    Late 2016 / mid 2017 timeframe

Game is in Alpha and adds Modules with new game mechanics every now and then.

Next big thing is the first part of the story campaign, coming either by the end of 2015 or early 2016.

Squadron 42 is the single player/Co-Op campaign coming first

Star Citizen is the Online part which will be last (most work)

On commercial release it will be one of the biggest MMOs ever made, taking around 5 years average production time like SWTOR/ GTA 4/5, etc. but made with only 30% of the budget

ah ha ha funny internet hyperbole by armchair developers who have no clue how long it takes to make an MMO from scratch.

You´re now in the Derek Smart camp, hope you enjoy your new company ;D

Hey how's the gameplay for Star Marine? What? Its been delayed indefinitely?

I thought CR was saying that it was going to be released shortly after PAX East? He said that the module actually sucked and is now only starting to become fun? Well that must be unfortunate.

All that aside perhaps you should stop armchair developing the game by telling everyone when the game is going to be released when CR himself can't stick to his own release schedule.

Hey Derek, you might want to look up the difference between indefinitely and infinitely in a dictionary, the former was made up by the corporate gaming press and regurgitated on every site and it doesn´t mean infinitely, only sounds similiar, so yeah..

Many who read the headline with the word "INDEFINITELY" understood  "AAIIIIIYYYEEEEE FPS IS CANCELLED ::: DOOOM !!!" and stated as much on the internet. Often. Loudly.    If they had actually read the article at Gamespot they would know its only delayed. But that was already too much to ask for.   And OF COURSE Gamespot knew exactly why they used the clickbait word "indefinitely" instead of writing "has been delayed".

FPS module is NOT, i repeat, NOT cancelled. Its is NOT postponed forever.

The FPS module is delayed because code needed reworking. This will most probably happen a few more times for this module and/or other modules during the development of Star Citizen.

Has there been a date announced since the delay? I'm not trying to hate on the game in any way, but all this fighting over the use of 'indefinite' is ridiculous. You call an apple an apple, not an orange just because you don't like the word apple.

Of course, none of that matters if there has been a new announcement. I don't keep up well enough with the game to know. So, has there been any new news on the subject?

bottomline, the FPS module is coming soon but they didn´t give a release day - big effing deal. Pretty sure they´ll never give any dates ever again and they learned their lesson about the press and immature complainers bitching because of some mid development milestone being delayed due to necessary improvements, people should just play Arkham Knight on PC then, I heard it´s great and was on time :D

    Dear OP,

Please don't get your hopes up for this game.  It is, one of many, kickstarter jukes to get your money for free.  If it ever even does come out it will be a shell of what of anything that was promised during "development".

After a decade of mmo failures I can safely say this one will be another.

    Playing: Smite, Marvel Heroes
Played: Nexus:Kingdom of the Winds, Everquest, DAoC, Everquest 2, WoW, Matrix Online, Vangaurd, SWG, DDO, EVE, Fallen Earth, LoTRo, CoX, Champions Online, WAR, Darkfall, Mortal Online, Guild Wars, Rift, Tera, Aion, AoC, Gods and Heroes, DCUO, FF14, TSW, SWTOR, GW2, Wildstar, ESO, ArcheAge
Waiting On: Nothing. Mmorpg's are dead.

I am a backer of SC, but only on a small scale. I bought a 60 buck package..and that is it. So I've purchased a game off the shelf, so to speak, before it was ready for the shelf. How people can pull the trigger on truckload of cash beyond what should be the base game price for something that isn't real yet is beyond me, but to each there own. Just goes to show how bad games have become lately that so many people are willing to throw money at the idea of SC.

That being said, what do you think devs are doing when they take 5 years to make a game? slowly building assets and writing code for one iteration of the final product??? NO! we build shit..and it turns out to be shit, so we rebuild and retune, iteration after iteration. Honestly, what is happening with the FPS module is biz as usual for development. You are asked to make something, you lay out a plan and a time table...then shit just goes right out the window.

Ever tell someone something and they glass over, so you have to rephrase the question/statement and suddenly they get it? That's code...if I write it this way, the engine should work...well shit, it got mixed up with something i said earlier, now i must rephrase to keep it doing what i want it doing without pissing off what was already doing...damn it, not it completely doesn't understand me at all...F*ckberries...rinse, repeat, scream...

What IS different is you have CR unwisely telling a room full of people that the module will be ready by date X before its actually ready. All he did by doing that is ensure that jerks like me are going to have a lot of Crunch time. When you say something will be released by X...it should basically already be ready for release when you announced it, save for polish. Now in fairness, he does say that all of this is subject to change, because he has done this before and knows what a bastard development can be...but still, this is the way developing is and he's putting a stoplight on it...the good and the bad.

Somewhere around 2017 or so. But there are rumors going that CR might add some other features if we keep donating.

I can also imagine if we donate another 80 million it will speed up the process. Keep buying ships my brother. Together we will endure this journey to the perfect game!

    Enjoy!

What our esteemed fellow poster is trying to tell you:

you may write the word "indefinitely", but many other posters on the internet use it like the word "infinitely".

The FPS module is not cancelled. The FPS module is not infinitely delayed. Its merely delayed until a not yet specified date in the near future. If you HAVE to call "not yet specified" as "indefinite", you may .... but there seem to be many out there too dumb to realize the difference between "indefinitely" and "infinitely".  Thats mostly the "AAAIIYYAAA ...DOOOOM ... GLOOOM ... 11!!" crowd screaming their heads off in the internet forums.

The $170 I have invested in the development has already been paid back in the entertainment value of watching the white knights and haters going at it. And we still have a long way to go!

Which is how you feel it .... but topic wise he was still correct. Too many people reading only the headlines are too dumb to understand the difference between infinitely delayed (=cancelled) and indefinitely delayed (delayed until an unspecified time in the near future, could be tomorrow, could be in 3 or 6 months).

And they react like typical doomsayers and predict "the fall of western civilization" (in the form of Star Citizen). On internet forums. Often. Loudly. Braying out their ignorance to the world at large.

You go to great efforts to shill for SC.  Kano took fanboyism to another level with AA but you have even exceeded his fanboy level.  His efforts for AA are through the roof but yours for SC are way up there in the stratosphere somewhere.

I don't think you'll be seeing it this year. (Not sure where you found that 2015 thing, but I imagine if it was this close, the hype machine would be in full motion, and there'd be articles on the upcoming release all over the place)
