Don't get what you're saying since Windows 10 is a free upgrade for almost everyone.
Only for the first year. Then you have to pay for it.
The un-upgradable gpu is definitely the weak link. Giving consumers the ability to easily supe them up would be a big selling point. exspecially if it's marketed right. These days you're pretty much dead in the water if you can't upgrade your GPU.
What are you thinking Valve?
I believe they were thinking that if they allowed any graphics card it will hamper performance because they'd have to be ready for all the different graphics cards out there.
I've had enough of the over hyped trash that's being coming out, games, technology, all of it. I bought my PS4 on launch day and I haven't turned it on in 6 months.
When all is said and done, more is always said than done.

They were thinking that if they did that too, then why would you buy v2 wehn it gets released?

Only if you didnt get the upgrade. Those that do get Win10 forever.
Valve already has distanced itself from Steam Machines. They will be making money off the SteamOS licenses they sell while the 3rd parties will be the ones taking the losses. Pretty underhanded to be honest. The chances of these being a success is very slim.

You can upgrade for free during that first year, and never have to pay for Win10. After that free period, if you want to upgrade, then you'll probably have to pay. The way you wrote that, some people may think you upgraded and a year later they force you to pay, which is not how it works.
It seems it's a move to encourage people to upgrade to the latest so they can show better numbers than the dismal ones they had with Win 8.
Made me smile! The i3-i5 CPU's are weaker or almost the same as my 6 years old i7 .
Imagine how frustrated will feel customers who will buy the console and figure it out that lots of games will work like shit on that console whereas the definition of console, is that all games should run smooth.
Reporter: What's behind Blizzard success, and how do you make your gamers happy? Blizzard Boss: Making gamers happy is not my concern, making money.. yes!

Video game abuse!!! Honestly, if you've got a PC that is smokin' then a console really is becoming less and less needed. However, it's nice to have a single platform, consistent performance, no tweaking of settings, etc., etc. Previously sharing was a big problem for me with PC games, but not things are either free or you can use steam family share. So that excuse is slowly going away too. Now it's just outfitting myself and my 4 kids with serious gaming rigs. Yes..... there is still the cost

I really like my PS4, for those reasons. I can just put the disc in, and the game runs, with visual settings that are good enough that I'm still impressed with the visuals. Plus, it's in my living room.
Regarding costs, I've been keeping an eye on AMD's APUs, and my next upgrade is going to cost me about $260, for a system that will run the latest games. Not on "Max", of course, but good enough. If you need a bunch of machines, and don't need them to be top of the line, then I'd take a serious look at those chips.

System requirements haven't changed much since XP. Most games (including GTA V) run OK on my 7 year old Core2 Q6600 setup with 4GB of ram. Not great, but good enough to play. Hardware is probably going to be the least of the issues that Steam Machines face. I expect the biggest problem is going to be people expecting all new PC games to work, when only the Linux games are going to work. There are a lot of games to be sure, but I think gamers are much more connected now than they used to be, so games that don't run on Steam Machines are going to be very noticed.
Already bought my Alienware Alpha I5 model. When talking about the raw power of the box it totally destroys the Ps4 and Xbox One. Though you still have to remember that this is a mini console and it will not be as powerful as someone who is building their own gaming pc but this Alpha has a nice punch to it. Loving mine every day and I'll never buy another Sony or Microsoft console ever again.

Yes but only 10-20% of them will run under linux, I believe even fewer if you want AAA games.

10euro wireless controller
10euro cable from PC to TV
Same thing.
Yea, Sony is really sweating now.
