LOL are you serious? What screens are you looking at(are you sure its even the right game?)... The graphics have come a looong way since the older shots were released, and they are stunning IMHO.. Here check this page for more recent ones:
But besides, graphics don't make a game (although Vanguard brings the goods with its graphics too, IMO), so check out the FAQ to see what "the big deal" really is:

I don't mean to sound rude to anybody, but I just have not been able to see the hype. Dunadurium, your link did help change my mind on the graphics, although the character skins are still looking a little strange.
Overall, my question is why are you all so excited for this game? Personally it doesn't look especially different in any major respects from other games, so why are you excited about it?

i don't know what your true intension's are coming to this forum, it does seem like you are just trying to troll. but if you truly are wanting to know what the hype is about you should read the FAQ http://www.silkyvenom.com/pages/faq.php
from what i have seen and heard, it has graphics on par with games being released today, so i don't know what you mean by saying it has "1993" graphics.
alot of us want a game for hardcore pve, that reminds us of oldskool eq1 (before soe got ahold of it) but at the same time we want new and exiting next generation features to be added to it, witch IMO they are doing.
so w/e I'm not going to name off all the sweet features that vanguard has....if you are really interested in finding out read the faq.....if not oh well.

I prefer these graphics to the cartoony big shoulder pads of WOW and the similiar Asian inspired Huge swords, androgynous avatars and big eyes. Many games seem to be copying the WOW or Final Fantasy look such as Spellborn, Tabula Rasa, and RF Online. I also prefer the focus this game has on being challenging, having a seamless world with no zones or instances, boat, horse, and flying player owned mounts, Player owned housing, shops and taverns (non-instanced), smarter AI, and in depth Lore. As mentioned read the FAQs at Silky Venom and see how this differs from EQ2 and WOW.
The game world is indeed beautifull and well crafted, i go as far as saying that while EQ2 atempted to recreate a more "realistic" fantasy style with their graphics, they failed miserably compared to Vanguard.
The vanguard world just breathes style and atmosphere, if they can improve performance, this will be one killer gfx engine.
The Graphics in EQII, although nice, just give my PC a hard time. I can play everything from BF2 to Call of Duty2 to L2 and WoW. In fact I haven't run into a game yet that give me problems....then there is EQII. I gotta tweek it and adjust it and fiddle with it. Then when I log back in sometimes its all reset. Then I gotta spend 5 minutes or so fiddling with the settings again. I hope Vangard is a bit better when it comes to this.
Other then the Graphics, EQII is an OK game, nothing all that special. I really want a game that has the quality and stability of WoW but doesn't look like a Bugs Bunny cartoon. My dwarf looks like Yosemity Sam and the night elves look like the old Indians from that era of cartoons. (I'm letting my age show lol) If Daffy Duck walked into Ironforge it wouldn't even faze me.

At first, I was going to flame you as a Troll, but then I remember something: I've read a LOT about the game.
I'd suggest going to it's site and reading the FAQ. This is going to be an incredibly complex & engrossing game, with goal of not become tedious & boring. Here are a few of the features I like:
Combat- Roll based, but well done, with interactive movement and counter attacks.
Skills- You can learn things by quests, not just getting rewards.
Crafting- So far, the system seems meaningful, but not tedious.
Player housing / Cities- I come from a SWG fan backround. These are a ton of fun.
Good Vendor system- Not time consuming like Galaxies.
Real-Time Travel- Creates a real-feel to the world. No warping around to travel.
Incredibly Varied Races/Classes- For example, each cont has it's own "tribe/race" of humans.
Player-Owned Mounts & Boats- That will eventually be usable in combat.
Great Detail of game play- For example, one Dev said they would like to see the ability for a Druid to create winds that would allow a sail boat travel faster. Another example would be the types of different horses, and that armoring your horse slows it's speed.
The Caravan & Fellowship systems- These are too complicated to explain here, you'll have to look them up.
Granted, I loved the complexity of SWG, but I also hated the tedious things like loading vendors. These Dev's seem to get it. They want a complex, rich, game that doesn't become a tedious mess.
The community & Dev's seem to have the right dirrection, the games looks great & the combat has been said to be a BLAST. So far, this is looking like the best choice for gamers that want to live in & effect the world, rather than logging-on & looting it.
I'll start my own SWG... with Black Jack... and Hookers!!!
My experience with Star Wars Galaxies has been nothing but traumatic with it's similar 2 frame per minute graphics, which is what I'm worried about, and all the bugs. Personally I like the cartoony graphics of World of Warcraft, as it's appropriate to some of the crazy themes in the world and I find them to be much more immersing than quasi-realistic graphics. Shigeru Miyamoto, the guy who developed Super Mario Bros, knew a lot about this. But mainly due to the fact that a lot of game's realistic graphics just aren't realistic enough, because they tend to focus way too much on polygons and not enough on meshing textures to bring it all together. Not every game, but most that even attempt realism.
Regardless, some of what you all are saying does sound cool, especially the player owned boats. Assuming it's really going to be that way. If it doesn't take me 15 minutes to load a pub chair, I'll probably give it a shot.

It's called personal preference AA. I see you have still been unable to grasp that though.
In War - Victory. In Peace - Vigilance. In Death - Sacrifice.

I find the graphics not that good. I mean, they are nice, yet some models plainly suck (like the drow). The landscapes look good, but need some work. Unreal 2.5 engine is outdated. I hope the SS don't do justice.
Originally posted by zorothez and yes it is good but its only got 7 MONSTERS!!! cmon add sum more plz!!!
LMAO, what? where did that come from...
Oh wait, was it from their monster index or whatever..
LOL don't worry, it will have plenty of mobs i assure you. Just look at their screenshots and you'll see many more than 7 even there.
And yeah WOW is really not that great of an MMO. If its your first game (im assuming here because of your age, sorry) then try some other games and you'll see there are plenty that are just as good if not a lot better. Just the opinion of a guy who has played many many of these games and probably knows, at least a little, of what he's talking about.

read this http://www.vanguardsoh.com/forums/showthread.php?p=1044304#post1044304 then come back and talk to me about the vanguard/soe fiasco.....
looks very similuar to eq2 wouldnt be suprised if it was on a modified version of that games engine

I thnk this game looks beautiful and can't wait to see it in action with grass and trees moving in the wind and all the different weather effects
