Knowing that crap like this can happen is why I won't ever touch Unity. Screw it and the bottom feeders that use it, I'll stick to MonoGame.
EDIT: No more broken links.
That's a horrible representation of unity... Games like Endless Space/Legend, Cities: Skylines, Pillars OF Eternity, Wasteland 2, etc.. as well as quite a few upcoming games, like Sword Coast Legends... show the engine can be used to great effect. In the right hands. I'm sure Brian Fargo and the many other names behind those games listed are pure Bottom-feeders compared to your talents though, that sounds believable...

Unity isn't a bad engine... It's just extremely accessible and easy to use. Any random Joe can make a game with it for 75 bucks a month. That being said, any random Joe can try as they might to rip you off as well.
Do you expect any Indie game to be good and worth your time? No. They pull people off the street that have no programming skills and now they are a developer. This is what Indie base companies do and the more you support them and end American Dollars to these kickstarts the more you screw yourself.
Wow. There's so much ignorance in this post my brain is actually melting.

But as Distopia already mentioned. I don't see how this is the engine's fault. It's the people who abuse the ease of access it offers and the uninformed public that buys into those scams who are at fault.

Recently there has been an upsurge of games made by "indie" devs, in part due to easy access of tools that generally only bigger companies could afford in the past and wide distribution platforms like Steam. The upside of this is a plethora of new ideas and games, but it has not been all roses.
We now have to put up with titles seemingly in perpetual early access, complete lack of professionalism, with devs blatantly lying and even telling gamers to "fuck off" on their websites, paying all sorts of fees, crowdfunding, crowdforging, donations, etc for the promise of a game some time in the future etc.
However, yesterday I saw a scam, or at least attempted scam, that was so audacious it is almost funny. I give you Pixel Z:
Might be old news to some, but it blew my mind so had to share.
Programming myself and using Unity for it as well, but I WILL NEVER make scams like this. Right now I'm busy on 3(!) projects and all are original which have 95% of my own created content (the remaining 5% are mostly placeholders). And yes, I do use the Unity Asset store, but not for graphics and sound, but for the awesome tools that are in there (2D toolkit, debug helpers, renderers and such).

I suppose you and @Distopia are right. Steam Greenlight takes most of the blame for this by giving these people a platform in which to attempt their scams. Still, an engine that makes it so easy to cobble something like this together has to share some of the blame. Maybe that's not fair to Unity and the good developers who use it, but it is what it is. There's something wrong when a person can just buy (or pirate) what is almost a fully functioning game from an asset store, stick a different name on it, and legally resell it. UnitZ isn't even the only example of this.
I'd say lowest app quality is on mobile phones.
On computer - usually bad games, clones and scam, and often even good games dont get any good marketing then decay without players.
Hmmm......maybe I should claim to be an indie studio, post an old video of Star Wars Galaxies, and sell "partner" lifetime subscriptions for community support payable in bitcoin only...……..
Then I could relax on my own private beach in the Bahamas, and indulge in margaretas to generate gameplay ideas...…..
