[Column] World of Warcraft: Warcraft Movie First Look

SBFordSBFord Former Associate EditorMember LegendaryPosts: 33,129

Thought it seems that all things in Azeroth are quiet as we wait for news on the next expansion, that doesn't mean the IP is resting on its laurels in other media. In this week's column, we finally get a good look at the upcoming Warcraft film and take a look at other Comic Con announcements.

Underwhelming to me too honestly. As a Horde member I have to say focusing so much on the time when the Horde wasn't quite united and our home wasn't quite coming together yet doesn't really appeal to me. Orgrimmar and Undercity are just as important to the story as anything the hyoomanz have done!

I would have watched this about 2 years ago and prior and they could have grabbed my attention right when WoD released, today though I'm not interested, it's a bit disappointing because I used to like this game and everything surrounding it, I'm disappointed because I no longer have that level of excitement when it comes to warcraft. I think these past 3 expacs have damaged my view to much.

well seeing how the movie wil deal with the first war... (and i am sure that there are sequels planned by the studio should this go well.)  Focus kinda have to be on the events of the first war... =)

Now once can argue that the fans would have liked a WC3 movie more... But this is more for the rest of the world to get caught up.

This have been a good conversation

Looks good to me but I dont really consider the fly through an actual trailer. More or less a crumb to keep the movie in the minds of fans.

I don't get the complaints.  Starting the film franchise with WC1 makes perfect sense.

for it to really be a franchise, it needs to be successful despite whatever others say (unless they already announced Warcraft 2 movie officially, otherwise....i only heard the director planned sequels but no official announcements). for it to be successful, focusing on a better/more popular timeline makes it easier. they could just focus on rise and fall of Arthas or something.

    my top MMOs: UO,DAOC,WoW,GW2

most of my posts are just my opinions they are not facts,it is the same for you too.

um, this would be a perfect window of opportunity for blizz to work on a new engine mmo-called 'warcraft'

if they dont see this on their horizon-then they are truly blind and out of touch with their market.

Recognizable as Stormwind, but the layout of both the city and the land has many variations from when I played WoW.

Lost my mind, now trying to lose yours...

I am pretty sure the WoW Stormwind is completely different than the Stormwind from the time period the movie takes place. Someone tell me if I am wrong.

That's because the majority of fans will be World of Warcraft fans, not the original Warcraft RTS players.

Wouldn't it be an excellent investment if they simply re-used all the amazing world assets they have created for the movie in a new WoW MMO.

Throw in some VR, a colostomy bag and you'll have the next generation of introverts rotting in their seats!

You all know this wasn't a proper trailer, right?  It's mostly their post production work showing the horde side of things to a "focus" group which is what Hollywood considers people who attend the comic cons.  The "real" trailer, the one to judge whether you want to see it , or are impressed by it or not, is coming in November.  For me, all this footage showed was stuff we already know, basically the horde's beginnings and them coming to Azeroth.  All of this has been expounded upon in the games, books, comics and other lore that permeates the IP.  Also, movies go through many editing processes between now and release, you know what me MMOers call polish.  ;D

As long as the pacing is done right and we get equal share of human and orc storylines, this should be a great origin movie for a hopefully long franchise of movies.

Looking great, feels like Wow world already. Sure for alliance. :-) I guess they wanted to show first civilized part of wow to world and not mud. :-)

Was that it?  Just a minute or so of a bird flying over somewhere??

    Holy crap..

Love being able to look around on that flightpath video - First flightpath I took in WoW is what hooked me... Seemless world - no loading really and can jump off any ledge (unlike Final Fantasy). First flightpath my woman took hooked her too, and having a partner who understands your gaming fetish is awesome. Thanks Blizz!

I didn't watch the flyover, but I did see the leaked preview and it looks good. I think it will do well at theaters and probably breathe more life into WoW especially if they do some tie-ins and cross promotion stuff. All of this despite the WoW bashers out there, this will be a successful endeavor for Blizz.
