Trading

I have heard there have been lots of changes in BD, just wondering if the trade system still functions like this description:

"There’s a special NPC located in every large city, as well as, big Trade Note named “Trade Administrator”; It is via this specific NPC that a Player can buy materials and goods produced in this area.  Now that you’ve filled your bags with valuable goods you will need to travel around the world, or the next city and see if your goods can satisfy local needs. Being based on the free market rule of supply & demand, the selling price of a specific product is based on how much it is desired or needed by the local residents; in case your goods aren’t important to the locals it might happen that you will sell your items at a loss rather than profit. For example, if you have bought milk, and try to sell it  to another farm which already has cows, you will not be able to sell it in higher price since the NPC’s will not be interested for something they can already produce themselves." Yea the Trade system is still in the game, although hardly anyone does it any more. Travelling for 20 minutes with an 8-slot carriage, where anyone can come and gank you, just to make 5-10k silver, just doesn't seem to be worth it.

Yeah, but that system sounds awesome, reminds me of Uncharted Waters Online. And you get a carriage to haul goods around with as well? Do you craft that or buy it? Can you upgrade the carriage?

It hass been 1 month (probably 2) since I last read news about BDO, but AFAIK,  when you gank someone doing a trading route, you gain a shit ton of karma (which is extremely difficult  to get rid of it and return to positive karma) and you can NOT loot his tradepacks to sell them yourself.

So there is no point in ganking someone doing a traderoute besides getting a shit ton of Karma just "for fun".

Yes you can make that player really angry and really mad... but the karma systems is quite punishing to prevent free ganks. Unless it´s someone you really hate, there is no point in killing random ppl doing trade runs.

I used to play a F2P asian game (silk road online, It was really fun) focused on trading routes,  and in that game you were able to pick the tradepacks from other players if you ganked them while trading...  it was fun as hell and the risk VS reward was well balanced.

    EDIT:

A feature that really surprised me is "illegal trade runs". Only at night time, some dark/stealthy NPC traders dressing dark cloacks and hoods, appear in some points of the citys, and you can purchase illegal packs that generate mmuch more money than the standard trade runs, BUT... you can get ganked with no karma penalty for the player that killed you... So it's up to you to take the risk :)

I too think its amazing and original.

Here a reddit post about it (not much information tho): https://www.reddit.com/r/blackdesertonline/comments/2r6x9q/illegal_trading/

There is little info/videos about this. I saw it while watching a live streaming in twitch.

It just seems that the sandbox elements in this game are completely tacked on, not required at all, and single player oriented. Is that incorrect? How is the best gear acquired in BD?
Now Playing: Bless / Summoners War
Looking forward to: Crowfall / Lost Ark / Black Desert Mobile

To answer your question simply, BDO is much like Archeage in terms of PvP being the endgame focus. Here is a more complex answer:

"Endgame" - just like every other MMORPG I've ever played - all revolves around getting the best gear (through various methods) and PvPing. Unlike other MMO's however, BDO doesn't have instanced dungeons and raids that you constantly farm. Instead, you have a multitude of options when deciding how to earn silver to upgrade your gear. Gear is all upgraded with blackstones which can be farmed or bought with silver.

The indisputable best gear in the game all drop from either bosses or "elite" mobs. Weapon and offhand drop from two open world bosses, the armor set drops drop from various bosses that are summoned with boss scrolls, and accessories drop from various mobs around the world. Open world bosses spawn frequently, however, if your RNG isn't strong it can take a while to actually get a weapon. A random boss scroll is acquired through a daily quest - there are also "harder" weekly boss scrolls, only one of which drops boss armor.

Now, there are various ways to make silver which can be put into upgrading - fishing, breeding horses, farming, whaling, trading, grinding etc. The people who complain about no endgame don't participate in other activities, all they do is grind endlessly thinking that it is the most effective way to make silver. However, if these people put the same amount of time into planning how to make silver effectively as they do complaining, they would already have +18 gear.
