You probably read articles on our website because you like MMOs. As a matter of fact, I’d be willing to bet that you play them regularly. You might even have read something on this site today related to one of your favorite MMOs. I’m here to tell you that there are other things you could be doing with your spare time. mmorpg.com is my favorite mmo
5) They Suck
4) They are a grind
3) Nothing new, same old same old
2) Most are anime/eastern/ cutsie tootsie styled clones of each other
1) Most are Kickstarter, Early Access, in Founders, Pre- Alpha vaporware that cost money just to watch it crawl along in pre-alpha.
Not so MMO and RPG
Too expensive .
oh you guys actually read the article ? i have gotten to the point where i do not read the articles based on opinion
That's why I play Destiny.
Yep, it's still a grind. Yep, some players are assholes. Yep, it's addicting...
But there is no monthly charge, the gameplay is actually fun (really quite unmatched), many of my friends still play it, and I always feel like I have something to do, and what I am doing actually matters for the growth of my character(s).
And it has better graphics than most MMOs, and (unlike real life) when I get low on cash I can just go to the Speaker and exchange shards for glimmer!
Now, which one of you will adorn me today?
Maybe he isn't talking about his audience, maybe he is talking about all the other assholes. It isn't like there is a shortage of them. If someone reads that and thinks, "hey he is talking about me", they probably could work on stop being an asshole if it really bothers them.
Tons of great games to play old and new. (well mostly old if you are in to RPGs) So while an MMORPG can be a nice time killer from time to time, no need to let one dominate your time. You gotta spread the love.
The mmorpg scene for the last several years has basically been players paying too much and wasting time in shit games. Crappy graphics with ancient animations.
That being said
1. Quit paying for shit games so that maybe someday they get their act together.
Thank god this wasn't yet another badly written essay on why all the new MMOs suck. Although... that crowd will try to turn it into just that.
And to those of you offended because you think he caled you an asshole. It's not you he's talking about - it's those other guys... it's always those other guys.

Not really a truthful thread more of a very carefully selected choice of words thread.
There is only one reason i have lost a ton of interest and that is VERY cheap production value on these games.
Imo it really does come down to cost, you cannot build a Triple A game without a very large budget.I do however believe that you can build one for less than the 200 million i have seen spent. Some devs are just unorganized and waste a lot of spending on marketing/advertising flying around in jets to gaming expos etc etc.
Never forget 3 mile Island and never trust a government official or company spokesman.
Main reason for not playing MMOs at the moment:
There hasn't been a AAA MMO released for many years that advances the genre and is built for longevity.
You seem to be able to go for AAA clones, which can be fun but the fun tends to be fleeting, or niche MMOs which hopefully have some good ideas for advancing the genre but don't have the budget to pull it off correctly.
6. u need pay sub.
7. traveling is made slow in mmorpgs.
8.asian style in every mmorpg... almost every.
9. to get gear u need is lotto in raids.
10. u will be guild slave with guild raids, easy to replace if u dont do what they say.
I have to say I can't agree with a few of these.
MMO players aren't worse than general PvP players in my opinion. The foulness I used to hear in Net-cafes from FPS crowds has scarred me for life.
And Single Player games can be addictive as well (and take many hours to "complete" for achievement junkies)
And ANY activity that keeps you indoors until the Sun's rays haven't touched you for more than a week is 100% to be avoided (this obviously includes being kidnapped and held hostage)
Personally I play MMOs because they're easier to handle than Multiplayer modes on Single-player games (and are designed with multi-player in mind...usually...sometimes...hopefully). Luckly most countries aren't close to the Asian concept of playing games 100% of the time and living off social aid. This article probably works best for those addicts however
This is my favorite part, "Stop reading this on your phone, tablet..."
I promise nobody is reading this article on their phones or tablets, because your site isn't optimized for mobile devices.
+1
You can sum it up even with a single point...
There's currently no MMORPG outthere worth playing.
While all 5 reasons are very true and pretty much the standard, i'd like to stay on #4 a bit. Aside from the usual pnp love i was always a sprpg enthusiast. I was never really into mmos until a friend of mine bugged my a*#s for some time to try CoH. When i finally did i instantly fell in love with that game. There were multiple factors that made me enjoy it so much which i won't get into detail right now. The thing is that aside from CoH and, to a lesser point, Swtor i never really enjoyed another mmo as much. Despite the fact that i've tried quite a few since then, I still can't say i'm really into them. My point is that, aside from those two, i never had as much fun or got immersed into any mmo, as in games like Mass Effect, Fallout, Dragon Age, Baldur's Gate, Chrono Cross/Trigger or KOTOR.
The biggest problem with mmos imho is that, due to their "massively multiplayer" nature, their devs always try to cater to every single subgroup's preferences and demands(pve, pvp, hardcore, casual etc). And that usually results in mediocre games that are trying to accomplish everything while achieving truly very little. As much as i'm sad about it, i'll have to admit that unfortunately, the mmo fanbase, while being the driving force behind the genre is also it's biggest curse at the same time.
Your first point about death reminded me of the story of two guys getting into an argument online in an mmo. The argument gets heated and they agree to meet to settle things. During the fight one guy dies.

I really never thought games could led to such things.

WOW I NEVER KNEW I COULD STOP PLAYING! I THOUGHT I HAD TO STAY LOGGED IN ALL THE TIME! THANKS OP!
But seriously though, way to be condescending. In regard to your "arguments":
5) Most things can be addicting. Alcohol, nicotine, sugar, a comfortable bed...just because something has the potential for danger or addiction is not necessarily a reason to avoid it altogether. For example, your number 1, "real life." If MMOs are a problem for you, then don't play them, but don't come spouting your personal anecdotes and consider that having any weight.
4) Black or white fallacy - I play MMOs and single-player games. It doesn't have to be either-or.
3) People are assholes from time to time; some people play MMOs, therefore MMO gamers are assholes? Way to make a non-argument. Yes, MMOers can be jerks, but so can your boss, coworkers, police, drivers... Authority and anonymity are what tie into this; not the nature of it being an MMO.
2) Some people like grind (Eastern grinders). If you are feeling the grind, play less grindy MMOs or play something else altogether.
1) Black or white fallacy again - it's possible to play MMOs and not neglect one's real life. Also subjective, depending on what part of reality you're experiencing. Some people play to escape an otherwise shitty life.
In this day

This isn't a signature, you just think it is.
