Mass Effect: Andromeda: New Trailer, New Name, New Site!

SBFordSBFord Former Associate EditorMember LegendaryPosts: 33,129

EA's press conference is ready to begin. While they have an extensive stable of games, and we're likely to see a lot about Star Wars: Battlefront, we also know that Bioware is on hand. We hope to hear more about Mass Effect 4. What about you?

MASS EFFECT 4 KICKS IT OFF!!!!

Mass Effect Andromeda, finally a name, a site and a trailer! ME:A is expected to be released in Winter 2016.

Today we debuted the first cinematic trailer for our next game, Mass Effect™: Andromeda. While we are still many months away from the game’s release date in holiday 2016, we’re excited to show you a bit of where we’re at. First, though, some background on the game itself.

When we wrapped up the original Mass Effect trilogy with Mass Effect 3: Citadel in early 2013, planning and design on Mass Effect: Andromeda was already well underway. We knew we wanted to start with a foundation composed of the best parts of any Mass Effect game: exciting new worlds to discover, great characters, and intense action. At the same time, we clearly wanted to expand the definition of what you should expect from a Mass Effect game.

While we aren’t ready to go into too many details just yet, as you saw in the trailer and can tell by the name, this game is very much a new adventure, taking place far away from and long after the events of the original trilogy. You will play a human, male or female, though that’s actually not the character you saw in the trailer (more on that later). You’ll be exploring an all-new galaxy, Andromeda, and piloting the new and improved Mako you saw. And through it all, you will have a new team of adventurers to work with, learn from, fight alongside of, and fall in love with.

We built this trailer in Frostbite™, our game engine, and it represents our visual target for the final game. We are thrilled by what we’ve already been able to achieve in bringing Mass Effect to Frostbite and by putting our entire focus on PC and current gen consoles. With the time remaining in development, we’re excited about the possibility to push things even more.

Thank you again for all of the support you keep showing us, and we’re looking forward to sharing more details with you near the end of the year. Until then, the teams in our Montreal, Edmonton, and Austin studios will be hard at work creating an entirely new adventure for you to lose yourselves in.

Thanks,

Aaryn Flynn, Studio General Manager, BioWare Canada

Yanick Roy, Studio Director, BioWare Montreal

    Oh HELL YeaH!!

    Speculation based on the trailer:

    More planets to actually visit?

More open world? hopefully with some alien wild life....but definitly bigger then the planets we could visit but mainly only small settlements or city's. I definitly look forward explorering some alien planet.....

If I was just listening to the trailer instead of watching it  I would of thought it  was a Fallout 4 trailer :D

It would be nice if you could play as something other than Human in this.

I see a lot of easily impressed people,i thought it looked cheap, from the heavy fog in the maps to cut down the LOD quality to the EASILY made space map idea there, paste a star texture on to the walls or via some skybox, would take a quality employee or two all of one day to make that whole scene.

The funny thing is i stumbled onto my first ever look of a Mass Effect game in Twitch today and saw something that made me lol.I saw that same 3 choice questing idea Bioware used in SWTOR.I didn't even know Bioware made ME,i googled it and was not surprised i saw that same copy/paste idea.I even felt most of SWTOR was copy paste code from Kotor game design,so i have not been getting very good vibes from Bioware as a developer.

I also found out about the controversy surrounding ME3,then later addressed by the CEO to make sure he didn't lose his fanbase and reputation. So i think i am not the only one skeptical of Bioware's operation and abilities.

The only positive i see in ME4 is up close the graphics are nice but aside from that, nothing impressed me.You can't even have good competitive combat in those bland open maps. From the E3 show i was impressed more by the Tom Clancy games, batman Arkham and a few titles i never heard before.

Looks like bait to me, here's an idea, actually play some of these games you trash constantly, maybe then you'll have something useful to add? It's always "what I saw on twitch"...

QFT, play the games, check the release dates then see how wrong you are about everything. Even with the botched ending of ME3 (now fixed) this is the best trilogy I have ever played.

    Is "Holiday 2016" a Winter 2016 (1 year and a half away) or a Summer 2016 (1 year away)?

To any extent, I would argue this is too early a reveal...There is enough hype around Mass Effect imo, it doesn't need over a year's worth of advertising to sell amazingly well. I wish that instead of signing up to far away release schedules that they "release (and announce) it when it's ready".

The trailer is very cool visually, but what I'm personally looking forwards to is progression, companions, living universe. I hope those will be really well done!

it means Winter 2016 around December i think.

there is a slight chance it will be delayed too but knowing EA, they probably won't allow it.. because they already gave Bioware division a one year break in 2015 (i know this new Mass Effect is being created by a different team this time, but it's still Bioware). it can be a disturbing thing if the game turns out to be a bug fest or ended up being rushed thanks to EA rushing them. then again comparing to Mass Effect 3, this time they had around 4 years to work on it (but it is on a new engine compared to the previous games so obviously they needed more time)

most of my posts are just my opinions they are not facts,it is the same for you too.

I wonder how they'll explain ME3's universe....which ending will be 'canon'.

I also, REALLY, hope they don't go for limited endings. If we play to the best of our abilities and strife for a 'perfect ending', we should get an ending that satisfies us. -- Something, I at least, didn't get in ME3....seriously, should have just let the game go down the epic space battle route. I was so stoked when 'The Fleet Arrives' started playing and all those ships from all those races I had helped in ME1 and ME2 and most of ME3 showed up.

...sometimes we're not playing games for 'deeper meanings' we just want to see a big ass fight with lots of explosions and lead the charge; be the hero.

Also, next time, don't use Stock Images for our favorite ladies in non-transparent head gear :P

*You could have held fan contests and the winner's drawing could have been used as a reference; you know...gotten the fans involved and built the hype up even more [prior to release].

Wish they hadn't used the same engine they used for DA:I (Frostbite?) It was excellent for area's in DA:I, but the character models were hit or miss (mostly misses). Not to mention animations were not so great.

    In War - Victory.
    In Peace - Vigilance.
    In Death - Sacrifice.

Would love to have option for combat like in majority of MMOs, not over shoulder view only, but also to see full avatar, around, ... and have mouse for move and 0-9 buttons for spells, ...

I reserve judgement until I see a beta or even the release version.

I have seen EA make promises and make videos of games coming out in near future that were just gimmicks to get the sheeple to toss out thier money and then have them complain about the game they bought later.

I dont have alot of great memories from EA... I played some of te football games as a kid back in the 80's. I watched EA go through the player revolt and earn the title:

Worst Publisher of the Year- three years in a row....

I havent seen anything from EA that shows they have changed how they do things. I havent seen  hide nor hair of an apology nor a corporate statement that mentions the Corporate restructuring to fix the inherent problems in the company design teams.

No, Ill wait for EA to prove they have changed for the better.. a title doesnt mean shit anymore... they have to earn my money now.

    Fool me once, shame on you;

Fool me twice, shame on me.....

Played: UO, LotR, WoW, SWG, DDO, AoC, EVE, Warhammer, TF2, EQ2, SWTOR, TSW, CSS, KF, L4D, AoW, WoT

Playing: The Secret World until Citadel of Sorcery goes into Alpha testing.

Tired of: Linear quest games, dailies, and dumbed down games

    Anticipating:Citadel of Sorcery

No chance they get that price this year... UBISoft have that thing down and secured.

As for ME:A, if DA:I is any indicator it will be a really interesting game. Also looking forward to see how history went down.

This have been a good conversation

I love the Mass Effect games, I love science-fiction in general, but I don't understand how people can get excited by a trailer like this. It tells us nothing, aside that there's going to be a new chapter in the series (which is great, but it's hard for me to get excited without details).

  • DarioZDarioZ Member UncommonPosts: 4

Really disgusted, it's not even Mass Effect anymore.

The ship doesn't even navigate using the Mass Effect, instead it uses a Star Warsy hyperspace.

This series was amazing for the deep sci-fi feeling, but now it's just another fantasy game with dragons and mages, all just in mech version.

And the trailer... just a couple of concept arts with CG upon, and nothing really solid inside. Really a poor impression for a trailer of a (should have been) AAA game. The only thing this trailer is telling me is:

"Our stakeholders are looking forward for your 50/59€ or better 99,159 and 249€ for the ultimate supah editions with map of the galaxy, rod of Shepherd... I meant N7 boonie hat, soundtrack of the game, the art of ME:A etc etc etc..."

Seems to me that they even don't know their own games... What's Mass Effect? Something that's not in that trailer at all, not as ship navigation mean nor as game "soul", and it not requires at all Shepard or N7 or Normandy 6000, but I bet we'll recieve a bombing run of references in this chapter.

    Pity really.
