My Guild has been compromised and Bioware Refuses to help.

kanechartkanechart Member UncommonPosts: 707

So I been away from SWTOR for a couple months and went back. We are a Streamer / Youtuber Guild and we run a pretty large community site for it. I run quite a few sites like Terraria Online for example.

Today I logged into SWTOR and noticed about 5 or so Members who are now Guild Leaders. I was puzzled and did some googling and saw an auto system.

I went ahead and tried to check the transactions but you must be a subscriber or buy to unlock it. So temp I went ahead and bought it account wide. I then went to check but shows so credit transactions.. Well that is a shame a lot is missing...

Anyways I tried to put a ticket in but they don't allow you to post tickets unless you are a sub..

So I emailed them and I got this really disgusting ticket back:

http://pastebin.com/eiDn2qj9

To sum it up they provide no support at all and all guild issues is 100% automated and there is no support for it.

This is beyond crazy. Even the worst MMO's or the most poorest MMO's like FUncom for example still put in effort to help with situations like this.

What the hell has happen over the past couple of years?

    I like Terraria.

I don't know what's so disgusting about your ticket. You were inactive. You would prefer to come back and find the guild dead?

Live guilds evolve. People that compromise guilds don't stay in them generally, they rob the bank and move on to the next one. What, exactly, is the problem here? Your bank is robbed, or not? Your good name is dragged in the mud by gold farmers or PVP exploiters? A free to play game does not pay people to adjudicate he said she said disputes about guild ownership?

Not trying to be hostile, just, more specifics would be cool.

So guild leader unsubs to the game and doesn't play for a while, and while he was away, other guild members, probably promoted because the guild leader was no longer eliglble to be a guild leader, decided to have fun with whatever happened to be in the guild bank, sounds like a self inflicted wound tbh. image

I'm sorry to hear that things fell apart in your absence... but I wouldn't be so quick to assume other MMOs would fix it for you.

I'm fairly sure that if it happened to you on WoW, and you'd been inactive for a while they'd also say "tough luck" (if it's more than 6 months ago, it's been deleted from their backups and nothing can be done - at least that's their stance on lost/stolen items).

But yeah, guild ownership transfers automatically if the leader's gone long enough. It's to prevent guilds from having to disband when the leader jumps ship without word to his guildies, and many MMOs have similar systems in-game.

Should've appointed a trustworthy officer in your absence. =/

(Unless it was an unplanned inactivity period due to circumstances of course)

Part of me wants to question "what type of guild this was".

I try not to join guilds where people spam invites and where instead I know/like most of the people involved.

So to that point, I assume you can just ask whoever is in charge to pass back guild leadership.

However, I strongly suspect this is just a "spam invite guild" where you really don't have strong ties to your members?

I would like to believe that this change, this "auto assign guild leader" was announced to players who ran guilds.

That would be the decent thing. I don't know if they did this or if they just changed the rules without people knowing.

If they did announce it and you didn't see it then that's a shame. If they did announce it and you ignored it then that's your decision.

If they didn't announce it then that's a shame.

if these are friends/good people who you have strong ties to I don't see why they won't give you guild leadership back unless they didn't like your leadership.

If these really aren't friends and just people who you invited here and there then other than the name I don't see any reason to reclaim the guild. Start another and make sure you get better people.

Incidentally, in Lineage 2, if a guild leader left, the players were screwed.

Also, how did you think your remaining players were going to get on without a leader if you assumed you kept complete control? Is it fair to your guild membership? Why didn't you leave someone in charge?

Before you left you should have given guild leader to someone you trusted. You knew that when you unsubbed you would no longer be able to be a guild leader, so at that point you kind of screwed yourself. What do you expect them to do, return everything that was taken due to your guild doing whatever they wanted when their leader unsubbed? I don't really blame it on them for that.

Free accounts do not get support usually and I have seen too many guilds become rudderless when a leader leaves and no one can change anything etc.

    Another point of view:

After you had not logged on for 4 weeks, Bioware helped your friends by allowing the person most trusted by you to get full control over the guild, so that your friends could continue playing and having fun together even after you left.

So basically you're not a paying customer, left the game, left the guild to rot without making sure you put leadership into trusted hands and you expect them to do what exactly?

Turn the clock back so you can make better choices?

    #gtfoh

    *edit*

Also, your word choice of "compromised" is garbage.  The connotation there is that some dubious action was taken to wrest control from you.  The truth is, you abandoned the guild for a couple years and came back with some off the wall expectations.  When I logged back into my dead guild and was granted leadership due to being a sub and the only player to log in in goodness knows how long after being gone for two years, my reaction was: BEST. SYSTEM. EVER.  Because you know what, it kinda is.

I really hope that *insert game name here* will be the first game to ever live up to all of its pre-release promises, maintain a manageable hype level and have a clean release. Just don't expect me to hold my breath.

What if a guild leader says "fk it, fk this game X, I am going to play game Y", leaves and never comes back?

Many players have done this in the past, and many games have built in options to remove inactive/unsubbed/ex-players from power.

There is a certain MMO out there that goes so far with holding hands and nurturingplayers that they can't think for themselves without the mods (Blizzard) helping them.

Normally MMO's should refuse this and let players take responsibility for their actions.

A player starts a guild, invites others, have fun together, then leaves the game, comes back x-years later expects his guild to be still intact& alive with all the members eager to welcome him back and throw a party?

    Doesn't happen.

Not outside the Blizzard bubble that is.

As far as SWTOR is concerned: if you leave the game when you are a guild leader but want to stay leader: tell it to your members, kick them/tell them to leave untill you and only you + alts are still there and then leave.

Bioware is NOT to blame here.

He lost the guild because of his actions or lack of them. Now he's trying to blame someone else for the results of his choice.

Sorry Kane you went inactive for months (5 you said) and the guild defaulted to others who where active.  So I see no reason for them to help you get the guild back.

Maybe next time you are a guild leader in any game you will consider this.  It happens in most games now days when the leader goes inactive for a few months.  Next time find someone you really trust to run the guild while you are gone and then hope beyond hope when you come back they are still there and will give you the guild back.

These types of threads shatter any hope I may have for humanity.  What did this guy expect after abandoning his guild for an extended period of time?  There is built in responsibility for being a guild leader, or any leader for that matter, and abandoning your troops for extended periods of time is at the top of the "must never do" list.  A guild leader should be required to have a bit of leadership skills.  Hopefully this is a lesson that will encourage and guide you on your path to acquiring some.

In  truth auto promotion is a fairly new thing to MMO's.  For a long time if you where leader of a guild you had absolute control over the guild with members having no alternative option than to leave.  Even if you unsubbed your guild just sat there without a leader and no way to promote one until/if the leader decides to come back.  I remember a friend of mine who was a senior office of a guild trying to get support to promote him to leader after the leader had been gone for over 6 months and they told him to bad they couldn't do anything to help.  The only choice they had was to form a new guild and abandoned all the work they had put into that guild.  This was in EQ2 where you level your guild like your own character and they had a very large guild hall as well that people had put a ton of work into so it was't a trivial thing either.

I can see both sides of this argument but I tend towards the attitude that a guild is more than it's leader and if that leader abandons their position especially without even making provisions for a replacement the remaining members should have a way to salvage the time and effort they put into the guild by promoting someone new.  If the OP did promote someone to leader role and they took the guild in a direction he didn't agree with well that's a personal issue between the two of you.

I ran a guild in SWTOR starting pretty much day one.  We got big (by my standards, 300 members) and we had a great deal of fun.  It was a great ride for awhile, raids, multiple weekly events, etc.  Eventually I decided to leave the game and left it in the hands of some very responsible people who had been leaders.  When I left I also unsubscribed from the game.

It took me a few months to get to the point where I wanted to leave and un-sub, specifically because I loved what I had created and wanted it to live on.  But once I decided to turn it all off, it was because I was prepared to hand my "baby" over to others, it was not going to be mine anymore and I needed to be prepared for it to change.  Even for the worse.

Well, as many of us do we come back, and I did, the guild still existed but was a skeleton.  I got leadership back right away only because the half dozen people left could not care less, it was given to them automatically as leaders kept dropping.  I was  bummed that it did not live on as I would hope, but I wasnt angry.  I wasnt upset at BioWare or under the impression I was robbed or un-justed.   Why would I create a ticket stating "my guilds been taken over and the bank is empty".  I quit the game!!!!  The people that let it go and emptied my bank we the guild leaders!!!

I understand your being upset, but its nobodies fault, nobody did anything wrong.  If left a box of donuts unatended in a public place for a month should I be mad when I only find an empty box when I return?
