So I used to follow TERA for a while before release but for some reason I completely forgot about it.

I've been playing ESO and I really like it, except its almost a completely solo game.

Are people still playing TERA?  Does it have a healthy population?  What is grouping like?

Also, I may be confusing TERA with something else, but wasn't there an MMO that let you combine skills from the different classes to create like over a hundred different classes or something? Was that TERA or am I thinking of something else?

I played around release and also popped in a year ago. The population is still somewhat decent - wouldn't call it a safe time investment though (will likely decline). Then again, what game is lately.

The game has nice action combat - you have to play reactively, learn the animations of the creatures you fight and plan your movements accordingly.

To me, it extremely depended on which class I played. I tried the casting classes, which meant I wasn't in the heat of the battle and the combat was very unrewarding. When I then picked up a Warrior (the most mobile of all the melee classes), I absolutely loved it.

The story isn't great, the economy might be all messed up by now, but if you want something with hands on combat, give it a go. I loved the time I spent there and most of it I played on my own with my friend.

I am having not much luck playing Phantasy Star Online 2 due to some weird lag caused by my ISP I think so I have to give it up much to me chagrin.

I am downloading Tera now to play alongside Skyforge and I was wondering if creating a character on the new server Highwatch was a good idea. I do have a character very low level though may be 15 on one of the older servers which I cannot recall now but my son has a max level toon there too and might have the cash I need to play later or some items I could get to my alt. I am also a founder as I purchased this game when it first launched and subbed.

So would it be in my interest to stay on the old server  where the community I hear is quite a tough nut to crack and difficult to find dungeon groups as the requirements seem quite steep or move to the new server created for steam.

I am going to roll either a castanic or high elf priest .

I've played TERA a couple of years ago and then recently when i leveled the new class(gunner). There are reasons that, both times, this game didn't hold me for long.

I'll start with the positives: If you like engaging action-like combat and colorful graphics then give it a go. Plus it has one the nicest race/class varieties out there.

Now to the negative ones: 100% of game's content is a total grindfest, fanservice to death( boooooooobs), complete lack of immersion(sports car mounts ffs), worst community i've encountered in a MMO to this day(...........), loli race obsessed devs and community, gender(only female) locked classes, gender(only female)  costumes.

So for me the negatives far aoutreached the positives so after 2 tries i left and never looking back. That's my general simpified review of the game.

Gender locked costumes really isn't a problem, the problem is the diversity of them. It is fine if your female character want to dress like a female extra in "Black sails" but there should also be some more sensible options, you know, armor that actually protects you instead of looking like lingerie. Some more choices on how your avatar works.

As I see it is TERA true weakness however the terrible quests, you can avoid some but not all and they are the worst quests I seen in any MMO for the 19 years I been playing. They should have skipped them altogether and just placed some bounties or something like Lineage did.

TERA do have relatively many players though, partly because it isn't a bad game even with all it's weaknesses and partly because it have a really good F2P system unlike many "freemium games".

I picked the new server and castanic ...I know ,I know her ass in the air is a bit unnerving at first but I got used to it and once she changed dresses it is not so noticeable. Heavens they really reduced the experience now to get off the Isle. I recall being stuck on that island for a few days when I first played with a lot more quests. In fact the reason I quit was from quest fatigue . Now I am already off after 90 minutes of play. Definite improvement and enjoying the game now.

It's also possible over the past few years after playing more action orientated games I have become a little better at this type of combat plus my trusty G600 Logitech mouse is fantastic at this type of combat.

This and Skyforge are my two new obsessions.

@kitarad I'm thinking about getting tera again as well.  I didn't get much past the starter area when I played it at launch.  I just kept getting sucked back into WoW.  How does the F2P work for tera?  Is it pay to win or is it like cosmetic stuff only?

And speaking to the cosmetic stuff, are the female characters still pretty much half naked the entire time?  I remember it being pretty ridiculous back then.  Also I read that they added a new class that carries a big ass gun, is that the gender locked class or is that something else?

You have the standard rep/xp boosters of course, and buttloads of cosmetic items.

There are also alkahests on sale - items you need for enchanting - but it's only a shortcut, as they are also available ingame.

Bank slots are cash shop only, but those are actually vouchers which can be sold on the ingame auction house. Actually, everything in the cash shop (everything) can be sold on that, so if you're good with gold you can pick up everything there.

There is nothing P2W about Tera's cash shop whatsoever, it's all either convenience or cosmetic - You never even need to open it and still have a full game experience.

The only limits are things like the amount of times you can enter certain dungeons per hour or per day and a few other caps, which can be lifted or doubled with a subscription, but even that is convenience rather than anything else.

But, sadly, female characters are nearly naked almost all the time. There are very few armors or outfits which cover the entire body (which depends on race as well). Certain classes are indeed gender (and race) locked, like the Reaper (Elin) and Gunner (High Elf/Castanic).

    Playing: WF
Played: WoW, GW2, L2, WAR, AoC, DnL (2005), GW, LotRO, EQ2, TOR, CoH (RIP), STO, TSW, TERA, EVE, ESO, BDO
Tried: EQ, UO, AO, EnB, TCoS, Fury, Ryzom, EU, DDO, TR, RF, CO, Aion, VG, DN, Vindictus, AA

The game you are thinking of with up to 120 classes was Archage, Great game but the release and how everything got messed up killed the NA lunch. Had huge potential.

    Playing: Everthing
    Played: DAoC,AC2,EvE,SWG,WAR,MXO,CoX,EQ2,L2,LOTRO,SB,UO,WoW.
I have played every MMO that has ever come out.
