Linux needs to support games better, until then....windows it is.
Without DirectX onLinux our only hope is AMD´s Mantle, assuming OpenGL is the reason why most devs dont make their games for Linux (aside from the obvious open source environment they all fear.)
OpenGL was years behind DirectX for about a decade, before finally roughly catching up in 2010. The API is still rather bloated with a lot of cruft, though, which makes it harder to tell what matters and what doesn't, and thus harder to learn it. Once you learn it, it works fine, though.
Vulkan will probably be a lot cleaner, as it won't have the 23 years worth of accumulated junk. I'm not sure if Mantle is even available for Linux; AMD's Mantle specification mentions Windows a whole bunch of times, but never Linux. Regardless, if the goal is broader compatibility, a proprietary API is dead on arrival. The proper hope there should be on Vulkan, which is largely based on Mantle.
They really have the update options hidden cant even get to it from control panel. I had to search it with the new search then go to advanced so on to get that crap turned off.

That's one of those things that's easy when you know how. For 90% of people however that do not know how it's a bigger problem. Sometimes on boards like this we forget that we are in the minority, and even the people here who admit to not being tech savvy are more so than those who never go to forums, the granny who just uses her laptop to buy stuff from Amazon or the teenager who just clicks play on Steam have no idea that personal data is being sent to Microsoft or that their PC is being used to deliver updates to other users they don't know.

You just have to get used to some new things,
There is now another "control panel" like place that should be the first place you look. It's called "settings" and you see it when you left click the windows icon on the bottom left of your task bar - it's the new gear icon there.
Click on that and you'll see "Update and Security" as one of the options. That opens up Update and a few other tools.

The biggest issues with Linux for games is the fact that to use Xbox you HAVE to develop under Microsoft software because it requires DX and the license states that. This means a developer would have to write code under two OS which is doubling the work. Xbox sales make up a large portion of the industry so one would lose a chunk of the market.
The other issues are nothing is robust enough under Linux right now. Most of the graphic engines are subpar to DX. Microsoft can pour a lot of money into development where as for Linux you have to rely on the guy next door that wants to make a better mouse trap.
I know i will have to upgrade sometime in the future.
Was stuck with windows XP until my games needed a newer Dirext.
Stayed away from windows 8.
Ordered a ssd and after peeps saying ah ah 8.1 you can make it look like windows 7 i tried it.
Allmost trew up over my (non touch screen 4k) after i seen what windows 8.1 is.
My good i did not get a 4k to make it loook like a damn android tablet .
A Razer windows is constandly popping up saying in need to install it everytime i start op.
(do have razer keyboard and mouse but i dont give a rats ass about software)
Installed corsair link and damn right it works in 8.1 peeps who say it dont need to buy an xbox or so.
Anyways uninstalled corsair link. and now everytime my computer starts up corsair link loads.
!?!?! WTF i look in programs, nowhere to be found (yeah i uninstalled it)
Yet it seems to startup everytime with windows.
i tought ah free upgrade to windows 10 that must be better 8 is like vista and 10 will be like XP :P
Guess not
Look at the top of that razer window and you should see a number in a small green circle. These are things that need you to take action on ( decide if u want them or not ). After you have dealt with those the window will stop popping up.
Folks, Linux outpaces Windows in technical fields. The majority of websites you visit (because of LAMP) and Supercomputers run some flavor of Linux. It's not even close when it comes to the strongest computers in the world.
If the masses are told to use Windows they do. It's not a bad thing because it produces crossover when companies also use Windows for their front end people because what they learn at home they bring back to work. But there are plenty of companies who have a front end of Windows along with some back-end of Linux.
The thing is though, all this auto babysitter stuff is not teaching people about their computers. It's telling them father knows best because look at this thread. It's xenophobic reaction just to talking about how to adjust settings some even saying nothing is safe(r) so just give up. People have to stop fearing Linux to ever use it IMO. I'm still trying to teach one of my family members the difference between yahoo search and the browser bar, they treat them the same right in front of me no matter how many times I've tried explaining - one is a program showing where you are now and one is a web page. And yes, they still double-click on the internet. That event is rarely hooked to anything. Maybe some people are just never going to be "with it" and they will need Windows for life. Anytime I see someone bash Linux I can't help but think of how many times they encounter it and just don't know it.
Get ALL games working at least as good on Windows, and we can talk linux, until then you won't see your precious linux go over 2% market share in home pc enviroment for another 50 years, the same way it hasn't increased over 2% for the last 24 years.

It may change in few years more, the % may end up going higher if value plays there cards right with steam OS, as right now with out that new api thats coming out may not go any higher.

The problem there is getting games working on all those distributions. Linux has so many variant and little 'tweaks' that make is hard to work with. Example here was getting Bigworlds server functional on SUSE. Not going to happen unless you recompile it for SUSE and no source so had to use CentOS.
Now take a game like EQ and get wine running it takes a considerable amount of tweaking on Slackware but not difficult on Redhat.
Linux needs to standardize or it will never gain in home users.
Its pretty damned shady that they do this and that its on by default with no notice of it at all, I didn't even know about it till I seen this thread. Thanks for the heads up I let my friends know as well about it. Also the pastebin is incorrect on the telemetry, you can disable it in any windows 10, it involves a registry edit, and disabling 2 services related to it.
Also the tweaking program on that site is decent too, I hate the shortcut icons and such, and it has that to remove them, change them, or even set a custom icon for them. It has other features too.

It's not an end of the world issue like some people are making it sound. I haven't noticed any issues, but I don't like sharing my resources without actively initiating it, so I turned it off. Apocalypse averted.
