Need to know more before I buy

I was seriously looking into this game, and even though I've gotten into WOW, I'm still curious about getting it. My first question is, is it worth it? I want to know if it is as good as it seems. Is it fun? Easy to get into? Any crafting? How big is the community? Are people easy to get along with? Is the character creation pretty diverse? Things that gamers would tell you and not adverts.

Thanks for any help.

Firstly yes it is worth it, i wasnt sure when i first bouf=ght the game but yes it is worth it. The screenshots if anything dont do the game justice and so dont always trust them. The game is fun as long as u understand what u r doing it is always frustrating when the community dont answer your noobie questions but geberally in this game, well on mi server anyway, people are nice and are happy to help. The pvp element in the game is huge, everywhere barring the starting villages is pvp and so u always get the idiots who go round piking on noobs and stealing their stuff  if they drop it. The community is fairly large in the main towns and so u go there for your groupings and raids, these are when loads of peeps take on a massive boss and his fighters for good drops and exp, in the wild there are generally people to be seen running around etc. and you are luky to find anywere completely deserted. The caracters are human, light and dark elf, dwarf and orc. You choose to begin with from mystic/magic user and warrior. Then at lvl 20 u get yoru fist class change, this is an option of two more, for example my orc fighter could have been a raider or a monk each with its pros and cons, then at lvl 40 you can become anpther class again a choice of 2 i think, having not lvled to there yet. All crafting is done by dwarven characters and this suks in mi mind unless ur in a clan with a dwarf willing to help you make wat u need. Hope i helped and any further questions just ask :)

Personally I thought the game was close to garbage when I quit. The hardcore grind and graphics were the bright points for me. As the above poster said, the screenshots dont do this game justice....great graphics. You dont want it easy to level and want to feel a sense of accomplishment..........this kind of leveling will give you that.

I was glad to see they changed the pvp in starter zones......purely a money factor in that move though. As when I played  there was massive gankage going on and I can only imagine how many new people quit after getting ganked repeatedly the first day of logging in. Another problem was the farming...chinese or other. I would sense this is not as much of a problem today since the game has been out a while. But back in the begining it was highly annoying enough to quit the game to say the least.

Not sure how pvp is now....was pretty much a joke when i played. Only people that went red were stupid people and alternate characters made for the sole purpose of pk'n. Castle seiges on the other hand are some of the most fun Ive ever had.

Im sure alot of the things that made this game a very bad experience have been cleared up. Even if they hadnt however...you will get your money's worth.

Well, since most of your questions went unanswered, I'll try to field some of your questions.  The game can be fun, but you have to keep in mind that the grind is VERY bad.  You will spend most of your time grinding the same mobs over and over again.  The other thing that makes the game difficult is money.  It takes a long time to get enough money for the equipment you need, and by the time you have it, you're already needing better equipment.  It's a real problem in this game.  The community is a fairly good size.  There are still a lot of people who play this game, so you don't really have to worry about the game being dead.  However, most of the people are going to be higher level, so you might not see a many people when you're first starting out.

You also asked about character creation, and here is another place where I feel the game falls short.  There aren't a lot of choices for looks compared to other games like EQ2, or even WoW.  There are only 5 races in the game to choose from.  But, the class system does make up for this a little.  There are a lot of classes in a branch-type system that you will eventually be able to choose from.  One thing that makes this difficult, however, is that there are often lengthy and very difficult quests that need to be done in order to advance.  And those quests are not optional.

So, if you're looking for something similar to WoW, Lineage 2 is on the opposite spectrum.  There are virtually no quests compared to WoW.  The PvP system is completely different, being open PvP anyone can attack you any time they like.  And there is a problem with grieferes due to this system.  The crafting in the game is very weak, and only dwarves can craft.  And the thing you will kill yourself over is the rediculous grind it takes to level and farm for money.  You could spend a year trying to reach max level.  I know my views are rather negative, but I'm just trying to give you my honest perspective.  I hope this helps.

i thank you for your posts, and I'm pretty sure I'm not going to be getting this now, as my attentions have now turned toward Dark Age of Camelot for the time being, a friend of mine showed it to me, so I think I'm going in that direction.

A lot of the comments for the game seemed negative, or not enough seemed positive, well, all I can tell is that I probably shouldn't get this now.

    Thanks again for the help.

I dunno if you will come back to check this again, but let me make one comment.

Yes, lots of the comments seem negative. I want you to know that many people have tried cheating in this game, and many have been banned...so it creates people that are pissed and want to smash this game to bits.

In all reality this is the BEST MMO I have ever played. That is why I am still playing it.

Yes the grind is long...but the game isn't 100% focused on grind. Most people just play this game to get a higher number (levels) and better gear. If that is all you play this game for, it will seem terrible because this is a slow process.

The game is more based off of building clans or joining one. Then going on large clan hunts, HUGE PVP, taking castles (PvP that actually means something) and is even better if you get Team Speak or somesort of communication device.

The game has lots of content in the sense of places to go, people, and whatnot...but really there isn't really any engaging quests...but you are supposed to be engaged by other players...not NPCs...that is how the game was designed. Some ppl like this, and some don't but IMO an MMO's greatest focus should be on player interaction and not NPC interaction...I play other games if I want no player interaction.

There is farmers and whatnot, but you said you played WoW and you know how bad it is there. You will actually get PMed and whatnot telling you where to get cheap gold...you will NEVER get this in L2...unless it is some guy fooling around with ya...but no one has ever done this to me.

There seems to be a lot of farmers and bots, but there is no more than there is in other MMOs. The thing about L2 is there is NO instanced world! C4 they added a tiny thing called the dimensional rift that one party goes into...but that is really the only instanced thing, but you pay for it with fragment things...so you see ALL the farmers because they just can't run instances over and over and over!

I would say talk to your friend that wants you to play DAoC and you guys both start lineage 2 and play togeather! That will be really fun...because many starter towns are a bit empty...and having a RL friend will make this game really fun! But a RL friend isn't necessary.

    worth it ?

    - no, unless you love to grind 12 hours / day for a year+

    fun ?

    - if you already grinded your ass to the point where you're past cannon fodder (meaning currently: you're ranged class, preferably necro, and past 65 at the very least), then you may have some fun in occasional pvp; unless of course you love pointless pve grind - then you will love L2

    easy ?

    - game is as easy as it's possible - just artificially long

    community ?

    - acutally, quite big

people easy to get along with ?

    - that depends on whom you meet :)

    diverese char creation ?

    - it's one of the worst possible, both visual wise and stat wise

I have to argue about character customization a bit. Thinking about games that offer heavy character customization, what do you REALLY look at when you see another player's avatar? That's right, pretty much only the armor and maybe the hairstyle. Nobody pays attention to the facial detail, how big your ears are, how set your chin is. So people who argue about character creation being a big thing is really only looking to make their character look better for themselves rather than for other people to look at.

Yes, there's several different armours. But let's be honest here...Most of the armours aren't even used because of the wacky stats. So in the end, you see everyone from a certain class/race wear the exact same thing. In the best case, you have a choice between 2 armours for each grade for your class if you want to stay competitive. Same goes for weapons.

Kind of missed the point of this game entirely, and depends on why you play MMO's.

You will like L2 if you like pvp, like a sense of accomplishment, like to work within a tight guild, can stomach some hard penalties for death.    So, L2 has plenty of fanatics that have 6 hour days in since beta, and are very well known on their server (all those hours and pvp).

You won't like L2 if you prefer pve, if you want to be done with a game in 6 months, you strongly prefer solo play, need lots of variety and quick reward in your gameplay, and can be satisfied with a fairly annoymous server.  That is, WoW.

If you think WoW is the shitz, L2 is probably not for you.    And most L2 players can't stand the CB aspects of WoW.   Up to you.

No that's precisely the other way.

If you like pvp, dislike pve - your life will be this way in L2:

    1) RMT, paying for PL, rerolling (or subclassing) to the best class of the current chronicle - to be able to stay competetive w/o wasting time for mindless grind that NC put into this game

    or

    2) if you have no life, you may set your teeth and grind mindlessy for many months and many hours daily (and better choose the right class), so at some far, far point in the future you will become somewhat competetive. Just don't kid yourself that people from 1) won't run over you in pvp like a train over a car.

If you like pve (the more repetitive and mindless - the better) and treat pvp as a "spice up" only - you will enjoy L2.
