Multiple accounts question/poll

I have not seen this topic if it has been discussed so my apologies if it is a duplicate.

I am wondering how others feel about multiple accounts in the same game by the same player. My position is not firm but I tend to think it is a bad idea.

In my experience it seems to deter interaction with other players and so does not seem to be a good idea to me. The person with two or three accounts doesn't really have any need for the other players many times and sort of create their own isolated world.

I fully understand why some would do this but isn't a big part of MMO's to be a part of a community and interact with that community?

Would like to hear your views/thoughts on this.

If the game is designed for it, why not?- But in a normal game where the second account is used just to work around game rules, this is not acceptable IMO - it is against the rules of fair play beside the fact, you have mentioned, that it might support unsocial behavior also.

I'm fully in favor of anyone that is silly enough to try to gain an advantage by paying twice what I pay. They lose in any case. I can respect those that 2/3/4/5box in an mmog though, that does take a slight bit of skill. I have always had two accounts in the MMORPG's that i've played but only cause my girl plays too... :)

I wouldn't worry too much about their interaction within the games community, or lack thereof. Seems to me that anyone that has that much free time to 2+box an MMORPG probably is lacking in social skills already and wouldn't have much to offer any community anyway.

They pay for it, what business is it of mine?

As long as they can't run them both at the same time from the same machine in a PVP game like EVE where groups matter, then who cares? How is it hurting anyone? I don't understand why someone would care other than just being jelous that they can't pay for 2 accounts.

Well, the OP's reasoning for disliking those who 2+box is a little odd imo but he has a point.

As it's been stated, the main reason that peopel 2+box an MMORPG is to gain an advantage over others. But I'm still with the, if they want to spend twice as much as me to beat me in an online game let them.

I feel the same way about people that buy their in game money off a website. More power to them, losers(imo).

    I do it.

Sometimes I line up all my charcters next to each other and busk.

You can do some funny things.

    you can mule items.

You can hang out in town and spam for more teamates while you are actually inside the instance.

You can use follow mode and auto fire to have your own personal healer.

    you can talk to yourself.

I buy multiple accounts so that my friends can play with me when they visit. Once the money is spent, I like to get as much value from it as possible.

I don't mind people who are running multiple accounts if they are actually playing those accounts. Some of the most fun I have had was in EQ playing the main assist warrior while also playing the backup healer in my group. I have also had multiple accounts on DAoC where it is pretty much a requirement for a stealther to have a buff bot in order to compete. I didn't like it and would have prefered they offer an option to needing a buff bot.

On the other hand, I despise those who do things like control mulitple characters using one controller in order to multiply their power without drastically decreasing their reaction times. There are a few in DAoC who run multiple charcters who mirror each others moves and therefore put out multiple times the damage a single character can. And while I applaud their determination, I despise the fact that they are basically running their characters with a macro in order to do that damage. If they played them seperately, then I wouldn't have any problem with it.

If people want to buy multiple boxes/accounts then let them. I'd rather subscribe to multiple games but to each their own.

It only really becomes a bad thing if people start botting one of the accounts to auto-gather, provide support etc. Not that botting on a single account is any better though.
