Meridian 59 is considered one of the "old guard" 3D MMOs that still exists on the market today. Rob Lashley took some time to find out more about the Open Meridian Project with input from several members of the team.

This game is what made me hooked  on MMO's. I played this until Everquest was released.

What an awesome game at that time, was nothing else even like it!

I am so good, I backstabbed your face!

I'm confused I guess how servers work. If it's open source I could for example, write my own quests for the game to be added in? I've always had an interest in writing (currently working on a novel), and have always wanted to try my hand at writing quests for a game, but never seem to find a way or the chance to do so.

I wonder if I can do this in this game, and if so, how exactly, or do I need to be experienced in some complicated form of coding?

I really liked the game as it was sort of my first MMORPG. I say "sort of" because I was unknown with the term MMORPG back then.

Yet the game didn't let me fall in love with the genre, that love-connection was felt when I started playing SWG still in someway's closer to UO and Meridian then everything else after WoW. At that point I thought and hoped this would be the direction MMORPG's would be heading....boy was a wrong....But glad this genre still turned out great for allot of other gamers.

As for M59 I don't think I could go back to it. Do hope like always the Open Meridian Project does well.

I would love to see a remake in a new engine.

I was in the original alpha, it was amazing! Things have changed so much. That being said I find the only MMO I have any interest in playing today being another of the original old games in the form of Project:1999.

I remember when I was kid I asked to everybody if they could help me to pay for the game because I didn't have a credit card ahahahah

Yes, you could write your own quests and we would either help you code them, code them ourselves, or just let the quest sit until someone else codes it depending on priority and such. We run the project like any other FOSS project. Anyone can come help in any capacity.
