This week, Jason examines why Heart of Thorns taking a long time to come out isn't such a bad thing, in the long-term.

This articles seems like it's excusing Anet.  If the rumors were true, they've had plenty of time to get an expansion out by now.  Supposedly, they were working on a secret project (aka expansion) since the launch of the game, while the "B team" was working on the living story stuff.  So in essence, you can say they've been working on the expansion for 2+ years.  From what we've seen so far, this expansion looks really shallow and if this is all they can create in all that time, i don't have much hope in future content/expansions.  I just don't get this company.  They hype an expansion, and then fail to deliver on new content to keep players interested until it releases.  The announcement probably boosted short-term sales though.

^ It's pretty negative, but for the most part I agree. I enjoy the game from time to time and even if it takes another year to release that's fine. There was no need for this apologist article.

I don't care what they add to the game, as long as it includes fixes to condition, healing/support builds and their shitty AI, which will make more than just zerkers desired in PvE group content. It sounds like they are addressing condition builds, but they've made no mention of making support builds viable.

Arena net has not been excused nor will it be excused until they return my account (which was never banned but lost in a reformat of my computer).  that was 39.99 I spent just magically disappearing and not relating to any of my accounts.

Im OK with them taking all the time they need to deliver a great experience. I wish it released like yesterday already but if the final product  is top notch then i hope they dont rush it just to please some people that still complain about everything regardless of release dates.

A good game will keep players coming back long after they've reach their initial burnout phase. Gw2 and WoW are the two that keep me coming back . I have a lot of issues with both games mind you, but that doesn't take away from the quality they both offer overall. Gw2 doesn't have to worry too much, but they are reaching a make or break point with this expansion. It doesn't have to be the biggest or best expansion for any game ever, but it needs to layout the groundwork for future updates and content and it needs to have enough content on its own to be worth the asking price. I can't wait personally, but if it costs the dev team their families I'll be glad to give em a little extra time. Family first.

judging by the broken stream today it seems there will be quite alot of support with the trait rework.. both engineers and elementalist seem to be able to go full on heal mode. looking forward to seeing the rest of the changes to the professions they did'nt have time to show due to twitch breaking down.

I had fun once, it was terrible.

I don't want people suffering to bring a game out but as often its the staff at the bottom end that suffer for bad decisions at the top.  In this case Anet abandoned their living story and frequent feature updates to bring out what they call an expansion which by the time it comes out and then new content after that it will just be a little more than the previous Living Story seasons but one season and a bit in one go.

I find the new zones quite boring because they are tight packed smaller zones based around so many repetitive mini games and battle zones where often the zerg mentality seemed to rule last i played them. anyway Im playing ESO now so I dont know if Ill be getting HoT or not.  Plenty to do in ESO but unfortunately the guild seems to be socially end game only.

Actually they did mention somewhat of making some support builds more viable.  I didn't watch the whole hour and some odd long stream they had earlier.. only the first thirty minutes, but from what they said about the changes, some classes do have more viable options to aid others.  The changes to the ele water traits is just one of them.

But on top of that they did mention some other options with the new specializations like the new shield abilities and buffs the mesmer has.  While you're not going to be a true blue full on support, (though you could technically if you wanted) yet again the viability really only has a major effect in PvP and dungeon groups, but I think we'll still be swinging mostly to DPS and Conditions and survivability more than anything else.

In my mind, what matters is the expansion is good, and that the base game is good. Content drought is better than getting a half baked expansion. That will hurt the game forever.

They can do different things. Maybe add a few world bosses, put in some LS Season 1 content in fractals of the mist, bring brack SAB, maybe do another prelude in other zones to HoT with more long-term armor collections like in Silverwaste.

No content since January is simply inexcusable, whether they hire more creators or simply release past content either way the community is letting them get away with something blatantly lazy.

Well since they lost all good devs of GW1, delaying means in this situations they cannot hold their promises and rather than releasing a failure up front, they try to cover and flick some core mistakes. Doubt they can make the update (yes update not addon) good for the new crowd of 2015. They probably try to please everyone and fail at everything.  I hope theyr core base will like it though. GW2 was the game that was never ment to be for me. Thank god.

what i DO like is that they stick to a horizontal progression, broaden every class and add modes/content for pve and pvp - so something for anybody

yeah, they can take their time. I have some summer fun to attend. This fall would be nice.

All of my posts are either intelligent, thought provoking, funny, satirical, sarcastic or intentionally disrespectful. Take your pick.

I get banned in the forums for games I love, so lets see if I do better in the forums for games I hate.

I enjoy the serenity of not caring what your opinion is.

The only way that could happen would be if you forgot your password and security information and account details and changed email addresses and forgot the old email address.
