Wasn't EarthRise one of the worlds worst? I only know what I read but rubber banding mobs, crazy bugs, no content etc... I hope it is nothing like EarthRise when it is finished.
Yes, it might be worse than any other, imo. I want a sci-fi sandbox more than most, and everything in the repop reminds me of throwing my money into the fire pit know as earthrise.
It's not Earthrise lol, I can attest to that. However it's also not at all optimized or bug free by any stretch of the imagination. I would say keep an eye on it in the fall to see if people are saying that it is cleaned up and humming. It's a very good game imo, with a lot of depth.

Television used to be black and white. Things change. Adapt.
Are you saying black and white tv was better than what we have now? I think we have all "adapted" well to this change lol. Really should have thought that one through more bud.
I bought the game a while ago, it was too rough around the edges for me to mess with.
A lot of people that have it are just waiting until they can progress without a wipe. I played it, loved the crafting (new SWG pretty much) and the combat was a little lackluster. But the game itself was really really fun, just took a while to do things, and because of that it feels like a waste of time playing for an extremely long period of time on a character to just have it all go to waste when it wipes before OB or launch.

That sounds just like earthrise. I played both, spent money on both, and have been a part of development for both. Look, I want the repop to produce a fantastic game, but it does not seems like that will happen at this moment. Please understand, a sci-fi sandbox is what I want, and this game is starting to look like a pipe dream....one where the pipe is filled with some reggie.

I jumped back on recently to get some friends interested. We are all hooked but the wipe thing is a bummer. I agree that the skill ups are not super fast, and so dying is a frequent event for me at the low end of the offensive and defensive skill range, not too mention barely any fittings in my gear.
I feel like the released game will definitely be for those who like to put some effort into the game and are willing to not be super heroes out the gate. You also are not the savior of the galaxy, thank goodness.
Combat seems a bit better than it was a few months ago, with the feel getting more responsive by a bit, but with some things sucking (you can't equip a flamethrower and a melee shield any more).
One of the things I like about it is that the loot in the game speaks to a world with some depth to it, with the crafting needing a lot of stuff to feed it. The feel of the world they created is good imo, as it is interesting but also kind of fill in the blank so you feel like there is a sense of discovery.

As a classic EQ1 person I like that things take time and you aren't required to do quests. I am concerned that mob loot is going to be an afterthought and the only thing to do is craft. I played SWG near launch and it really lacked in the killing mobs for interesting loot department. Many didn't drop anything. How's the loot in this game? Is everything dropped just a material for crafting?
Strawhat: Why are you giving up on a game that has massive patch notes quite often? They are clearly making big changes to the game.
I only play a bit every few updates, mainly to prevent being bored with it before it officially releases But I suspect that many others do the same. Also because there will be a character wipe at release.
I do have some worries though. The mechanics they chose for resource gathering (nodes blegh), the skill system and crafting specialisation.
- The resource gathering feels very tedious to me at the moment. It is time consuming and feels very repetitive and atm uses fixed node locations. Maybe once the harvester system is fully fleshed out, this will change. This really looks like one of the most boring specialisations in the game atm.
- The skill system while on paper seems nice, doesn't seem to offer much unique combinations.
Then the crafting system. I do like the idea of player interdependency, but the way it is now, I am afraid that it will require too many different specialisations. And some of those are not really interesting imo. I wonder if a niche game like this will have enough players to sustain this many different specialisations. Oh and patterns.
On the other hand, this game really feels like a game that their devs want to play.
