I've been done with pre-ordering and early access and all that since the ArcheAge $150 thing. That's a lie. Actually, I did pre-order GTA V and The Witcher 3. But that's it. I'm done.
I won't even pre-order FO 4 or Elder Scrolls VI. I don't trust anymore.
ArcheAge convinced me that PreOrder/purchase is only an advanatage to cash-grabbing game companies. For a short period of time I thought pre-ordering would allow the company to properly prepare for launch. ArcheAge cured me of that misconception!! I'm sure it could have been worse but Trion went out of their way to screw it up. Of course in Trion's case they continue to screw it up now almost 9 months later, so they may not be the best example.
At $60 a game, I'm better off waiting for the game to come out and see the reviews and YouTube videos showing game play before making the decision. It's the behavior of the AAA industry with multiple pre-ordering bonuses (I'm looking at YOU Watch_Dogs) that is pushing me away from video gaming itself.
In the last two.months ive put.money into World of Warships founder Armored Warfare founder program and i just slapped down full price preorder on.Arkham Knight. Nah man i.gots no issues with preordering and pre paying for.early.access

Originally posted by MisterZebub Pre-orders used to mean something back when you had the real possibility of limited physical game units in a confined geographic area. Now during the days of the digital content delivery revolution there is absolutely no reason for anyone to worry about not being able to find a game copy come launch day. At least unless an artificial scarcity is created by the game makers or publishers themselves. These days a game pre-order is nothing more than a marketing gimmick no different then selling a separate collectors edition copy with a few extra bells and whistles. Well except most pre-orders don't offer much if anything to the end consumer for buying the game before launch.
This pretty much reflects how I feel about pre-orders nowadays. The only exception I'd make for a pre-order would be limited edition swag for a game that I already planned on purchasing once the game was finished (e.g. Collector's Edition statues, etc.).
The fact that more game companies are releasing "Deluxe Edition" and "Collector's Edition" packs at a considerably higher price with practically nothing to show for it, I'm skeptical about the direction even THAT sort of packaging is going.
