TERA: Go Berserk on July 7th

SBFordSBFord Former Associate EditorMember LegendaryPosts: 33,129

A new micro-site has cropped up on the TERA main site that tells players that July 7th is a day to "go berserk". Berserkers are getting some love in the new update with new tier seven gear, new skills specifically for tanks, and much more.

All players will further benefit from the dressing room to check out the latest costume preview, the return of the Shattered Fleet, a new Timescape dungeon, overhauled Kaprima, a new battleground and a brand new raid dungeon called Akeron's Inferno.

Imprisoned gods are always best left imprisoned, especially when that god is the ultra-violent alter ego of the Father of Dragons — Saleron. Enter Akeron’s Inferno from Wyrmgorge, prevent the destruction of the Godbinder, and stop Akeron from escaping his prison. This new 10-player raid dungeon for level 65 players offers both normal and hard modes.

Check out the Berserk Day page on the TERA site.

I play a berserker and really didn't want to tank. Other than that, this patch looks good.

"Berserkers are getting some love in the new update with new tier seven gear, new skills specifically for tanks, and much more."

That should read; "Berzerkers are getting some love in the new update with new skills allowing them to tank. There's also a new Tier set for everyone, and much more!"

The way you have it worded makes it sound like it's only for Berzerkers. XD

I'm not particularly fond of this Berserker change.  There are now three tank-able classes in TERA but only one does it really well.  The other two, Warriors and Berserkers, are just second fiddle type tank classes modified to be able to tank due to the dearth of available tankers.  So now in the absence of a Lancer, Warriors and Berserkers will be expected to tank even though the player may not have any measurable tanking experience because they are, in essence, just "part-time" or "substitue" tanks.  It also pretty much rules out two additional classes for players who have no intention of ever wanting to tank due to tanking expectations by other players.

I like TERA but I wont hold back my disdain about how they have implemented their classes.  For instance, instead of leaving the classes as they were originally intended to be played, they change two of those original DPS classes into "semi" tanks and introduce two new DPS classes (Reaper and Gunner), when they could have just simply introduced two additional tank type classes and left the original DPS classes as they were initially designed to be played.   Its just all ass-backward "musical chairs" game play class mechanics.  Just doesn't make any sense whatsoever.

Well, to be fair, warriors were always tanks. Although they were evasion tanks at first (suited them much better imo).

As for 3 tank classes, from what i understand lancers are gimped now. They had only one job, that is to tank. Now there are 2 dps classes who are able to do it just as well (somewhat) in addition to their original strengths.

sorry LacedOpium im a warrior myself and i like how i can switch between being a dps or tank for my party when needed. not to mention a warrior who knows what he's doing can tank just as well as a lancer....
