Landmark: The Road Ahead Detailed

SBFordSBFord Former Associate EditorMember LegendaryPosts: 33,129

The latest Landmark Producer's Letter has been published on the official site that lays out the details about what players can expect to see in the days and weeks ahead.

In the past several months, the team prioritized bugs that needed immediate attention and has been spending the time since working through that list. At the top of the list are bugs that could potentially affect the development of EverQuest Next.

The letter goes on to say that some features that are lower priority in Landmark may have to wait to be addressed as development has shifted focus to EverQuest Next . Landmark players are assured, however, that this does not mean that development or attention is lacking:

We *absolutely* are! Essentially, as we develop tasks and systems that are in a state fit for Landmark, we will get them into the game with an update. We still want and need your feedback on what we’re making in order to make sure both Landmark and EverQuest Next are as amazing as we all want them to be. You can fully expect updates and hotfixes to Landmark as we continue with this development process; they are simply going to be on a less regular schedule than you guys have been accustomed to over the past year or so.

Lastly, the letter indicates that the Workshop videos will continue at an unspecified date in the future.

Read the entire letter on the Landmark site.

When they update Landmark, they essentially are updating EQNext.

I have little to no hope at all for EQN......The whole thing has pretty much been a cluster *&$^ from day 1.

The road ahead? LOL More like off a cliff into obscurity. If EQNext launches or not I don't think anything will save Landmark from it's fate.

Landmark is low priority game-wise.... it's all about EQN now. Landmark is a disappointment.

Not sure why a developer thought building a glorified version of Second Life was a good idea.

smaller team, probably lower budget, the screenshot looks like something out of a World of Warcraft. yea i am easily losing interest.

They should open Landmark for everyone. It's so limited now with just founders. The place is really empty. My EU guild also has stopped playing and is waiting for EQN.

You know when you play too much MMO's when your partners pants have become a rare drop.

At this point they need to take a step back from the voxel mania that is Landmark, and focus on making one game, but bring crafting aspects of landmark, but only have certain areas that are voxel sandbox for players to add their part to the world. Pre EQ Next, getting some talented ideas done in Landmark I agree, but it's past that now, drop LandMark make it part of EQ Next.

I'm quite sure every single development resource at Daybreak that can possibly be spared is currently engaged in getting EQN ready for "paid Early Access" as fast as possible. They will deny it, of course, but the good 'ole days of "it's ready when it's ready" are gone. There's no endless revenue stream from the Sony parent anymore...

Landmark is nothing like minecraft. no monsters attack ur house. and monsters dont really go after u either, u need find them:/

Landmark need more monsters and they need be able to siege ur house. and more weapons/armors. need hardcore servers, permadeath. that would be actually more interesting. and combat need be more smooth.

whole building house is pointless when u cant use it for pve/pvp.
sure its nice and fun build some think first but its gets fast boring.

The problem was there was no endless revenue stream from the Sony Parent. Daybreak needs to make sure they have a revenue stream to even have a chance at putting out EQ Next.

The problem i have is that i have been a very long time user/supporter of SOE and they NEVER worry about bug fixing. So to believe now in an age where they spend LESS on support and feedback,i find it nearly impossible to believe them.

The truth to me is they had not put much effort into the game in contrast to what they have been telling us.Instead they have been utilizing man power to try and turn over some quick cash grabs.

The truth is in the statement..."priority in Landmark may have to wait to be addressed as development has shifted focus to EverQuest Next " so where has the focus been up to now?Obviously NOT on EQNext.

When i see a word like "priority" it really tells me how badly the TEAM is setup. It sounds like instead of teams working on specific aspects of the game, they instead just shift people around from game to game and area to area.No wonder they always have more bugs and glitches than any other developer i have encountered over the last 20 years.

It did take me a long time to realize but this SOE/DB operation is  really a badly run business, that is why it came down to them having to sellout to DB.IMO Landmark has been worked on for quite some time now and i just don't see the production value,it is like a very small group of people have been working on it,like a very small Indie developer.
