is dead, and No, it wasn't caused by Microsoft. Get over it.

There may not be spyware per se, but the latest update sure had adware. They put a Windows 10 advertisment in my task bar and the only way to get rid of it is to undo the updated. Microsoft this is MY computer, not yours. Sneaking an ad, no matter how small, on my computer is a violation of trust. There may be something buried in the EULA allowing you to do that but considering how people pretty much have no choice, this is certainly an abuse of your power.

Are you seriously saying that Microsoft mentioning to people that there is an update available soon for Windows (for free) is adware? Are you kidding me?

The movie Minority Report did good research into the future and it's nearly here.

Dunno about adware but it certainly spam as there was no way to easily get rid of it....

You're really stretching the concept of adware here. Are you looking for a reason to be indignant, outraged, and offended?

They are offering a free upgrade to a new version for a limited time. This is no different than a company placing an update notification in your system tray letting you know there is an updated version of the product available.

If you don't want to see it then hide in the system tray icon box.

Except simply hiding the update only doesn't work as kb303558 is already installed.....you need to take a few steps to get rid of it and they gave you no options to say no thanks.

We're talking about two different things. I'm talking about hiding the icon which does work. You're talking about removing the KB article which I'm not talking about at all.

Oh so your okay with MS spamming you with stuff  or "ads" as long as you can visually hide it?

Admit it was crassly done and a way for them to try and, I want to use the word bully but that might be a little too strong, "persuade" you to switch to win10 especially as there's no "no thanks" option when right clicking.

I have this feeling that people that are troubled by it and won't upgrade aren't really a concern for them. Feel free to check out the green grass on the other side of the fence. You'll find it's been spray painted that color.

Actually my grass is 100% natural and I like it that way.

You keep defending poor ole innocent and defenseless M$ though.

Oh and spam doesn't have to be something that is repeated over and over over, it can be something that is unwanted with no easy way to get rid of.

Right click the icon and tell me where they added a no thanks option and I will agree it is not spam.  As long as I have to do something along these lines:

    1. Go to search
    2. Type cmd.exe
    3. Press Enter
    4. Type "powershell"
    5. Press Enter
    6. Copy and paste wusa /uninstall /kb:3035583
    7. Press Enter
    8. Wait a few minutes
    9. When prompted click Yes.
    10. Wait a few more minutes
    11. Restart your computer now or later.
    12. Upon restarting your icon will be gone.
    13. Done

    it is spam for me.

Alternately they could have made kb3035583 an "optional update", you know the ones you can decide to download or not via simply hiding the KB in the first place....
