I think ArenaNet is going to be surprised with just how few people buy this expansion. The hype level for it just isn't there from what I've seen. I'm not buying it because GW2 just wasn't what I thought it was going to be. It was overhyped and lied about right from the start, and then the LS really killed it for me. I'm sure it will still sell enough copies, but probably not the amount expected.

That's not because you don't like it, or it's not what you expected it to be that it will not sell enough copy

There are lot of players in GW2, i will preorder it, and i'm sure lot of people will do

Im pretty sure it will do horribly.

There are just far 2 many alternatives:

    DOTA 2 reborn

    Wild Star

    CS:GO

    LoL

And hte best of all, the core players (like myself) got shoot in the knee. Neverless, i found the expac looked stale and boring- would have bought it even for 30 dollar.

Pre-purchased. Now this and Fallout 4 (also pre-purchased) are something "I" can look forward too! Can't wait for both.

Sorry to hear this, but it's pretty common. Every recent title released becomes a niche game and has folks that form a community within the niche. You are not part of the community and are not expected to purchase the expansion. I tried ArcheAge and didn't like it, why would I purchase an expansion for it? If you don't play the game you don't actually realize just how many people are playing it and how excited they are for the expansion.

In my years of playing mmorpgs, I have personally found that the players in GW2 are the most mature and committed players of any title out right now. There are folks here that complain about the price and "they" won't buy it because it cost $15 dollars more than other expansions, but I know that a huge amount of people in my guild alone will be pre-purchasing it. When it comes to entertainment value, GW2 offers the most for price. You can't beat the monthly subscription.

Death is nothing to us, since when we are, Death has not come, and when death has come, we are not.

It will be a grinding feature only for guild made by no lifers.

Really since the game is labelled as GUILD WARS,it should have had Guilds from day 1.

I can point at a really low pop f2p game ROM that had guilds and guild wars,so go figure Anet got one upped by a low budget operation.

Thing i noticed with Anet is they like to do their marketing with fancy terms/titles,that is why they chose the misleading Guild Wars title.

Yes  the expansion is a complete ripoff, you cannot CLAIM you are a f2p game when you are charging a near full price of a game release for an expansion. It is like a car salesman telling you can get that brand new car for only 120 bucks a month,ya with 20k down lol.

IMO and i don't mind paying to play games, that is why i stick to subscription, but i know the quality of content in subscriptions,no way they are worth more than 30 bucks when i can buy a complete game for 40/50/60.Expansions are worth like 1/5th  tops of a full game release price.

Look at the forums right now. Anet dropped the ball hard, this expansion will not do well, especially early on unless the idiots at Anet finally try to fix everything, which they won't since they don't care.

I agree with you partially... I don't play GW2 anymore because it was not what we were told.  They changed directions very quickly, within three months, and like you LS killed it for me.

But, Heart of Thorns is turning out to be really something.  Guild Halls look absolutely mint.

Still unsure if I will purchase though.  I've been having a blast with Warframe, Cities: Skylines, Dirty Bomb, Firefall... Good stuff there.  Maybe Im just done with traditional MMO type games.

I don't either and won't be getting the expansion. When they suddenly stopped all news right after the hypetrain event, I knew one of two things happened 1: either they didn't have enough done to show us or 2: they were playing that "we don't want to say something that we'll later actually have to put into the game or be caught lying" game. So I decided to wait. Sure enough, here it is again and it's looking more and more like a half fast series of minor changes to the game that really don't amount to a full sized expansion imo. I'll just be over here exploring and enjoying ESO on the console thanks. They lost me because they waited so long to get out info and what they did release was just too little to be considered an expansion.

Final Fantasy Heavensward is a $50 Expansion, GW 2 HOT is a $50-$100 DLC, just an HUGE SCAM, I bought everysingle DLC and xpac from anet since GW1, not this one.

    @Wizardry

Gw2 has always had guilds from day 1, the reason the game is called guild wars has nothing to do with guild halls or player guilds. It has to do with lore predating events that happened in the original game. But I must admit it is a witty name.
I have played tons of f2p games and p2p as well and it is generally true that p2p tends to put out better content but I wouldn't disregard the game just because of that. It's had good funding and has put out some of the best features/gameplay on the market atm imo.

    Yes because FF14 is b2p.

I don't know. The track record of GW2 so far isn't so brilliant when it comes to new content. So far I have no idea how large in scope this expansion pack is. So 50-100 Dollars for a first XPack with unknown release date and of unknown size seems a bit much to ask for. I understand they don't work for free, but 50 Dollars just for the basic pack?

I guess I just wait until it is for a cheaper price.

Preorder is just too expansive for a feature patch. When you price something like a full game, you have to offer more than we currently know of HoT for the money. I intended to buy it, but the pricing is a joke. When you want to get a free char slot you have to buy a pack with the full standard edition in it. Either you own the game and don't need another standard edition, or you don't own it and down need the free char slot either. Weird and too costly anyway.

Most people in my guild think likewise. This way ArenaNet will be surprised with the numbers they greedily try to sell their HoT.

Haha, when did they claim they are F2P. They are Buy 2 Play mate, get it right. They make their money out of the boxed expacs. If you don't realize that then you need to wake up and smell the roses.

    This is not a game.

FFXIV;ARR is P2P, but the thing is, all the new stuff that was added to the game not including the upcoming expac, is probably more than this new DLC for GW2 amounts to, which in short means, you get what you pay for. image

Night haven- they have back pcs that show the guild emblem, chest armor that shows the emblem... All weapon types that show the emblem on them and guild banners. So yeah, there's that

So from what I saw in the preview video shows groups of people doing things to get the guild hall, so let me guess, if you are a small guild forget about ever getting a guild hall.

    Wouldn't surprise me.

Are seriously comparing GW2 to LOL and CS:GO? Are you serious?

I'm going to pre-order it tomorrow. What you want does not reflect what everyone wants for the game.

As soon as I saw the guild halls and the GvG I knew that the expansion is worth my money.

I originally thought that Guild Wars was associated with wars between guilds, but it's based on the history of Tyria: the game's lore. Not technically player guilds vs player guilds.

I'm glad they added GvG though.

"Expansions are worth like 1/5th  tops of a full game release price"

-So, according to you, expansions are only worth 10 dollars tops? Come on...why this mindless whining?

Do you need the xpack to be part of the guild halls content? I can understand the new area requiring the xpack but when games start requiring it for something that should have been around at the first place is when I get little frustrated in how they market new xpacks.

Idk, I have mixed feels about this xpack hehe.
