Returning Player : Should I keep playing?

KardiamondKardiamond Member UncommonPosts: 52

Hi All!

I just returned to TESO, and I'm wondering if it's worth it for me.

- I'm a Pvp focused player.

- I'm not a fan of questing.

I played at release for like a month. I got bored of questing at around level 40, so I tried PvP (I usually rush PvE, then go full PvP). I was so disappointed, that I couldn't keep playing.

I joined the pvp zone, ran around for like 1 hours and didn't fight once. Happened 2 days in a row, finally got into a fight. Laggy as hell. Died during the lag.

That was my PvP experience.

Right now I started over a Character, and I'm level 11. I don't recall leveling being so slow . Took me 4-5 days to get to level 11. I'm not sure it worth leveling for so long only to be disappointed again by PvP.

How is PvP? Is it a zerg fest? Can you roam a bit and get small group fight?

Is it laggy? Sometime in PvE I get lag spikes, and it's not my internet.

Do you guys have any tips to level faster? Should I grind mob? I remember having a AoE Staff caster the first time I played, and grinding to level faster.

Thank you!

There is no sub, so why not just play as long as you're having fun and stop when your bored.

Great game bad support. Think it is worth it but today they did a patch and now crashing every time you open bank or put mouse over recipes. No idea how this got past test server for PC. Just typical for this company, they make more problems instead of fixing all the bugs game has.

Because my curse is that I don't really like leveling (well some games I do, but not this one) but I LOVE PvP.

Sadly, PvP at low level is usually not really fun. Even if they adjust your stats.

So to know if I like a game, I usually have to reach level cap.

Re pvp, you have to join an active pvp guild, roaming the map alone or lfg in cyrodiil can be a frustrating experience - the issue bring guilds are coordinating on vent do less likely to watch chat.

Re pve, that's a tricky one, eso has amazing questing, it's massive and well acted, but of you don't like pve that's a big chunk of the game. Perhaps you could rotate between aoe farming mobs to gain xp and then switch to exploration and dungeons for shards - with the motivation being to give you the full set of skills for pvp. same applies for gathering and crafting, I aimed for and got max level in all professions just as I hit 14, then crafted 3 full sets, 1 at champ level.

Best tip I can give is repair nothing, either use gear rewards/drops to level crafting or sell and accumulate gold. Makes drops interesting and you should end up with 200k plus gold by max level.

Now playing GW2, AOW 3, ESO, LOTR, Elite D

If you actually want to PVP, first, download Teamspeak then go to the Blackwater non-vet campaign.

Advertise in zone that you're looking for a group that is using TS - all of the good guilds use it and will be happy to include non-members if they use voice -- especially at slower times of the day or night. A handful will use Raidcall or Mumble or Ventrilo but not many. DL those clients too ahead of time if you want so you're ready.

Run around for a day or two to get to know people in there and join a PVP guild once you've gotten to know a few.

If you're low level you can still contribute: make sure you have 20 or so level 50 soul gems. Rezzing group mates will get you noticed in a good way. Buy the unfilled ones and ask your group for hints on how to fill them up. Stock up on fire ballistas and trebuchets and keep wall repair kits so you can at least do counter-siege and help repair walls. if you go there with a healing staff you'll still contribute as a healer and groups will be glad to have you.

Once you get to higher levels run as you like.... DPS, tank or healer but early on your best chance to be wanted is as a healer.

Get Rapid Maneuvers as soon as you get there (Alliance Assault skill line) and you'll be able to keep up even with a low level slow ass horse. Get Purge as soon as you unlock it so you can survive and help others survive fire siege shots.

I finished 3rd last campaign there with a Sorc that was level 17 when the campaign ended... low levels work just fine in that campaign if you run with a good group.

Can you level your character in PvP? Or it's not viable?

Technically, yes. But it's slowwwwwww :)

Funny thing though, Blackwater Blade, the non-vet campaign is addictive and there are many good guilds that play there. Some people try their best to not level especially when they hit 40 so they can keep playing there.

sorry i cant make that decision for you. Nobody else here can. Read all the comments and make up your mind. Do you like the game? then by all means keep playing, the sub is optional now and there are no restrictions for not subbing. If you didnt like the game before chances are you wont like it now. I personally came back on the PS4 and ive been playing almost every day while waiting for other games to come out.

Great game DO NOT PLAY IT TODAY!  Turns out the changes they made to provisioning is making the game crash and it is I think going on around 4 hours where they haven't fixed it yet and are just keeping game up. Guess patch was never on PTS, so had no testing at all. Like I said great game bad developers. Sad really they can't even test a patch before letting it go live.

So wait a while go play a working game come back in few days.

Definitely a challenge to get to level cap, when you hit 50 you are just getting started.

I just want to second Iselin's response about playing in the Blackwater Blade non-vet campaign. I pretty much play in that campaign all the time and it is great fun. Also for some reason there is less lag - in fact very little lag - in that campaign.

In terms of zerg fest, you will find that certain groups will focus on trying to take keeps etc and this will generally feel kind of zergy. I think you need to join in these from time to time, if only to understand different pvp strategies. However, you can also join small gank groups which are heaps of fun and you will end up seeing a lot of small scale pvp.

Any class can be good in the non-vet campaign, but I would recommend DK for a first class because you get many powerful pvp abilities early on; the other classes are late bloomers and I think NB only works well with lots of champion points (although they are great at taking out enemy siege even at low levels). If you have already rolled a different class to DK don't worry- just try to focus on getting the key abilities quickly.

The fastest way to level is to go to grind spots in the normal pve world and just kill mobs. You can find good grind spots using google. When you do this, put the skills/skill lines you want to level up on your bar so they level up fast, even if it is not an optimal build. I find levelling 8-20 the slowest then it seems to get easier/faster.
