I don't know how I really feel about this. It all sounds logical but it would take out some of the gamble from looting. I think I opened up about 200 chests before finally getting that fossilized insect.
Then again, I usually end up pretty unlucky while my guidies loot pre-cursors I never got anything worth more than 15 gold ever.
I think I really have to try something like this to be sure if it is a good idea or not.
Isn't this kind of like what they're already doing with the new zone rewards system they talked about? I don't remember all the details since I'm waiting on more info on the expansion before I start playing again, but I'm pretty sure they're adding this in addition to standard loot.
This is indeed exactly how the new zone rewards work. It is a sPvP like reward track that advances depending on what you do (events, JPs, mini dungeon). The rewards are generally t6 mats and they are 100% non RNG.
Trust me we don't need yet another nostaligia piece interfering with an already convoluded and broken loot system (Lucky Accounts / DR anyone? Remember how many games that destroyed in mmo history? yeah) so my suggestion would be that they revise their loot system to be more like ESO, hirelings, theft and pickpocketing that way everyone has a chance. With the system that's been written about here not only would most people spend most of their time stunned or dead in boss fights because of their terrible mechanics but they might not even make it to boss fights whose only strategy that these amateur designers could come up with was to slap some more hitpoints on them but they keep dying too fast anyway to make a difference. That's the reality of this game right now and I don't see it changing anytime in the future. Not with who's in charge over there.

It is pretty clear that you have not played the game in a while.
600-700 times killing Tequatl until i got my first hoard...thats not rasing the bar thats 2 steps backwards. Even worse with the Gwynefyrdd mini.
Same on everythig else. Way too much randomness, too much junk. Pretty no rewards from great challenges but from repeating stuff over and over again. While standard loot for every player is nice GW2 realy showed me how good the old systems are especially if you are running dungeons/raids with friends.
Not sure about loot and the mastery system. for me it looks more like gating than something great but PvP rewards tracks are nice to have.
Favorite way to do loot is pile it all up, then distribute it at the end of the instance. Walking from corpse to corpse clicking on shinies is boring and ghoulish.
"Maybe instead of receiving loot directly from the mobs themselves, we could get mail at regular intervals saying “Good job!” and handing us our loot." This could be from councils of cities etc, a payment of bounty for ridding pests from the land etc!

There we agree, running a dungeon and constantly have to wait for someone to salvage stuff because their bags are ful is a huge bother. But I would still like to get the rare and exoctic drops from chests when I open them, it is more exciting. Anything below that is just vendortrash and salavage bits anyways and are best to get when done or when leaving the instance.
