Can Anybody Recommend A Good MMO Only Info Site?

KwonKwon Member UncommonPosts: 56

MMORPG.com seems to be about all sorts of games now.

Anybody recommend a good MMO only news/info site?  I hate that I need to click a few times and read a bit to see if the game is an MMO or not.  I discovered this site nearly a decade ago because it was for MMO's only.

Remember when "Genre" on the games list simply informed you what kind of MMO it was?   Not its just tells you if its an MMO or not.

Dont get me wrong:  I understand the lines are blurring as to what is an MMO or not, but come on, some of these games arent even close to MMO's. Just because there is a multiplayer option doesnt mean its an MMO.  Maybe MMORPG should consider starting a sister site for these games.

Any good MMO only sites you guys are visiting?

Ask yourself this...are most MMO players only interested in playing MMOs?

Of course not, they are interested in all sorts of games, so in these lean times for new MMORPGs, the site is catering to the broader tastes of it's audiance, and every other site that is trying to make a profit will do the same.

No one is making it a "petty argument" thread.

He asked for an mmo only site. Problem is that there aren't really any that I have come across. And I've looked as I wanted to see what other mmo sites were out there.

In any case, the OP would then go to Massively only to find it has "other games" as well.

Having said that this site is supposed to be releasing a new design that is better with the segregation of these games. However, I strongly suspect that, other than the reddit site you mentioned, there aren't going to be a lot of "mmo only sites" going forward unless it's a private site that doesn't rely upon ad revenue.

Although I can't really say how good it is... here's one I just came across today... mmogames.com

  • LeiloniLeiloni Member RarePosts: 1,266
This site still covers more MMORPG games and more stories than most other MMORPG sites. They also tend to have better quality articles - more well written, better content, and they at least try to be as unbiased as possible in not only what they say, but what they cover. Can't say that for some of the other sites.

Well, there are people who want "mmo only news".

I "think" (at least from what I have read but I could have misunderstood it) that one can select the type of news that one sees.

I personally like an mmo site that adds info/news from other games I'm interested in.

There's no denying they're playing two fields, it's purely a business decision, which is fine but not what everyone who came to this site wanted from it. In simple terms, no, at least not that I've ever heard of. Some websites "used" to be mmo-only news sites, but as mmos have slowly declined over the past several years, these sites have started having to branch out to other genres in order to find enough stuff to report.

I say this as someone who would "also" like a mmo-only news site, one devoid of those crap MOBA games I hate so much.

To find an intelligent person in a PUG is not that rare, but to find a PUG made up of "all" intelligent people is one of the rarest phenomenons in the known universe.

Good grief. He didn't say people like you don't exist. In his first sentence he acknowledges your very existence and then claims you are in a tiny minority. In his social circle he says there is no one that plays like that. In my circle of gamers I know several mmo players, but no one that exclusively plays mmos. I'm not saying they're not out there. It does lead me to think that that demographic is pretty small.

That is why I think mmo only sites will go the way of the dodo. All of the sites mentioned in this thread aren't mmo only, or are by the loosest and most broad definition that purists would, I think, find objectionable. It makes more sense for a site to have a broad select of games and let the users filter based on their preferences.

While I find it difficult to understand how those of you stating that those of us who want to play MMORPGs only are a 'tiny minority' or a 'pretty small' 'demographic' get your numbers.  My guess you are just making a wild ass guess about what the numbers are.

However,  a site dedicating itself to news an comment about MMORPGs only would have very little to wright about at the moment.  That is the real problem how could anyone generate enough clicks with so little content?

And wouldn't it be cool if you didn't have to read ads from games you wouldn't touch with a two million foot pole?

It sounds a lot like some folks are seeking targeted news delivery, selectively filtered.

A Pandora-like engine, or something on the close order of Amazon's or Google's targeted advertising might do the job. "Show me more titles like this game but not like this one."

    ---

Would most users of this site, after selectively filtering out all the games they don't want to see or hear discussed, end up with a single title (from 2000 or earlier?)

Could we still call that "MMO News", by any stretch of the imagination?

Wouldn't it be more efficient to read the single twitter hashtag?

It always becomes a petty argument thread here.  In fact, it's usually by the same 6-8 people.  Take this thread for example, and see how it has devolved.  It's a real deterrent to people who want to contribute, but don't want to wade into the muck.

To the OP:  MassivelyOP has more consistent MMO news.  I use it daily as a reliable source of info.

Of course it does when the OP is passive aggressive whining about how he'll take his business elsewhere, because the people who run the site have moved away from catering 100% to what he wants. (He sugar coated it, but it's basically what he's saying)
