Cute MMOs

sunandshadowsunandshadow Member RarePosts: 1,985

How am I defining a cute MMO?  Maplestory, Wizard 101, Puzzle Pirates, and zOMG are cute MMOs.  So is the upcoming Dragomons game.  There are a ton of cute casual online games and mobile online games, and things like virtual pet sites, but they make up a fairly small percentage of MMOs.  Generally a cute MMO has colorful semi-cartoony art (whether anime style, western cartoon, or european cartoon).  Generally a cute MMO does not have horror elements unless they are handled comically or in a way suitable for children's cartoons on television.  Generally a cute MMO has more humor than a serious or dark MMO.  That's my definition for the purposes of this poll.

I'm asking this because I've been working on designing the gathering and crafting system for a cute sandpark MMO, but I'm not sure how big the audience for such a game would be, or what sort of traits might identify this audience, besides a pretty big percentage of female gamers and parents playing with kids.

I want to help design and develop a PvE-focused, solo-friendly, sandpark MMO which combines crafting, monster hunting, and story.  So PM me if you are starting one.

Cute games make me feel relax , so i don't hate it.

Also cartoon graphic more forgivable than realistic

Voted Anime cute.  I enjoy the style, the fun attitude of the characters, and am comfortable with art style in gameplay.

Not so much for other cutes.  Sometimes, to me, they feel more creepy and disturbing than fun.

Thats funny... I think you have to be kind of creepy to like the first, and the second is just silly.

I personally like the kemonomimi a lot better than the bobblehead cowboy, though there are other variants on the anime style that I like better.  I also like gothic-style cartoons a lot.

Yeah, that might not have been such a good example.

This from Aika isn't so strong in styling.

    I went with "don't care".

I don't really play any of them, but there's certainly a market for them. Closest I've probably come was Ragnarok and Wildstar, and I played neither for long.

I guess it all depends on my mood at the time and if the game has meaningful content. The best and most realistic artwork that developers can make won't matter if the gameplay isn't any good.

If it's good, I don't care what it looks like. Game mechanics/interesting/Funfactor ( to me) > graphics. BTW..

Currently playing Tree of Life quite a bit.

If you like that stuff, have you checked out Aura Kingdom? I think it looks like that but much better. The screenshots don't do it justice. Its not normally my type of game or graphics, but I've been hopping in and out of it for a few days.

Normally when I'm playing a video game the graphics usually go away after 10 or so minutes.

I love cute things and actually it does not affect me in any way as long as the game is fun.

I can't stand the anime cuteness anymore.. It has almost turned into child porn..

I've played (and enjoyed) some "cute MMOs", but do not seek them out.  Some I've tried were a bit too "cute" for my tastes.

For me, they are a much different experience where I do not look at them seriously at all.  Because of this, I really do not get "vested" in the characters I create.  Length of time playing them, or number of times logging back in can vary greatly, depending on my mood for the day.

I have found that some of them can be quite enjoyable when the adults in the game are parents.  They seem to be more common in the "cute MMOs" where they can play along side their children.

No... liking sexualized children in anime is creepy.

If in order to be a normal person you have to like creepy borderline animated child porn then I don't know what to tell you.
