Seriously, now whenever I try to play any other MMORPG I last about 5 minutes before thinking how much better WOW is. It's so much more polished in almost every way than anything else out there. This probably sounds like a fanboi post but I'm just being honest, waiting for a new PvP server to come out I figured I'd mess around with trial accounts for other games and it's just sick how badly they suck compared to WOW.

That happened to me when I tried a DAoC trial. I was like "Wow, this combat is really slow. WoW is better." I cancelled the trial later that night and went back to WoW
I can even play games with turn based combat anymore, which is odd, because I used to love them. It's like Blizzard has made my attention span equivalent to that of a hyper-active 10 year old boy.
Heh...having a 60 on WoW I can say i've given it a fair chance...I'm not trying to flame but you were being honest and so I must, I found WoW had good player-to-world interaction wich I liked,Solo friendly wich I also liked But the game lacked the feel of adventure.. and at 60 I became bored very fast. I think it brings nothing new to MMORPG's...I just think its a well polished version of current MMORPGs...nothing groundbreaking. The community is one of the worst i've seen...seems like its got a kiddy community hehe. I think its a decent MMORPG...but just wasent right for me. Then again everyones different.

I know what you mean!
I tried out various MMORPG after WoW and I can never last more than a few days. May be if I kept at it, I will see the game's good points.. but bah! I just couldnt stand long enough.
That's why I'm trying out a completely new kind of MMORPG, EVE Online. It's rather laid back and boring.. but hopefully it will be the one MMORPG I'll like after WoW.
Vanguard seems promising but I need something while waiting for that game.
Atm, I'm currently playing both WoW and Eve. Between the two, I'm gladly getting my mmo fix. ><
Both games are fairly different, and I consider both really great games. Eve offers an open environment where I can develop my character. Whereas, WoW offers an immediate fun factor.
I'm keeping an eye on Vanguard myself, but I think I'll let Brad and team have a year or so prior to checking it myself.

Oh, cruel fate, to be thusly boned. Ask not for whom the bone bones. It bones for thee.
Same reason I DON'T play WoW, I was spoiled playing SWG as my first MMORPG, now when I look at WoW it looks so small time, no housing or player run towns or multiclassing ? But yes, WoW is even polished though how linear it is, that is why it's so addictive to many people.

And I don't want to hear anything about "I don't believe in vampires" because *I* don't believe in vampires, but I believe in my own two eyes, and what *I* saw is ******* vampires! "
WoW has spoiled us all and is far ahead of it's time compared to all the competition, for me it's the combat system, everything just feels engrossingly immersive and like someone else said, it beats the pants off any of the turn based ones. The leveling is fairly fun and exploring all the new areas is always a loving treat.
I don't think any game will match WoW unless they make a clone of it (but a bit more of an effort than SWG NGE thanks!) The next game i am looking forward to is warhammer online, it's basically going to be DAoC2 set in the warhammer universe. All the devs actively play WoW so i would imagine they are going to take the most fun things from that and add them to WAR.
The only thing I think WoW is missing is a larger social element. Sometimes I want to kick back from grinding, and go somewhere peaceful. I think adding player housing to the game would serve my need in that way. And, from rumors I've heard, player housing is currently a big topic in the Blizzard offices and will most likely make a debut in an expansion or patch.
Nice Work, IMO.
Yes, BUT in that case it will be instanced, so it won't be all that great, hardly think WoW will fit as a sandbox game in the first place.

Yeah, but I'd prefer it instanced. Otherwise they'd have to build a whole nother continent just for player housing. And that would pretty much kill any credibility of WoW sticking to it's story and lore. Sandboxes are great for innovation, but they kill any pre-determined backstory. That would be one of the many nails in SWG's coffin.
I haven't played WoW for more than a few minutes at a time on my friends account but I have played TONS of mmorpgs. I can be the first to tell you that everyones first mmorpg will spoil them. If you played swg, everquest, UO, then you will find things that you miss about them. That doesn't mean they were better games it is just what you got used to. If you play something else that is differeny you will most of the time have a biased opinion.
I am a little different I have a problem getting into an mmo because I see all these flaws even if it was my first mmo. SWG was my first, played it for over a year but saw so many flaws from the beginning so I had to leave. Alot of people stayed with the game until the end because they loved it like many players will love wow from now on. I haven't subscribed to wow for a number of reasons. It hasn't got player housing, player ran cities, pvp that actually matters and effects the world, there is no risk in pvp, I was turned off by the graphics (this is personal opinion). I will give the game credit were it is due. The game is extremely smooth and polished like many people have said. That is about all I can give it. There is nothing ground breaking but the game is a nice collection of many different mmo's that came out very polished.
I recently started playing everquest 2 which is also a nicely polished game. If you have never given it a good try the combat is very smooth. You better have a good rig to attempt and run it though. (3700 amd 64bit, 1024mb ram, 6800gs) will run it smoothly with the graphics turned almost all the way up if you know how to set the graphics correctly.
lol im similar but i dont judge a game untill i have played minimum 1 week every day minimum 3 hours :P
then i compare it to Guild Wars = WoW
Seriously, I'm in the same boat. I've tried Guild Wars, Eve, Ryzom, Final Fantasy, and Everquest 2 and they just don't even come close to WoW. We are all ruined, someone actually made an MMO that is fun and for the player, not the designer(s) who made it.
Guild Wars is the only one that comes close to wow in fun factor, but it's pretty spartan compared to Wow, but at least it's not costing money each month.
Everquest was the worst, no wait Ryzom was the worst, no surely Final Fantasy was... oh heck who cares.
Everquest 2:
Lets see, ugly character models (I mean really funny looking wax dummies with fat-ass hips and dorky walks), the newbie area is a like playing in a cave, the monsters aren't that impressive, logon process is annoying, being nickle-and-dimed for all the features that could be setting precidence. oh... and the cincher.... the game has major issues with NVidia 6800 GT's cards, which is funny cause they supposedly have a very close relationship with NVidia. Sony clearly has the pay structure in place, they just forgot the game. Oh.... the intro is a video of a book turning pages... nope, I'm not making this up.
Ryzom:
omg... the controls! It's old and dated. you can get killed by dandelions for frak sake. (not really, but how about kittens?!)
Eve:
This game is really interesting, only thing it lacks is an honorary degree for figuring out the economics.
Final Fantasy:
It's old, dated, and very spartan. I also thought the controls were really bad. There sometimes really pointless NPC dialog that just doesn't convince.
I like people downing eq2's graphics when they are by far the most advanced on the market. I have been playing it for awhile now and I will tell you that the combat system is very similar to WoW's but eq2 has more quest, more high end raiding content, and they have already got 2 expansions on the market so????lol explain how it is so bad without using vague personal opinions about graphics.
WoW is a soloers wet dream.. until 60. I'm a mix between soloer and grouper. WoW just doesn't have a grouping game. It goes from solo to raids. Apparently, it works.
I actually enjoyed WoW's graphics/combat system way more than EQ2's.
Again that is personal opinion no facts about it. WoW is a good game nothing wrong with it but the same goes for eq2 nothing bad about it either. I just don't like people to say alot of stuff that isn't true. These are the facts though eq2 has more content, and alot more high end raids, expansions coming out at twice the rate of blizzard expansions, and I doubt anyone can put their finger on what is better about WoW's combat or graphics besides the arguement thta they like them better personally. Doesn't hold up in court dont' see why it should here lol
I find WOW's grapix to be cartoonish. Ive never played EQ2, but the from the screenshots its seems to be more anime. My first MMO was FFXI and it was a challenge compared to WOW. Ill admit that when I came to WOW I was having a blast being able to solo if I wanted and not being LFG for an hour or 2. The combat system was user friendly (no macro's) and the traveling was quicker, particularly in the earlier lvl's. However, the challenge of FFXI did spoil me. When you are in a party in FFXI that knows what their doing, its far more satisfying than any grouping WOW. The community is immature beause WOW is a begginers wet dream. I bought my younger cousin a copy and he loves it.
I dont know if I will go back to FFXI or not mainly because of their ruined enconomy, but I suppose I am a another WOW refugee looking for a challenge once again. Vanguard looks promising.
I guess I don't see how, if WoW is SOOOOOOOOOOOO great why you went playing other games... wouldn't it have been more fun to... keep playing WoW... I play WoW occasionally but am starting to prefer other games 'cause I got bored
I've been feeling the excact same way, WOW got rather boring for me after finishing most of the end-game content such as the Molten Core, and I guess I just got fed up with the fact that one has to sit at the computer every single night doing the same thing, and in the day times, one couldn't do much but like grind stuff. What WOW is missing is solo content and content for smaller groups when you reach level 60. Cause at level 60, theres very few things to do.
I have myself been around, trying out Lineage 2, City of Heroes and a ton of other MMORPGS, and I feel the same way, they just don't have the smoothness, they are just not WOW. I've decided to try out EQ2 right now, though I'm mostly waiting for Vanguard, Darkfall, Chronicles of Spellborn and LOTRO.
Meanwhile, my luck is that TES: Oblivion will be out next month, I know it is not a MMO but still, it will be great.
Personally I started out again on WOW, and I'm playing a little more casual, which suits me pretty okay, and I'm looking forward to patch 1.10, where they'll add some more of the above mentioned solo / smaller group content, so I have something to look forward to.
Otherwise if EQ2 fails me, I'm probably gonna try out RF Online which sounds pretty nice to me.
Sure is a good way to enjoy MMORPG's. The traditional MMORPG but with better gameplay and the easiest to use ever UI ever ever made, and the extremely deep and long space outdoor PvP team war game.
I just wish EVE wasn't P2P.
