Looking for a new MMO - Any and all recommendations welcome!

Hello,

So I'm sure regular users here probably see these posts a lot ... So, sorry for adding to that list. I did read through a lot of the previous threads, but I have yet to find a new MMO. I have been playing MMOs now for a very long time, so I do find it difficult to find something new. The games I've enjoyed really vary also, for a long time I was interested in APB Reloaded (3rd Person Shooter), then Atlantica Online (Turn Based "strategy" game), Jade Dynasty (Standard MMO, nothing "special"), Tera - Which I played since it was Pay to play (Slightly more actiony than your standard MMO, but still pretty standard).

Recently I've been playing Guild Wars 2 (Been a fan since GW Nightfall came out), tried Mortal Online, was surprisingly fun, but the sandbox-ness quickly bored me without people to play with ... What I'm basically trying to say, I've played a lot of different styled MMOs, so I am hoping you can post any MMO you can think of here, free, or not. Action, Button Mashing, anything haha!

The only issue is, since I've been playing MMOs for so long, I've tried a lot as well, so you might find that I've already tried the games you're about to recommend, but please, feel free to recommend it again,  don't want to put anyone off posting any game. If you could leave your reason and a little bit of basic information about the game (So free to play, buy to play etc. Action, Shooter, RPG, just basic info really).

Thanks everyone :)

Really Appreciate it

Have you tried GW2 with action combat mod? It actually gave the game a whole new feel and got me to play the game for a long while after I was bored of it when playing the "standard" way. Also if you haven't checked SWTOR for a while, it might be a good time to check it again (now it's mostly F2P). I have been enjoying it since my return (been away for 2 years?) and I'm not even a Star Wars fan. Also Wildstar is going F2P soon, so might check it out, but personally I won't be coming back. You have mentioned Atlantica Online, did you already try Wakfu? It's a cartoon-style turn-based MMORPG with many different classes, but it's very grindy, that's why I left.

    Cheers.

You might wanna give Trove a try.  It's free and it's simple.  Think minecraft, but you have classes and you can level them.  I have a buddy who's girlfriend loved it and it's something that they can play together.

    Hey Zag,

I have not tried Gw2 out with any mods, infact, I didn't know you could mod it. I've never actually tried SWTOR if I'm being honest, I've seen gameplay (old) and it never really grabbed my interest. But, I will give it a look at somepoint today! I've been waiting for Wildstar to go Free to play, so as soon as it does, I'll give it a try. I spent too much money on ESO when that came out, and I'm being a little more cautious when it comes to non free mmos. I've not tried Wakfu, but I did try Dofus for a while, that seemed quite fun, but at the time, I didn't have the money to keep paying for the sub. The grind was the reason I stopped playing AO, I love the game, and really want to keep at it, but the fastest way to level is to just kill kill kill. Occasionally I will go back on AO Day and spend the whole 24 hours mindlessly killing in desperation to hit 155 (Unlock a new area to grind ...)

There are very few MMOs I've actually reached Max Level, Tera, GW1, GW2 and APB are the only games I've managed xD So If I can find a game where it keeps my interest for long enough, I'd love to add a new game to my list.

Thanks for the reply, really helpful

FFXIV would be what I recommend.

    Hey mgilbrtsn,

Honestly, I've never even thought to give Trove a try, played Minecraft and Cubeworld a lot, really enjoyed both of them, might be worth trying Trove though! Thanks for the recommendation :D

As for FFXIV, I did try it, it was ... ok. It takes way too long to get going in my opinion, I just didn't feel like I was making much progress at all, and for a pay to play game, I just was fairly dissapointed. But, as a huge FF fan (7 of course being the best :3) I might be willing to give it a second try! (I do realize that someone else posted about FFXIV, but I'm not very good at forums and I can't remember their name to direct this paragraph to, sorry).

If you enjoy WoW's gameplay (or any other of the classic MMO setups) you'll likely enjoy SWTOR's. If you're looking mostly for something like ESO and TERA's, you likely won't.

The game's real strength is in its storylines, so if you enjoyed that aspect of ESO, you might like it on SWTOR as well. image

My SWTOR referral link for those wanting to give the game a try. (Newbies get a welcome package while returning players get a few account upgrades to help with their preferred status.)

It takes long in FFXIV to make progress? Really? I got 3 of my real life friends to buy and sub FFXIV in 2 months period they had 2-3 jobs level cap and high ilevel and doing end game content now. 1 month took for 1 job cap and high ilevel and all story main quests done, if that is considered long then forget my initial question.

If you REALLY want a game which is different and not the same copy-mmorpg u see everywhere just with different races etc...

    TRY THIS.

    http://en.wulin.webzen.com/

Age of Wulin is for EU, Age of Wushu for America

It is one of the BEST games i ever played, and im still playing it. There is no big quest-chains as known for annoying EXP lvling "kill 100 mobs to get 0,001% exp", its OPEN pvp with open PK, and many many features.

And alot more things are coming.

My name there is Ryá, RainClan GuildLeader, feel free to pm me ingame if you need help and i will guide through this game.

Sorry for this huge multiquote, thought it'd be the easiest way to remember what everyone said and reply individually!

I could never get into WoW, mainly because at the time, I couldn't afford it, but even now it's "free" (first 20 levels), I tried it and just didn't enjoy it. Ironically, the story is about the only thing I couldn't  care less for in ESO ... Yes, I know, a very heavy story driven game series haha. That could be why SWTOR really didn't look appealing to me. But I still do need to check it out agian, never know, might change my mind :)

Well, I played it with my brother and to start with, we were on free accounts, but it limited us to much in my honest opinion. So after he quit and I purchased it (and yes, played alone) I just seemed to be stuck in my first area for a very long time, I did give up eventually. But the gameplay and the game itself I really enjoyed, but the sub fee put all my friends off, and without party system in the free trial, no one gave it a serious enough of a go :/ So I suppose, my original post was a bit misleading and not exactly fair points to make.

I tried playing Age of Wushu a long time ago, but always ran into problems during the install, it might be because I'm from the UK and if Wushu is the American version it might not have allowed me to play. I had the same problem when downloading an American client of the game Maple Story. So I'll look at Wulin, if I do play, I'll be sure to hit you up ingame! Too often do I tried puzzle my way through MMOs alone haha!

Thanks for all the suggestions, really appreciate it :)

I recommend Rohan: Blood Feud, as of this time, they are conducting their summer events that has lots and lots of freebies. rohan.playrohan.com here :)

Have you tried a text based rpg game? Avalon: The Legend Lives is quite diverse with how many different ways there are to play your character. Whether you're in to PVP combat or a more casual game style of farming and labours or even something completely different you can get involved in their legion warfare. Enlisting men, using your guild or city's troops to take over villages to reap the rewards of their commodities or go big and invade an enemy city, burning it to the ground to the point it no longer exists and the citizens have to find new homes. It's free to play with sponsorship via guild or city so costs you nothing to give it a try!    http://www.avalon-rpg.com

Only one I can think of that's close to Terra would be Aion, also try The Secret World, Lord of the Rings Online, Wizardry 101, Neverwinter Online, STO.  Only a guess as I  don't know your playstyle but I've had fun with these in the past.
