?? About Ranger Class

blisseverblissever Member Posts: 124

Hello I just started GW and have a Ranger I was just wondering has anyone just stayed with a pure Ranger and not have a second profession.  Basically is a secondary profession really needed or can i just go pure ranger. Just looking for some thoughts and input.

Thanks

On your first play through a ranger/monk isn't bad since it gives you a few spells that help you stay alive and gives as many rezes as you want.

Ranger/mesmer is good as well for removing enchantments and hexes which helps out the team a lot.

You don't necessarily need a secondary as ranger for pve, but taking a support skill or two that doesnt require many attributes from another class improves your versatility.

You can make all chars with a single profession, but there is no gain to having a single profession, if anything its nothing but a giant loss.

    I agree, taking a second class helps alot actually.   I'm a ranger/mesmer.

nothing wrong with staying pure ranger but if you'll want/have to use your secondary sooner or later

My main and favorite is a Ranger and I agree with the Others if you are PvE then go Ranger/Monk at the start, you need to be able to heal yourself but once you reach lvl 20 and get into the bigger instance go Ranger/Mesmer, but once you reach elona reach and do all the mission you can chop and change at will all you need to do is cap all the Elites skills and normal skills for all profs (skill hunting is one of the fun parts of the game), Ranger/Warrior and Ranger/Necro are both interesting, sort of in a Warrior/Monk is good for PvE and Warrior/Ranger is good for PvP sort of way, but thats another discussion.

But I must add Pure Ranger is a complete waste, and anyone who thinks a Pure Ranger is any use never played ranger enough.

I was just wondering has anyone just stayed with a pure Ranger and not have a second profession

My first character was an R/E. As I advanced him through the game, however, I found that I was using more and more Ranger skills, and fewer secondary skills. I changed secondary to R/Mo once I got ascended for only one reason: Rebirth. Since I hardly team with anything but henchies, especially for farming/capping, a Monk's res is the only skill I need or use from my secondary set. In fact, all my characters but one have Monk secondary for that very reason.

I stated on another thread that Ranger is the only profession I would even consider taking through the entire game without a secondary, because they get decent armor (better than an Elementalist's), have good defensive skills, have good offensive skills, and are perhaps the most well-rounded profession in the game. Having said that, a Monk secondary will make your life so much easier.

If I were looking for a way to improve the game, it would be to allow runes to be applied to secondary attributes. Keep total aps where they are, but allow runes on secondaries so that we can have more options for playing different builds. Once character I'm playing now is an Me/N. At level 16, I can only summon level 12 horrors and fiends, which don't do a lot of good versus level 20-22 monsters in Crystal Desert. Will be even worse in Ring of Fire and S. Shiverpeaks. Switched him to blood magic for better team support (Well of Blood).

Again, Me/N (minion master) was a fun combo all the way through Kryta. Once you get to the desert though, that's when anyone has to start making tough choices about primary versus secondary skills, and what's going to be most useful against higher level monsters. IMHO.

You can find some ranger builds here

    Guild Wars Guru

Just click on the builds directory to the left

Don't just go ranger...it would be a waste. If you want to put all points into ranger abilities, that would make you a straight up ranger....having the secondary profession won't hinder you at all.

Taking a second profession expands the possiblities of what your character can do. Here are examples of common uses of secondaries on Rangers:

Warrior: By using the Ranger's Expertise attribute, many Rangers load up on melee attacks and with the reduced energy cost of Warrior attacks, continously use them in conjunction with a "Zealous" modifier.

Monk: Not as useful as other secondaries, as a Ranger is allready adept at keeping himself alive. If you want to help keep others alive, there is no other way to go. As mentioned before, Rebirth is always helpful to have in a PvE situation

Mesmer: Mesmer secondaries usually indicate a ranger who uses traps to deal damage to enemies with the un-interruptable power of Mantra of Resolve. Another Mesmer use is running into their midst and using Domination sklls such as Blackout to deny an enemy to use skills as the rest of the team destroys a target.

Necromancer: By using the armor-bypassing skills of Blood Magic, some Rangers use blood powers to supplement their offensive capablities. Others use Curses to soften up a foe with skills such as Weaken Armor to help make the target more vunerable to damage.

Elementalist: A variety of tactics can be used from this class. Fire Rangers have fun with spells such as Rodgort's Invocation as they use a Firey bow. Water Mages laugh as their target cant run away after their legs are frozen to the ground. Air Rangers knock people down as they fire arrows against their helpless targets. Earth Elementalists are the ultamate survivors, bringing their armor class past the level of Warrirors through spells and stances.

Note that these are all suggestions, feel free to discover your own combination of abilties! If you think it would be cool to have a ranger commanding a leigeon of the dead through a Necromancer secondary, So be it!
