Yeah AO is awsome but pvp is a big deal. If you cant pvp you may be in trouble, there are areas and times in the game where you will be required to fight clan/omni/neutral. TRUST me if your in a active org with high level characters you will fight some pvp battles. I think there the one of the funner parts of the game. NOw you dont HAVE to do it as a matter of fact you can play the game and never pvp, but its fun to steal omni territory and listen to them bitch. Then the neuts come and ram you from the back. Anyways, yeah its fun especally when you have AI expansion and you can raid alien ships good xp and nice weps and armor. SL has a great deal to offer newbs and higher level chars. I know I had some great times in SL wowing noobs as i soloed hecklers with my enfo.

The only think I didnt like was the gankers, that got kinda irritating in FFA zones

s . And when you want to camp ninjas they are aways camped buy some farming *ag who has been there for 3 days stright. Since hes a fixer hes got grid speed s000o he can get them faster than you. Ah the memories...*tear*::::16::

I just started playing this game... its amazing. You have to remember this game is 4 year old maybe older. The amount of gameplay, character development, everything... was lightyears ahead of its time. So much infact (and I played SWG for a year) SWG straight up stole ideas from Anarchy Online.... I mean straight up stole, and being your a SWG refugee you'll see the similarities from the Pre-NGE SWG and the current AO. I highly recommend this game to anyone who enjoys the classic MMO's.

I started with the free download too... the next night was was upgrading to Shadowlands. Dispite what some say, PVP isn't a big deal in this game when your leveling up. Perhaps later on it might be part of the game however its completely OPTIONAL.

I've been thinking of getting into AO for a while now.   I've been reading some of the threads here trying to get a bit of info on this game.

So, I have a question.  I saw someone wrote about "neutrals" attacking you.  Neutrals meaning what?  I'm thinking it means, those not in a certain faction or guild.

I'm aware there's pvp and although I've pvp in other games I really don't care for it.  Mainly because of the complaints, bad language and putdowns sent to you from players you've killed.

Do you have to pvp or are there non-pvp servers or places where you're not required to do it?

On the planet there are three factions, Clan, Omni and neutral then those are mirrored in the Shadowlands as well. You do not have to engage in PvP if you don't want to, it can be avoided. But with the game as it is it filters out the 1337 B.net script kiddie types quite well within an hour to a month of play so most people won't behave in the juvenile manner many of those playing WoW or Guild Wars do. The way it generally works is that various areas will limit the type of combat, no fighting, only against NPCs, against NPCs and rival factions and where anything and anyone can fight. Normally you can avoid the areas that allow player fighting but there are some areas you may want to go in later levels that are in areas that allow player combat. Some people will jump you if you go there, others will ask if you want to fight and some aren't looking to fight so ignore you. On the planet through you could just hop in a yalm and fly very high or travel with a group as it is good to be an org.
