Lord of the Rings Online has a unique music system and battle weary players have taken a real liking to its nuances. ABC files number into the many thousands with music being played at any street corner and at all hours with genres ranging from Mozart, to Led Zeppelin. This could make for ripe event planning… Enter the fan-created event, Weatherstock!

    A nice fan event, yet I wish this game would die already as it has in the minds of many of the fans/original players. Hopefully a new attempt at a Lotr mmo does better.

    I'd still be playing if I didn't continually get disconnected from the server.

    I would like to see Lotr done on 2d, action-rpg. That's one way to keep the franchise going, maybe they will do a action-rpg with the Hobbit lore instead.

    LOTRO should have been a top 3 MMO from the beginning. Changes came along of which some were ill conceived yet its still a fun playable game for many. The music system is a very big hook for community based RP.

    Every year Weatherstock has run attendance has grown so the game is not dead yet.  I cant believe I`vve been playing 8 years already!

    Well, I downloaded the game again just so I can attend this event.

    I also want to check out the cosmetic weapon system.

    But then I take the opportunity for:

    Special treats? What are those? :) (one is the account-wide title I assume?)

    Been playing since closed Beta.  They never really advertised the game and never got out of first gear.  There were small problems at the beginning.  Towns were full of NPCs spamming and lagging everything, they used a percentage system instead of a flat number system so you ended up with items with bizarre stats like 23.56 DPS.  There has always been a frame rate stutter that they could never pinpoint the cause of.

     

    But all in all it is a solid game.  Not great but not terrible.  That has always been the problem with LOTRO.  Not great enough to succeed but not terrible enough to pull the plug on.  

     

    Mines of Moria is an all time great MMO expansion, but some of the systems in that expansion (Legendary Items, Radiance) kept the game down.  The two classes added (Warden, Rune Keeper) were all time great MMO classes but one of the totally undermined the base concept of the game (they never intended to put in a magic using class, but there is the RK launching fire and lightning).

     

    They had their NGE moment where they totally revamped the entire skill lines for every class, stream lining them.  And just like SOE, they didn't understand that they were never going to get any new players playing the game.  All they were doing was kicking people in the nuts.  Why is it these MMO developers cannot fathom that after a certain point, no new players come into the game so why piss off the vast majority of your customer base with unwanted changes?

     

    Anyway, the game should have died a few years ago, it will probably linger on another 7 years and keep some other company from attempting to make a better MMO with the same IP....just like SWTOR with the Star Wars IP, Neverwinter with that IP, Star Trek Online with that awful interpretation.

     

    I guess the only thing to do is log in and play my lowbie Hunter...which I am going to do right now..hehe.

    Vendors have about a hundred air drums from the Grand Stairs available to hand out. Each person will need mentoring in drum use to play them, so get mentored today or see who would mentor at the event.

    And weatherstock titles of which one wll have to pay attention to the MC in order to follow simple directions on how to apply for a personal title. This for brand new attendees.

    After the show and before final announcements set off yer fireworks.
