About 4 months ago, Carbine Studios announced that WildStar would be going Free to Play. Since then, we’ve learned a lot about what the transition would look like, including a sneak peek at E3, and a deep dive into character stat refactoring. But the studio was also eager to get fan feedback, promising a beta period for new and existing players to give feedback on this reloaded version of WildStar.

Yay for Wildstar! It has been really obvious in game for ages now that the player base is rising, the number of people starting to raid with us endgame is almost at the point we need secondary raid groups :DD - And we are the lowest pop casual raid guild on server haha

I play only sub games (or at least when sub is option). Matter of quality which does not mean sub = quality. I loved WS but the lost me with all that lag and other problems. Could be great addition to selection among great MMOs. And now F2P (I'm otherwise deeply disgusted) will for sure not make me return.

I think that the subscription is a tricky one. The larger market has been fairly clear - unless you have a large IP (WoW, FFXIV), launching with a subscription just doesn't work any more. SWTOR, TSW, ESO - they've all trained us to wait until a game goes free-to-play before trying it out.

When I talked to Scott Hartsman (Trion CEO) about business models, he told me that he used to have a religious dogma about them, but not any more. Mandatory subscriptions are a dying breed, and optional ones (like RIFT's, ESO's, SWTOR's and now WildStar's) are likely to be much more common.

I tried the game as a sub and liked a fair bit about it but some things annoyed me a bit but I'll 100% give it another look, firstly as a freep then if I'm happy, a subby. PS. Whats happened to this section? Its super skinny like its designed for mobiles and my sig doesnt show anymore :(
