Yet another butthurt tribes player. Guess what? SMITE is not going anywhere, it is not in decline and it has already amassed 9 million $ from players for 2016 SMITE tournament. SMITE is here to stay.

Shame, I thought they were announcing their revival of Tribes.

Seems these FPS "MOBAs" are the new rage. Battleborn, Overwatch, and even Battlecry (though the latter is MUCH more than 5v5).

Can someone just do me a favor and wake me when studios stop chasing each other?

I quite like this new FPS MOBA style that's being pushed out these days. Well, I say "new", I just mean "more popular these days than it was before" probably...

    RIP Smite.

Tribes: Ascend gets released, they abandon Global Agenda.

Smite gets released, they abandon Tribes: Ascend.

This new game gets released, they will eventually abandon Smite.

SMITE is neither GA, nor TA. GA and TA had bad community who jumped guns as soon as things started to go south, servers became low population within a week. what did you expect Hirez to do? Keep dumping cash on a game people don't play? SMITE is fine and it will continue to grow in future.

Forget the money. They're investing into..."this" not into Smite that's for certain.

Have you seen how miniscule Smite's patches became as of late? Remember Ravana release and Belonna release? One was UP and the other OP as fuck. What did they do? Mostly nothing. So forth so forth so forth.

Face it: HR will do to Smite when Paladins beta starts what it has done to TA when Smite released. It's in their nature lol!

Bullshitting has it's limit but i guess bullshitters don't. Without a doubt you are not playing SMITE, you are just here to post bullshit on hirez.

I feel sorry for Hirez but this game will not be able to compete with Overwatch. It's a shame really, they have been developing this game for a long time, ever since i started in beta of SMITE i found loading screen and logo of this game in their launcher icon folder. They really should have stopped, at least when Blizzard released Overwatch trailer.

I will give this a try.  It looks like it could be fun.  Only way to know is to play.  I'd love to see some of these MOBA mechanics of combat applied to a MMORPG-style world with story.

Good lord, the ignorance perpetuated in this thread is staggering.

To begin, SMITE is not going anywhere but UP. The player base grows  quarter to quarter, Hi Rez is investing heavily in developing the Asian regions and the South American regions, to get them to the same level as North America and EU.

Smite is Hi Rez's WoW, a steady and regular money-maker that they intend to grow as large as they can, while still maintaining a stable platform for competition and professional play.

Paladins is a side-game, something to help diversify the company, to give dev team members a breath of fresh air. It will be Hi Rez's version of a Diablo or a Starcraft, a game that develops it's own audience and doesn't diminish their top-gun (Smite).

It may fail, ala Tribes: Ascend, and if it does I expect Hi Rez to let it go, lick their wounds for a bit, and try again. The PC Market is so fickle, no gaming company wants to leave all their eggs in one basket, even if that basket seems pretty damned solid.

Why in god's name would a company that is looking at a massive success story like SMITE, dump it in lieu of an untested game in a genre that is getting thick with competitors?

C'mon, use your heads before you spout your vitriol.

Looks generic just like the rest. The FPS genre has fallen off.

More ignorance. Told by people who clearly haven't been following the game or the company very closely.

SMITE's patches are always up and down. They were light just before they released the massive season 2 update as well. HiRez is a company that's trying to grow, and this is how you accomplish that. You manage what resources you have, and try to diversify after you have some fairly stable income (SMITE i.e.).

If you look at the history of SMITE gods, you'll realize that there is a lot of fluctuation with their patches / updates. Some are very small, others are quite big. Their gods as well tend to fluctuate between OP / UP and you see this ESPECIALLY with warriors (as they have repeatedly talked about how warriors are the hardest class to balance for them). Yes, Ravana is weak, the new god they are releasing shortly (Khepri) is OP. Bellona was OP, but look at Osiris before that. He was OP as hell in the beta, then weak as hell on release, and now he's in a pretty good spot.

Simply put, not every patch can be a monster. Not every patch can be a janus or a season 2 change.

Honestly as much as I love hirez he is 100% correct. They do this with every single game release. Ever since their first game Global Agenda. I played that game religiously had hundreds of hours into it and saw slowly as they did smaller and smaller patches to focus on Tribes. Then Tribes came out and absolutely no patches for GA came ever again, they just left the servers on to die. Then Tribes got patched every week for a couple months until the SMITE alpha came out. Then all of a sudden Tribes patches were cash shop changes and nothing more. Then all of a sudden what happened to Tribes as well? No more patches. All of their team was focused on SMITE. Now with the launch of a new game we will see the same exact thing happen again. Their dev team is really small, and I haven't seen them add many people in the past couple of years, and they tend to have devs do random things like stream the games, like Bart and Erez. I'm hoping this is the one time that it is different. I really am, but based on the past facts I'm almost positive unless SMITE continues to bring in TONS of money while they patch small things in here and there, I doubt they will continue to support it in droves like they have been.
