now back to the best. I am back to FFXI till it shuts down , which will be quite awhile still on pc. Between this and DAOC(which has improved a lot, and UI is getting enhanced) I can t go back to the newer games. I wish SE would do a 2 for 1 sub and I would dabble in XIV which I found a lot better recently. That said because they don t have a 2 for 1 or at least both for $19.99 type thing, I ll stick with this and DAOC, the 2 best games of all time IMO.

I left this game so long ago even if I want to come back I am so far behind now. I played when it launched on the English servers on a US server although we had Japanese people on the server too I think it was one of the servers designated for the English speaking people but they were all open to all the players. I have good memories of this game.

XI was my first MMO, I loved every second of it. I really haven't thought about coming back, but you may have peaked my interest a bit, like the other post I will be so far behind (like a few expansions) but I accept the challenge! See you soon. :p

Although I enjoyed quite a bit of Adoulin, Abyssea damaged this game beyond repair. I've never seen a more ill conceived expansion in my 15 years as an MMO gamer. This game literally deserves to crash and burn for how terrible that expansion was and the worst part is you are still forced to go there quite often.

This game is a shell of its former self, it hold nothing of what it once was back in the lv 75 days. You can solo party now...

Cant wait till they finally put this game to rest, its just an embarrassment to what was in my opinion the best mmo ever.

And has anyone seen the mobile version looks awful and just wait till they throw in all the item shop crap. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-okZ_iAMHKc

If you wanna still play old school ffxi save your self the money and check out this emulator http://nasomi.com

It might be a shell of it s former self, but with most people I know, being able to solo/duo is what people want now. They have made that happen, and it s a great option to have. People still do a lot of end game stuff in groups, and theres still a lot of people out and about.

I wish they just did an updated version of the old work horse instead of trying to reinvent the wheel, crash, and then end up with an action MMORPG loving developer in charge of developing a brand new final fantasy game.  Yoshida just does not understand what made FFXI good, and seems to understand even less of the original games shortcomings.  Other than Abysea, everything I've seen developed for FFXI appears to be to it's benefit.  Also, it's less narrowly defined class structure makes playing certain jobs much more entertaining in that game than in a strait trinity based action MMO.

I mean, one could say the contemporary trinity is the distillation of the original, less organized class/job systems of yore, but it's sort of like D&D 4th edition vs Pathfinder.

I think you're mistaken.  Yoshida  most likely got his orders to take FFXIV where he did from the higher ups when he was handed the project.

Maybe 10 years ago you could call WoW style combat "action combat" but times have changed and action combat has a new completely different definition.  You're just going to confuse people using it like that.

Totally agree. FFXIV turned into a typical farm whatever name you want to buy new gear. This game updated would be awesome. That said, I still feel this game is the best around, and a lot of fun still.

I wish SE would consider doing a Time Locked Progression server, similar to the one EQ2 has going.  Maybe keep the current iteration of the game, like all the new soloing aspects but lock levels and content per expansion, I'd resub in a heartbeat.  I say keep the new solo stuff like the xp bonuses and companions, but those won't be needed as much if people are partying up like crazy.  Probably won't happen, but hey, loving my time in EQ2 at the moment and would love to relive FFXI as well.

That ain't the "mobile version" -- it's a standalone online game made up using ideas and references of the XI universe (which is only being released in Japan I believe.) The real mobile version of XI is being developed by Nexon, and will apparently look nearly identical to the current game, and hopefully not play too differently either.

Oh, and I disagree with pretty much everything else you said also.

It was my first MMO, but the technology is just too old for me to go back and play it.  Have good memories of the game, but that's where they have to stay, in the past.
