Thanks for the comment. You mean CD Projekt Red? They have a cyberpunk RPG coming out but no MMO that they've announced.

My biggest gripe with this game was that they didn't use AD&D rules.

BG1 and BG2 are two of my all time favorite games so when I play a game that looks like them but has completely different rules, it throws me off quite a bit.  I cringe every single time I add a point of Might to a Mage so his spells will do more damage.  My left eye twitches every time I add a point of Intellect to my Barbarian to raise his Carnage AoE damage.  It's just unnatural.

Also, I don't like the weapons in the game.  The Arquebus, Estoc, Stiletto and Maces are clearly the best weapons in the game because they have a Damage Reduction bonus.  So if I want to be a longbow wielding ranger, then I won't be able to damage 75% of the creatures in the world.  If I want to give my Barbarian a giant two handed sword, then I'll have to live with knowing that the Estoc would raise his damage significantly.

There are several niggling things like this which serve as constant reminders that I'm not in the AD&D ruleset anymore, and call me old fashioned, but no sir, I don't like it.

To be honest, I've never found the DR to be super prohibitive... I don't think most stuff has enough of it to really matter other than heavily armored stuff and generally you are better using magic anyway. One thing you failed to account for is that everyone gets 2-4 weapon sets so it's not like they really designed it with sticking to one weapon.. it's why the weapon proficiency stuff comes in groups. You aren't really proficient with one weapon so much as one set of weapons.

I wish the AI was a little better - or that I knew if it was operating as intended or whether I have somehow set it incorrectly. My party doesn't like to auto-attack or stops auto-attacking when an enemy is down but because of the way the characters bunch on screen, I can't see that their attacks have stopped. The story too, while excellent, is horrifically written, the worst kind of fanfic, cliched and predictable. If a game is set in a medieval fantasy world, having characters speak like cowboys or gangsters utterly breaks the atmosphere and story for me.

Yeah make sure it is on Defensive (I think that is the setting - one defends themselves, one continues to attack other targets after theirs is dead). I had noticed this as well. . also make sure you hit save. I thought I had changed some and then went back and it was wrong. Either it was a bug or I didn't save it properly. I found myself just going back and telling everyone what to do anyway. It was more enjoyable and my mage didn't eat up all of his spells on small things.

Wa min God! Se æx on min heafod is!
