Do graphics ever stop you from going back to an old MMO?

I was very excited to learn about EverQuest 2's Time-Locked servers. It's been years and I couldn't wait to re-live the Isle of Refuge. However, after about 20 minutes, I just couldn't get into it due to how old it looks. I'm usually about the gameplay, but man...   I just couldn't get around it.

Yes, old looking graphics turn me off.

I tried re-living some of the glory days in Asheron's Call, but after 30 mins I just couldn't take it.. A trip back into Anarchy Online fared a bit better, lasting 2 months before I once again had to stop.. I suppose I have been spoiled over the years by better and better graphics..

Note: I, on the other hand, had no trouble with Everquest 2's graphics (at launch or even now).. Its still a good little experience..

Not at all. Still play MUD which don't even have graphics and are text based. It's all about the game play.

Yes.  Once the graphics have become outdated for me, I have difficulty with the immersion.

The graphics for EQ2 are the reason I could never get into it, even when they were top of the line.  They're just SO UGLY along with the art style and animations.  Also, the character models are way too small, kinda of like how WildStar character models seem to be too small.

Absolutely, I understand Gameplay always trumps graphics, but there is a breaking point to where I can't stomach graphics like Isometric view in an mmo or outdated polygon as in EQ.

Not really.  I was playing FF7 yesterday, and yeah it obviously looks old, but I always liked that style.  On the other hand Minecraft's graphics are newer but I never liked them and that pretty much prevented me from getting into the game.  Same with most modern pixel art - I don't like that style regardless of age.

I guess this might be true of anime for me though; pre-80s anime is just o_O to me.
I want to help design and develop a PvE-focused, solo-friendly, sandpark MMO which combines crafting, monster hunting, and story.  So PM me if you are starting one.

Yes nicer graphics can really help with my immersion in a game.

But I do find that character movement / animation is even more important.

There gets to a point yes but my standards are really low lol. Game play always come first but I would play EQ1 still if the UI didnt make my wife wana poke out her eyes.

No, it's usually the attempts at "modernization" of an old school game (resulting in an abandonment of what made it unique) and/or the lack of an updated and user-friendly UI that keep me from playing.

Dated graphics won't turn me away but the UI will in a heart beat.

No, graphics have never stopped me from going back to a game.

I started in WoW Vanilla, and still have no issue with the graphics.  It looks like WoW.

If I like the game and have fun, it really doesn't matter how it looks.

If I don't like the game and don't have fun, it doesn't matter how great the eye candy is.

I know it shouldn't and I feel guilty for it, but it does.  I don't mind if the graphics aren't the best, but there comes a point where the graphics are so dated and so poor, that it just turns me off.  There, I said it!   I am not an animal!

Naw. I went back to DAOC recently because I just couldn't get the same satisfaction from other MMO games.

The graphics are old, but I've seen worse, and to be honest if they tweaked the graphics and updated some aspects of the game it could probably become a contender again.

Though recently I stopped playing because of the radar and speedhacking in BGs and RVR and because trying to put together a template without a good gear database is a pita.

I've been spoiled by all these other games and their data mining, but man, putting a template together is fairly rewarding.

Same here with EQ2. Every time i went back, the graphics bothered me a little more. Until i never went back again because of them.

Dark Age Of Camelot is the only older game I had a problem with, and I think it has more to do with the UI.

I don't mind older graphics as long as the game can support different armor styles. If I was wearing a "ratty headband" and I put on a "flaming helm of death's wrath", I don't want to look the exact same as I did before.

Yes sadly I recently learned im more of a graphics whore then I thought but games like project gorgon however I can handle ok.

This, and the controls too. For some reason i just can't get enough of WASD and right click stuff, too much WoW i guess.
