I recently got the game and I really like it.. but I'm having a problem..
Namely, nobody ever talks to you or answers questions.. unlike in WoW if I chatted or asked a question in the region-wide local channel, people would respond.
But I try asking questions in Broadcast channel here both in Camelot and outside the city, and pretty much nobody is willing to answer basic questions.
Fun game but very unfriendly or at least "stupid newbies, cant be bothered to answer his question" attitude out there from my few days of gameplay experience.
I'm hoping to find a guild that is friendly towards new players.. I understand that 99% of people who play this probably are all veterans, but im just hoping some might be willing to take a new player in.
Im not looking for handouts, just for a group of people I can work with and learn from (theres a lot about the game i dont understand and its nice just to have people around to answer a basic question).
Im interested also in the realm vs realm stuff, but again, I have no idea how it works or even how to get invovled in it (the game's tutorial doesnt seem to explain to new players how to do the realm vs realm stuff).
So i'd also like to be part of a guild that participates in realm vs realm and is perhaps willing to teach a new player how to participate.
Does anyone know if there is a forum or something in game I can use to help me find a guild? Every in-game seems utterly unhelpful and unfriendly, so im at a complete loss.
Im on the Guinevere server if that matters at all.
Thanks for any help.

HI there and welcome to DAoC.
I am on the Gareth Server (Classic).
Check out our guild at sghq.com. Were looking to recruit some players on our Gareth server.
So that you know, we play Albion. But read our website, see if our guild is what your looking for.
We use Teamspeak, so its pretty much mandatory.
Anyways, Good Luck!
Welcome to DAoC!
The problem may well be you are on an old well established server. The vast majority of players there will be very experienced with at least one level fifty and will have access to the /level command that enables them to create an instant level twenty. This means that there will be fewer folks in the newbie guild, and ones that are there may be AFK alts or newbies the same as you who don't reply becasuse they don't know the answer.
My advice would be to start out on a classic server. Gareth is the most active.
If you decide to play Hibernia then check out my guild Decimus Legio: http://dl.portalsnetwork.com
We are a friendly and mature bunch and our priority is to help each other out above all else. You will find no big egos in this guild just helpful folks out to have fun and kill a lot of Albs and Mids. Check us out at the Camelot Herald to see our alliance details.

I posted this a long time ago on another message board but the information is still correct:
Taram's Guide to finding a Guild that fits you:
The fast method (typically takes a few hours of research)
Step 1: Know what you WANT in a guild. Do you want PVE? RVR? Lots of people? Small but dedicated group? Hyper organized? Loose? Mostly adults? Whatever?
Step 2: DO YOUR RESEARCH!!! DO NOT just do /lfguild to find a guild as you'll just get random invites and, odds are, the first guild that contacts you will NOT be what you're looking for.
Now go surfing. Visit the websites for the guilds remaining on your list. Read the information they have posted. If they have one (most do) read their message board. Get a feel for the type of folks in the guild. Get a feel for the guild's rules and policies.
Step 3: Once you determine which guild seems to be the best match post on their boards or contact them in game to join. This is the FAST way.
The slow way:
Play the game, meet people, especially in RVR, group with them, make friends. Eventually if you don't have a guild tag over you (and even if you do sometimes) you'll get invited to someone's guild. Frankly this is the best way to find a guild but it does require patience. (New info: And if you can't stand the newbie guild you may want to go with the 'fast way' at least in the short term).
Good luck!

Nice post Elnator. I would agree. The slow way is the best and the way I always do it. However I know the game reasonably well so not having a guild for a while isn't a big problem. It's also worth remembering for newbies that it is easy enough to leave a guild if it isn't working out for you. Most decent and mature guilds won't mind you leaving and will be quite happy to stay on friendly terms. If a guild gives you a hard time for leaving it's a fairly sure sign you were right to leave. I know a lot of newbies seem to think that joining a guild somehow obligates them in some way and worry unduly about leaving a guild they find unsuitable.

Only exception to that rule is if you're given loaner equipment and don't return it before leaving some guilds will get highly irate.

Erm, yes. But that never occurred to me, sir. I'd never do it, honest guv! Especially in a game where reputation matters. Pisses more folks off in Eve when a mole cleans out the corp hanger.

Here's what I did: I went to Guildportal.com and started reading. Many of the guilds listed there seem to be long-dead, but some were still up and running. Most of the guilds using the Guildportal web-resources have a charter that explains who and what they are. I read a lot of those, and ultimately found a guild that has been a perfect fit for me. Your results may differ, but it was a helpful place to start.
EDIT: Gah! I wish I'd known about the guild listings on the Herald sooner (there's an awful lot of information there, and I clearly missed some important bits of it)! That would've made my life a lot easier. It turns out the guild I joined was the 9th from the top of the page, while it was about the 45th name I researched at Guildportal. To the OP: skip my advice, and take Elnator's.
