He's lucky to live in Finland. It's a criminal's paradise. You can commit an amazing amount of crimes without going to jail and even if yo do go to jail, you get to live in a relatively nice environment with gaming consoles and everything. On one hand, I'm happy we don't have the overly strict legal system used in some other countries (*cough* US *cough*), but on the other hand, it's really annoying sometimes. This is far from being one of the worst cases, though. It's get much worse when you look at sexual crimes and realise they're treated as petty thievery.

I'm guessing that the only reason why Finland has such a lenient attitude to criminality is because it's quite rare in the first place. No society tolerates significant disruption indefinitely.
It`s ironic that Smed might lose his job due to provoked DDOS going on long/frequent enough, but NOT due to his repeated violent public behavior - he likely won`t even get sued (anyway, his money wold only laugh at that).

In most European countries digital crime is not seen as severe as 'normal' crime although much more money/data has been stolen through the internet with hacks and fraud then actual crimes. The governments are just now starting to notice such crimes when many people are victims of fraud and identity thefts.
Plus adding to that the criminal here is a minor, and also in most European countries the criminals have more rights then the victims and you get a older judge not familiar with the digital gateway.

Lizard Shits can actually be tried in the United States, because they are effecting US citizens and US commerce. Their country cannot protect them from the wrath of the US justice system, fortunately.
All it takes is to get said justice system's attention, which a grand scale cyber attack on a corporation will absolutely do.
This kid can pretty much kiss the next several years of his life goodbye.
Guys, let's not looks past the fact that Smedley is also a victim. They did some pretty cruel shit to him and his family. You would be angered as well, I can't blame him for what happened, I too wanted to play Planetside, but even though he voicedid his thoughts, he did not ddos the block.

The bomb threats were too much imo, but the Ddosing and doxing is legit. SoE/Daybreak are a piss poor company with bad customer service, unstable service, Bad games and just a general disregard for their consumers needs and or wishes. Imo any company that does not cater to their customers needs in a respectful fashion and or does not produce a quality product, despite charging for one, deserves some harassment.
Just one more reason why Smedley should be fired. I wonder how much revenue is being lost while their games are down, how many labor hours wasted and private contractors paid to help them fix this mess. All thanks to Smed's big mouth.

I wonder will Smed be punished (legally, not by DDOS) for what he wrote, clearly trying to influence/interfere with justice system, not to mention publicly spoken insults (to a kid...) such as "peace of garbage", "little dirtbag", just to pick a few. (I know he won`t be, and I guess USA laws are quite flexible in that regard to what one can write publicly).
Smed's a PvPer at heart. Trashtalking goes with the territory.
It wouldn't surprise me if it was ever revealed that he's one of those general chat trolls in whatever games he plays (just for the fun of it).

Just a 2 year suspended sentence fro credit credit fraud and costing millions in damages to businesses he messed with?
Perhaps they should lock him up for 200 years like they do in the good old USA. Sorry but the US doesn't dictate how other countries run there criminal system.
So true though that goes both ways. I was thinking that it was a shame he didn't live in one of the more "heavy handed" countries.

I don't entirely disagree with the prison system over there. I just don't think the amount of time he'll spend in one being forced away from computers (hopefully he doesn't have access to one) was adequate.
I agree the response is ridiculous. The point is that you don't antagonize people who are prone to 'go off the deep end.' People don't always deserve what they get, but a little prudence goes a long way.

i believe they should be judged by both their own country and the country they are affecting. They are shutting down american companies so they should be trialed by america. My opinion.
sad to see some inteligent posters hating on smed in this case, his family that have nothing to do with it were exposed, his father was disrepected and i doubt smedley was alone in that plane... someone could have a heartstroke or worse, what this boy did was terrible.

And that justifies a public challenge to his assailants? That is just irresponible, to his business and his family.

Why give away your intentions and make it difficult for you when you can "keep quiet" and hit them in a more meaningful way when they least expect it.

Trolling is a fine art, while Smed is...let`s say he is bit too straightforward for it. Anyway, If DDOS goes on, he might soon be trashtalked by his Russian overseers, as just a natural part of incoming PvP sessions

it his right to do so and crap like this must be made to the public.
No matter how much control and power you think you have it's just an illusion. Computers will always be vulnerable to some kind of an attack. There is no stopping this kind of behavior. The Internet is still the wild wild west. Government and big companies will try and take over and control things. In the end everything will crash and burn because of some hacker. Learn to mind your manners and be respectful to others.
So just because he said what he thinks, he deserves to have his companies games taken down for a long period of time? No. The kid who did those attacks or at least was part of them deserves way more than just 2 years. All of Lizard Squad needs to be taken down. I thought Lizard Squad were gone after the other hacker group Finest Squad found all of their information and posted it on their website for everyone to view. Including pictures of their houses and parents and schools. It was crazy.

Anyone who has had to deal with identity theft knows it can wreck your life. I hope these little kiddies spend serious time in prison.

lol,
Taunting people who can make your life difficult is pretty stupid. What next? A little jab at ISIS.
