Off the top of my head, unofficial patch, no blocky faces, instant mining, better dialogue, people run inside when dragons attack and vampires, glowing unread books, I think maybe 1 or 2 more and thats it for now
Seems like a lot of work to get this game up to standards.

Yeah, and I'll rebut and say I disagree, game plays just fine without mods.
All mods do, with the exception of the one that fixes bugs within the game, is flavor it.
I've played the game many times without mods and then I have mods that add additional quests as well as additional "flavor" such as a "needs" mod, weapons and armor, etc.
@OP: your fine, just play the game with the dual wield assassin.
Like Skyrim? Need more content? Try my Skyrim mod "Godfred's Tomb."

last time i touched vanilla Skyrim was the first week of launch on xbox 360. Last time i played Skyrim on PC i had 100+ mods and a different game from when i bought it. Vanilla? never again.
Hey gang, getting ready to start a game and have some questions.
Thinking about dual wield/assassin type build, is this any good against random dragon spawns or would a 1h/shield be better ?
whichever build you make will be fun in Skyrim. I cant recommend anything other than dual katanas and the chaos blade (a two hand katana lol), plus lots of magic.
Anything you try will be fun. That game was made with fun in mind IMO.

It's how it is with all Bethesda games - gotta wait until the modding community actually makes it good.
This is actually true
Sure you can play the game unmodded, but your missing out on a hell of a lot of stuff if you do, probably the main reason this game was so successful on PC was due to the modding community
Well this is weird, I was dual wielding just fine, got to riverwood, made my swords into fine swords and now when I favorite them for quick menu they just don't work like they did before. Hit my hotkeys and its like they just keep switching hands. Yea and I don't think Sven likes me anymore either hehe

make sure that both swords are upgraded, that could be it.
I just tried to recreate your issue and wasn't able to.
I did notice that you select both swords during the upgrade process at the grinder but only one will be upgraded at a time.
Like Skyrim? Need more content? Try my Skyrim mod "Godfred's Tomb."
I used to think like that to about mods and it being a hassle. I was watching someone playing skyrim on twitch and they showed me how. Its like this, install mod manager, click click, look at all the mods, choose what you like and click away. I think I did all that in less than 10 mins with 7ish mods.
There are a few advanced type mods where you gotta read up on them but I haven't tried those.
If you start modding your game i suggest learn how to install what are importend mods if you dont the famous CTD and many other errors will happen
Watch some gohper video's for tutorials.
SKSE/TES5EDIT/lOOT are MUST HAVE use a MOD manager like NMM or Mod Organiser.
SkyUI-racemenu or ece Live another life.
There also mod to improve the children in skyrim so they don't have potatoe heads.
Also get rid of the Bethesda HD texture packs remove them use Skyrim HD 2K texture not only looking better also way more efficient.
Make sure mods work together don't use to many SCRIPTED MODS.
Don't use steam for mods it's terible.
Make sure to use latest versions everything up to date.
==>MAKE BACK UPs<== or you regret not done this.
Good Luck.
P.S i played Skyrim 2800 hours have on most occasions 250+ mods installed(i never used steam it sucks) so i know little bit about how to mod skyrim:)
I only use the steam mods and i've never had any problems with them, on the contrary they tend to be more reliable compared to other sources and are less likely to contain malware.
Thats not to say that they are the best ones available, but you should always scan any mods for malware etc before using them, common sense perhaps, but worth bearing in mind.
With mods its the best SURVIVAL GAME at the moment - another good standalone game would be Stranded Deep.
Many others are just multiplayer where survival is secondary and survival means rather to survive against other players inclusive offline raiding and destroying your base.
For Skyrim you need mods for weather effects i.e. you start freezing and can die in the cold, you can build tents and make fire, crafting winter clothings and so on...mods for hunger & thirst, a lot more around if you look for it.
I tried quiete a lot of so called "survival games" which are trendy in the last years since the dayz hype, but
actually Skyrim with mods is awesome since it provides so much content and quests in addition.
Bethesda vanilla games are mediocre. I know it, you know it and they know it. They do not live up to their potential. It is the modding community who turns a good game into an great game. If you thin vanilla Skyrim is fine, you simply have not played a modded Skyrim.
It takes about 5 hours to set up if you know what you are doing, and you have to get them in the correct order constantly loading after a few mods to see if any conflicts are there. You will be running with 200 mods or so, everything from texture fixes to massive game play overhauls, to new music. Once you get everything set up you then need to compress some stuff and that will take a little while.
Finally, once EVERYTHING is set up, and you have no crashes, then you start a new game......and it is worth it. No one who ever modded SKyrim goes back to vanilla Skyrim. There is a reason for that.
And that is the deal with Bethesda games. They release a massively buggy product, the community makes it better. It takes at least a year, probably two. It will be the same with Fallou4. Wait two years and the game will really shine.
I just started playing Skyrim again, and than I saw this post. Maybe I can get some help than.
When I look at all the mods its a bit overwhelming. So many seem to do the same, and a whole bunch of others seem to take the game away from what I want.
So, yes, I'm interested in making it a "better" skyrim. I don't need Thomas the Train dragons or batman suits .
I neither want anything that is a "cheat" such as getting an amazing kill them all weapon.
With the above in mind, does anyone have a great Playlist of mods (that also works well together)?
Its VERY challenging (very hardcore), very immersive and tons of content. It is also very stable. May need a higher end PC, or a mid-end for the low texture version that comes included. If you look at the screenshots, you'll see the characters all look vastly better too than the potato heads bethesda makes (at least skyrim is better than oblivion in that regard lol)
I highly recommend it
(edit: If you get it, I recommend removing dead_is_dead.esp...it makes it perma death. But its a bit buggy and doesn't always work correctly. You can try it if you are into that, but I removed it in my game.)

That's a gem. Really appreciate it Scavenger. You just enriched the game so much. Thank you.
Use a sneak mod. At max sneak, you can sneak past anything with full plate armor in Vanilla. At low sneak, anyone spots you despite using good logic. Sneak mods put a better balance on this.
Daggers are good for a stealth character, if you can manage to sneak up on someone. This is the hard part. I think you do something like x30 damage with the right combination. The problem is that you have to fight after that, I always felt dual wielders were not as good in melee because they could not block. With a stealth character, I typically used a bow.
I don't have any mod recommendations but I'll tell you about my first dragon kill in Skyrim.
After making it to the big city, I was asked to check out some outlying guard posts. I went around and made it to one at a stone tower ready to fall over. Suddenly this dragon appears out of nowhere and the npcs start running around in a panic proclaiming it's the end of the world.
I pull out my rusty sword and run in to attack the dragon. It tears me a new one and I run off to find the biggest twig I could to hide behind. In the mean time the npcs are still in a panic yelling it's the end of the world while they pepper the dragon with arrows. I try a couple of arrow shots and get a face full of flame for my effort.
Finally the dragon dies to all the arrows the npcs shot at it. I run up to the dragon to see if there's any loot. I get the loot and absorb the dragon's soul. In the mean time all those npcs that just killed the dragon are now proclaiming me to be the next dragon killer messiah.
I talk to the head guard, get rewarded and run back to the city's thrall and get more rewards. All for hiding behind a twig.

Skyrim is a true sandbox because it can be moded to anything you desire. Want survival? build it. Want extreme danger? Mod it. Want easy mode? Mod it. Want hardcore sex? Mod it. Want to kill everything in game and nothing respawn? Mod it. Want something completely balanced? Mod it.
Want to play it as it is. SNORE FEAST!
Want what is one of the best end game necromancer mods?
No rush to mod the game. Just playing it as it is is fine, then you get a direction of what mods you're interested in as you go along. I have modded the game out a lot but I don't regret the time playing it on vanilla at first.
Also a search for skyrim mods on youtube will show a lot of mod reviews.
