This is the number 1 reason why mature mmos cannot attract new players. It impacts various games on many levels. It breaks world pvp and even instanced pvp because few mmos offer balanced game play against max or higher level characters. It ruins all open world pve balance. It destroys the leveling curve and excludes new players from much of the content as designed as the population swings heavily top end because they do not have the resources and assistance to compete.

Mmos effectively become a game of exclusion as servers and even phased servers because the play ground of the top end players. All ofthis is enhanced by the stripping of community mechanics and focus on single player experience. New players only get in the way because of their lack of experience ... they cannot keep up with the speed of game play in all areas of the game. Remember that the game was not designed for such rush tactics but it becomes one never the less.

This is a product of bad game design.  Players will always do what players do: they take the path of least resistance and developers do nothing to correct this because it would change their entire game. These games are at fault at their very foundation.

It amuses me when players say mmos evolved into this. No they did not. They were deliberately created this way to funnel players into them and have the process repeated over and over again. Nearly every mmo then alters their game through expansions allowing faster and faster leveling to try and solve the new player problem and to cave into the long time player's demands of leveling alts fast.

This cycle will repeat forever until developers change the very core concept of the mmo. Is it a single player mmo? Is it an end game mmo? Is it sandbox world with heavy interdependence between players? What are the principle foundations of the mmo that are NEVER to change?

The evidence clearly shows most developers have lost or never had any core foundations to their game. Game play alters time and time again to the point of alienation core groups of players old and new. Problems like this will exist forever until developers gain an actual vision of what they want to create. Jumping from cash flow to cash flow at the expense of the game itself will cycle us through these common mmo problems from here to eternity.

    You stay sassy!

    Just not true.

The last patch even vastly nerfed level 80s downleveling.

A level 80 needs full ascended to even have get match max stats a real low level player could get in greens or yellows (whatever is the highest rarity).

Many of the superior sigils work at the sigil potency matching the level area.

Edit: Here, I decided to do a quick graph in Excel.

World bosses never took so long to kill.

    Currently playing: GW2
Going cardboard starter kit: Ticket to ride, Pandemic, Carcassonne, Dominion, 7 Wonders

i dont see the problem here. High level characters get scaled down in lower level areas and become a huge help to actual lower level players and even better, it makes the low level areas more populated.

Unlike other games "cough" WoW "cough" where max level characters actually RUIN lowe level player experience by one shooting them for no reason.

I didn't said you can't, but more like you shouldn't. Due to scaling you can't solo mini bosses like Queensdale Troll or Wasp, but the rewards aren't that good either. There are better things to kill.

So you are one of those with a disturbed mind that thing they are strong because they bully players 90 levels lower, but when someone of their level shows up, run like beaches to the safe neutral terrain of Ratchet.

    1. Who are you to tell me what is important to kill?
    2. My best PvP experience ever (years ago during BC+LK) was in Warcraft is open world PvP on a PvP server on the receiving end as well as giving end.

    What else...?

    1. You rolled need on gray trash because it was an upgrade to weapon or gear.
    2. After winning your need roll weapon you realize that you have a weapon training of  0 as you are trained with sword and not axes.
    3. You wiped on trash mobs and it was fun.
    4. You spent an hour walking to an instance and another hour trying to find a healer.
    5. You fought as a level 20 in PvP against level 50's, got your ass kicked and it was fun.

Once again who are you to tell anyone how they should play.

I quit doing area completion dailies unless there is a world boss, or specific event chain that I will take part in like Svanir Shaman, or Modnir Ulgoth.  I'll complete my daily through WvW instead.

All of my posts are either intelligent, thought provoking, funny, satirical, sarcastic or intentionally disrespectful. Take your pick.

I get banned in the forums for games I love, so lets see if I do better in the forums for games I hate.

I enjoy the serenity of not caring what your opinion is.

I don't hate much, but I hate Apple© with a passion. If Steve Jobs was alive, I would punch him in the face.

everything said is just more that makes this game better. how is any of this not good? and theres no way low lvls are having a hard time completing anything or lvling. all this just makes the world come even more to life... imo

ah for Gods sake, I really dont understand, why do you wrote such long article about basicaly primitive game mechanics, BIG ZERG of 80s (BERSERG mainly) characters are running over maps ONLY, and just ONLY when its 4 quests DAILY ON THAT MAP, doing that daily with zerg and full maps take MAX 20 MINITS, running lvl 80 champ train is different things.

So, if you want enjoy PvE without zerg, just wait few sec, when zerg is gone, wait 10 min for npc respawn and continue enjoying PvE, where is problem ??

but i agree with your point about bigger difference between 4daily quest with higher lvl, I dont have problem doing daily in 80lvl zones, and you can switch to your low lvl alt anytime you want...

I would rather have people always spamming events, than never have any high levels around. It makes it easier while leveling to consistently have people to do the events with even if it is a zerg you get to try them out.

Must be a slow day for MMorpg.com staff. Maybe they should start covering other things.

There is only one reason for the lvl 80 zerg....... THE LACK OF ENDGAME CONTENT!  I really like GW2 but I log in to do dailies and when I done I log off .... why? Because there is a lack of endgame. There are other games I play that have some type of event going on all the time and always seem to add a new something or another, but does GW do that???? NO they just keep messing around with the build system.... I guess they think thats endgame content....

"Yet here we are, the greedy level 80s stealing everything for ourselves.  New players see a world with population, which is good, but they're not getting a good representation of the game if every bit of content is trivialized by roving hordes of level 80s."

And in as little as 2 days, these new players are level 80's, doing the exact same thing as everybody else. Stop coming up with stupid ideas to make the game harder. Nerfing max level chars on starter maps did nothing but make it boring. Ramping up the challenge level at events will not do anything except stop players from participating, simply because the reward is not worth the effort. SB is at times surrounded by champs due solely to the number of players in the area. So no wonder most people who attend the event just stand in front of SB and spam the 1 key instead of wasting time trying to avoid the champs so they can destroy the portals. There is no point in trying to fight a champ solo, hell even the vets here can down you rather fast if you are not watching what you are doing. Especially the ones that have the invunerable buff!

I have been complaining about this in game but nobody seems to care :(

  • gw2foolgw2fool Member UncommonPosts: 164

Most of these events require the player to kill just 3 or maybe 4 things to get the gold reward. I frequently do low level events and kill the first wave and then move on to other content because I do not need to do anything else. Escorting Mona and her bull is a prime example of this. The first wave is all you need to get max reward.

Pity the drops are not worth picking up!

    The Infestation of Level 80s

This title implies that the majority of players should not actually be playing the game!

Infestation is something that is seen as negative.

The game is designed so that the majority of players can play on any map that they desire to play on, so why start complaining when they decide to play.

The argument that max level players are stealing kills from low level players is irrelevant when you consider that low level players will be max level players in as little as just two days. What then, they also get treated like an infestation that is not wanted. No wonder the developers are having trouble getting people to play!

Maybe they should just scrap the whole idea of down scaling, this would illimenate the infestation problem!
