Certainly not GW2.  All gimmick no flow.  My favorite was Warhammer Online but its sadly....offline.

Global Agenda has a really good engineer class.

I have not played it in a few years, but it was more of a lobby shooter, dungeon crawler with some open world elements thrown in... but that seems to be what most MMOs are now though.

Seems like more has been added to the game since I left.  I'm going to have to check it out again.

Without putting too much thought into it, I had a lot of fun with Firefall's engineer class.

I had a lot of fun placing my "mini" turrets, and one large one. Then setting another device down which did something I cant recall lol. I think it was some sort of emp thing. You'd have to watch them all and repair and replace as the battle went on (typically when I was harvesting). You could also create spawn points for ammo and what not I believe too. But I only concentrated on pure damage with my turrets so I didn't delve into all the other stuff available.

Hellgate London/Global had my favorite engineer class. You could pimp out your main bot with weapons and sticking wirt's prosthetic leg on it was funny as hell.

Haven't really enjoyed any MMORPG engineer type classes.  They're nearly always my most-played class in shooters where they're available (PS2, PS1, TF2, BF4, etc) but in MMORPGs I haven't ever found one that played particularly well compared with the other classes.

From what my buddy was telling Final Fantasy Realm Reborn sounds fun.   Basically you have your ammo clip as a mana source, with the ability to load an individual round to offset use.   But the clincher is controling your cool downs around a skill that "records" damage you did in a period of time, then when it ends you deal 25% of the damage you did in that period of time(for free, but with the cost of holding off on useing other skills for when this one comes off cool down).    Basically if you want to you could play a simple DPS class, or if you really wanted to get into it everything you do is balancing your risk vs. reward of those two mechanics(especially in longer fights).

Practice doesn't make perfect, practice makes permanent.

I would also 2nd the engineer class from Hellgate. The engineer class from WAR was also pretty good. It's not an mmo, but the engineer class from the ARPG series Van Helsing was really fantastic.

WTH?!!? That wasn't an engineer. That was an archer. Did you just see a dwarf in a video and just assume that because he is a dwarf, he must be an engineer? That's racist.

I'll 3rd for Hellgate.  Other things caused me to move away from that game but the engineer class was the best implementation I have played to date.  Global Agenda would be a pretty good 2nd with Planetside 2 being 3rd for me.

I've only played an engineer in Warhammer Online (it was my favorite class in that game) and GW2 (still pretty fun). I haven't tried out the class (suit?) in Firefall, yet, but I might give it a go.

In FFXIV, it's called a Machinist, right?

Sadly, it seems like the games with the most popular engineer classes are no longer online (Warhammer/Hellgate).

I have max leveled an Engi in every game that offers the class.. And Warhammer by far was more fun and far superioir in every way than any other , and was really the only one that felt like an Engi,...

In lineage 2, dwarfs were the only class that were crafters. They also had special spoil skills to get them more mats. They also were the only class that could build the cannons and golems to take down castle walls in sieges. If you think it's racist only dwarves could do this, blame the asians .

I just love the irony of how I jokingly point out how you were being racist towards dwarves, only for you to then turn around and make a racist comment against Asians. I'm not offended, just really amused.

That said despite the unique limitations on crafting in L2, crafting =/= engineer. Certainly not as a class or gameplay style anyway.

Hey they brought Hellgate back when ? Oh Wow the engineer was nice there I remember vaguely liking it when I played in 2007 was it when it launched then.

This thread absolutely wreaks of classism and racism.

Anarchy Online. Your class actually helps you craft stuff.

The racist comment was a counter joke to your racist joke. I hope you didn't take it seriously :)

If you don't like it, blame white people.

LoL. Well played sir. I'll get right on blaming white people.

Coming from an Army Combat Engineer background, I like Rift's Saboteur class from the explosives standpoint. The saboteur has explosives you can throw on enemies and then detonate them from a distance. I really enjoy it. GW's Engineer got to be boring to me for some reason that I can't explain. But, it wasn't bad at all.
