Star Citizen dev promises "incredible progress in the next few weeks"!

MrSnufflesMrSnuffles Member UncommonPosts: 1,117

Cloud Imperium Games director of community engagement Ben Lesnick said during a lengthy stream with German Twitch channel CRASH_Academy (via Polygon) that despite recent setbacks, Star Citizen backers are "going to see incredible progress in the next few weeks." He also briefly addressed the studio's ongoing conflict with 3000AD founder Derek Smart, who was recently banned from the Star Citizen community after unleashing a torrent of complaints about the state of the game and its $85 million crowdfunding effort.

This gon be gud!

Have faith!

My money is on weapons for the FPS module and special Armor. They have to monetize all their assets somehow.

    THIS -->

    http://www.pcinvasion.com/comiccon-brings-more-star-citizen-info-new-arena-commander-after-gamescom

"CIG are planning to show multiple ‘multicrew’ ships in action at GamesCom, and Arena Commander 2.0 will be released shortly after GamesCom concludes.

Arena Commander 2.0 will include a new, larger map for free flight testing to accommodate the larger multicrew ships. Chris Roberts says this is a game changer as they move them into the persistent universe part of the game.

Squadron 42, which is the single player game set in the Star Citizen universe, was described as the “entry point” to the game to learn the game mechanics. Roberts says that Squadron 42 is bigger than any Wing Commander title, mentioning that the script is currently around 670 pages long. He also claimed it will be more vivid and emotional that any games he’s done in the past. More details on Squadron 42 will be revealed at GamesCom next month."

Looking forward to finally test-fly my Constellation.

    Have fun

why are you pretending this isn't just all 'smoke & mirrors' for obvious vaporware? After all, this collection of Dunning-Kruger Effect RL examples know the truth.

Will be really nice if CIG change to a "show don't tell" stance.

If they start to show off the seamless combined flight and fps engine soon that will be good. If they just put out new iterations of what they ahve been already released, they are just showing us that Mr. Smart is indeed onto something.

Well, Derek Smart has never managed to release anything close to what Star Citizen was in it's initial funding scope so...

Having said that, putting out new iterations of various modules (or gameplay prototypes) shouldn't be construed with Derek Smart is on to something. It should be construed with other elements are not ready to be shown yet.

It's probably going to be a year before the backers see seamless anything as mentioned above (I'll be surprise if it's sooner).

Derek Smart's magnum opus was a single-player game called "Battlecruiser 3000AD", and it was legendary in it's day:

I don't expect SC will take 7 years before it launches, but if Squadron 42 is not in the hands of backers by the end of Q1 2016, then there's "cause for concern".

I will give CIG money the moment Squadron 42 is released.

CIG are planning to show... I think that's the only word worth taking note of. Wonder if Chris will announce when it'll be playable?

I am really excited about this in particular because as a game engine developer i know this is a task that is of epic proportions.

If they indeed manage to have players walking around in the ship while the captain is actively engaged in a fight, flying the ship then i will worship the ground CR is walking on.

My guess is that you can board the ship, take a seat/gunner position and you can switch that during the flight with a menu. You will not be able to walk around the ship during flight.

There is a technical reason why this has never been done before so i am very excited to see someone crack this problem and show it in action.

Its been done before. 10 years ago. Star Wars Galaxies - Jump to Lightspeed expansion.

    https://www.google.com/search?q=swg+space+combat&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8#q=swg+space+combat&tbm=vid

Walk in ships during combat. Repair damage. Man turrets. Manage shields and droids.

Boarding only worked in roleplaying (you allowed the enemy on board for roleplaying).

Heck ... we had parties with 30+ people in an indestructible  pleasure yacht during PvP space combat between the rebels and The Empire. With band and dancers. With self composed music and choreography.

    Have fun
