[Column] EVE Online: Chronicles of a New Eden - The Devil Went Down to Querious

The Reavers were never meant to take ED-L9T. They were harassers and skirmishers sent by The Imperium, the largest of EVE Online's player-made coalitions. While The Imperium was locked in a deadly conflict against rival alliances Darkness and The Kadeshi, the Reavers were sent behind enemy lines, to Querious, to wreak as much havoc as possible.

Reading about EvE is always so exciting.

then you join a corp that is actually at war and you get told when to log on, what ship to use, where to be, and what not to do. when you are online you spend 90% of your time waiting, on post, for something to happen, or for your coalition to be ready, or for your commander to get his orders, and the rest 10% waiting for time dilation to let you fire you second shot in 2 minutes...... you disobey, or improvise, and you are kicked from alliance and put on KoS list.

pretty much exactly like the army.

You could  just play the game like YOU want it instead of being a lackey of others.

But it's easier to follow others, let them do the work for you and then blame them when you fail and die in a pvp game.

Blaming a 100% sandbox game for it's content....it's almost too funny...

Eve is a group game.  You could go solo but you'd be locked out of a lot of content or die a lot.

I knew one guy who started Eve, took off into dangerous space and quickly got podded.  After that he became a trader and never left the station.

    Very not true.

I play in big alliances for like 12y and I play very much solo.

It's all about knowledge and how to play.

It's easier to sit in a 300 man fleet and gank 20 players and complain of being bored.

I have more fun getting a ship and go roam solo, pick my fights so I rarely lose a fight unless I am in a yolo mood and say 'wth'.

Players who depend on others to hold their hands and can't play solo are called 'F1 grunts', actually very bad at the game.

These comments helped me pass on trying Eve again. Basically pay a sub for a solo game, or pay a sub to listen to a bunch of man children pretend they're Patton.

Exactly this. Also consider if you do join with a fleet be prepared to have 3+ hours of time to play, otherwise you will have to log out in hostile space and most likely loose your ship when you log back in.

Alliance scale pvp in Eve is always this:

    1) Lock the target(s) you are ordered to by your leader

    2) Press F1

    3) If you get attacked hit fleet broadcast button for reps.

    4) Wait.

All the waiting around for fleets to form and painstakingly jumping through 30+ systems and that is the best case scenario. Bored if you don't find a fight, and bored if you do.

Also consider eve is not in very good shape right now and is steadily loosing players and developers.

Another fail, after 1 month of trial you can be fully self sufficient and buy game time codes with ingame money from then on.

It's a sandbox and you can play anyway you like, but far as I am concerned the two worst ways to play Eve are in the big 0.0 alliances or this guy, the solo player.  Small corporations rock with everyone helping each other out.  I feel sorry for those that do otherwise.
