How about some talk about actual gameplay?

I'm getting real sick and tired of

"OMG SOE SUCKS"

"OMG Smedley is gay"

Etc etc threads.

Can't we actually talk about gameplay for once?

Well what profession do you play?

Pre CU I mainly played a dancer/tailor with a little combat mixed in from time to time.  Same with the CU.  NGE I mainly played a spy.

So what part of the game do you want to discuss?

Well in my time in SWG i player every profession to be played! Most of them was during the hologrind but oh well.

My final professions because the NGE we're:

    MBH/MRM/CM

Jedi i dropped all my skills and went MD for support of my mates.

Well imho SWG in it's NGE incarnation is still in alpha. However to be fair they are in fact improving albeit in a slow pace. The question is can they improve fast enough so they'll at least be in beta when the new crop of mmorpgs hit the shelves...

Omg rofl.  The hologrind.  Now that was a trip wasn't it? I didn't even do my holo professions because the first one said "Master Merchant." I was like NO WAY!"  I was four boxes away from master tailor and there was no way I was dropping.

I would have LOVED to get master merchant. I'd have it done in a couple of days with my guilds help. My first one was Master Bounty Hunter. I almost cried. I've Mastered every profession in the game except politican, and the Investiagion line of BH was the WORST.

I just reopened my account. The game is actually playable now, though obviously changes will continue to creep in.

I love Star Wars and I'm actually enjoying the quests on Mustafar. Thankfully 2 of my old guildies are still around.

Is this the game it once was? No. Will it ever be again? Probably not.

Even in the "working" stage that this game is, I would rather swing a lightsaber and force choke enemies than use a skeleton with a mace to hit a bat.

    That's why there are choices.

    See you on Mustafar . . .

    Yeah I got a question.

I read something on the discussion boards last night saying that maintenance was turned back on.  Is this true or is it just another one of SOE's bugs?

My structures that are out in the wild still have the same amount of maint I put in them.  However, if you're in a city you are still charged tax and if you lift up your structure you lose a certain amount of creds.  It could just be that or it could be bugged for some image

Wasn't maintenance turned off for Katrina victims? They probably enabled it again since it's been a while.

I still glance over the forums there for some reason, and it seems that it's a bug affecting some people (and some people claim to have had the bug for a while, pre-NGE even.)

That's an insult to gay people.  Don't be so mean to the homosexual population, man.

    Sure: it sucks.

No more interaction with the community (the only things you need assistance are a few quests on Mustafar (maybe 1 or 2) and the space mastery missions). You can solo everything. I can go down to the bottom of DWB with my Jedi.

Talking of DWB - it used to be a tough dungeon, I rememberwhen we went down like once every day. Now it is a joke.

Advancing in a profession is a pain in the @ass - even grinding was better. Solo groups had quite a hot discussion going on every time (at least for me), in the CU grinding was group-based, and we had great-great fun. Now - if you reach the end of the Legacy quests (lvl30 or so), you are stuck with 3 or 4 repeatable quests, and the half of these are on Mustafar, which you cannot take.

Servers are bloody empty. A few vets wandering around, but mostly 12-year-old kids, who stops me at starports and asks for my robe and lightsaber.

This is the actual gameplay. Pretty sad.

i cant speak for everyone, but personally i dont like gameplay at all .... i think it sucks ...

i still contend SWG is stuck somehwere inbetween a FPS, and a RPG... but the thing is ... its sub-par within both genres....

the targeting is too childish for me, too simplistic ...

FROM a FPS perspective, the targeting sucks ... feels very archaic, very stumpy ... not fluid and advanced like youd see with a modern FPS ... no animations  ... strafing sucks ...

the line of sight, or path targeting is not on the dot,  too unrealistic, when the NGE first came out NPC's were shooting through walls ....

theres no indication when you have an enemy in your crosshairs, like your crosshair lighting a different color .. or a word appearing ..which just makes it feel very numb, too simple ... very ..clumsy ... very .. OLD ...archaic being the best word ...i feel like im playing an FPS game from the mid 90's

its why i prefered the traditional MMORPG controls a LOT more ..

but aside from that crafting was REALLY dumbed down, and SWG had some of the best crafting in the MMORPG market before they destroyed it and dumbed it down ... ill admit the economy had problems and needed balancing ... but they shouldnt have destroyed crafting to achieve the balancing .. it could have been done within the current system, with a little planning ...

last but not least the strategy in combat, particularly one vs one PVP .. ill admit the FPS style does offer some new quick reflex, twitcher type of strategy in GROUP PVP, and if strafing+targeting is ever made fluid in the game it will be better .. within group PVP, but ... single one vs one PVP sucks bad now .... gone are the days of MIN/MAX planning and by that i mean counting %'s and using the perfect combination of foods and buffs, and using the perfect combinations of weapons and armor and planning your templates .... it just seems the game isnt as complex on the planning and strategy side as it was ...

i agree with static professions ... let me get that out of the way .. BUT ... with the tearing down of class mobility ... you have to ADD complexity elswhere to appease the large % of adult ... and mature, intelligent younger folk who play the game .. afterall starwars fans have always been of a smarter breed when it comes to stragety ... unlike star trek which would enjoy mostly crafting and the text intellectual pursuits within the game .. starwars fans on the average are in the half-way zone .. where they are intelligent folk and like complexity, but want that complexity WITHIN THE COMBAT SYSTEM ... they want a hybrid of action-thinking .. not pure thinking .. and not pure tweaker action ....a combination of the two ....

afterall the movies ARE sci fi, but a sci fi WAR, where as star trek was mostly diplomacy, small skirmishes and about science/exoploration heh ... scuse the tangeant

thats my critique on the current state of SWG
